Dapper Stache - Moderator Application

Post by Dapper Stache » 01 Jan 2017, 19:40

Byond ID: Dapper Stache

Colonial Marines Character: Aria 'Weaver' Vivici

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Timezone: EST (UTC-05:00)

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 20+

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Not particularly.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? I don't believe so. However I frequently played Colonial Marines last year.

What other servers do you play on? Hippiestation, very rarely.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM? Hippiestation.

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? Not for a staff role, no.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)? Nope.

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)? Not particularly, however I am looking into it.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.

See if there is a clear and valid reason, if not contact them and ask. If he has one I'll let it slide. If not I'll give them a warning, add a note and move on. If he's known for doing this sort of thing before and it's negatively effected the marines I'll see what I can do for a temp ban.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.

Firstly depends on what caused the breach, whether or not it's marines or xenos intentionally breaching, if it's either of those I'd see if I can find the one responsible once I fix the issue, contact them and ask why, then start issuing punishment.
As for fixing the issue it depends on where the breach is. If it's in a non vital area of the ship I'd notify the marines via a mother announcement or any other way available to me for the engineering staff to fix. If it does happen to be in a vital area of the ship or it's being abused by xenos to drain O2 for marines I'd see what I can do to fix said breach.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.

I'd send a MOTHER announcement stating that there are approximately 2-5 unidentified lifeforms on the planet, and that Weyland-Yutani would be disappointed with their quick willingness to destroy their state of the art facility, and High Command would be disappointed with their cowardice.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.

First of all, are there hostile Iron Bears, xenos, mutineers, or another sufficient threat inside of logistics? If not I'd contact the marine and warn them.

5. A player is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.

Ignore it. If it persists ask them politely to stop, the joke was funny once, the second, third, or fourth time not so much. If it persists after that I'd issue a note about the incident.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.

Contact them and notify the marine that them name violates our rules, remind them to read the rules and that ignorance is not tolerated. I'd then see if there's an admin on, or someone with sufficient permissions to change their name while he lives. If so I'd ask them if he has something else they'd like it to be changed to, if not I'd leave it to the admins discretion. If there isn't an admin on I'd tell them to change it next round. If they do not comply I'd see what I can do about a light temporary ban. Either way I'd add a note about the issue.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

Continue to follow the above precedure. Ignorance is not an excuse, read the rules. Their name violates the rules and must be changed.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.

Contact the doctor and inform them that they are not allowed to carry weapons. If he has a valid reason, a la carrying it to researching, inform them to be more careful not to dilly dally next time. If he doesn't have a valid reason, I'd ask them to leave the weapon in the cafeteria on one of the tables, and add a note. If he doesn't comply, I'd see what I can do about light punishment, from getting MPs to arrest them to a light ban.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

Contact them and tell them that medics are not allowed to do surgery, allow them to finish his current surgery and proceed with punishment accordingly afterward. If he claims ignorance I'd inform them to read the rules before playing. If there are multiple notes of this sort of thing happening I'd throw them yet another note and proceed with a short ban.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

There are a number of fun things I can do in such a situation, the simplest is inform the marines there's only four aliens via a mother announcement, but the more interesting ones range from saying the nuke is going to go off, to fabricating a story about something important the marines left on the planet.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.

Sleep each offending marine and apply the following. Sleep the marine, inform them that EORG is not tolorated, and ignorance to the rules is not an excuse. Apply a light ban, and add a note.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.

Ignore it, and giggle at the poor sap who got slipped, unless it's in a high tension situation, such as a xeno or hostile ERT boarding. If it is I'd contact the marine and ask them to stop.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask them why, he said it was because the other marine had punched them.

This is a heavy situation. It depends on whether or not there was proper escalation in the fight, and I'd have to check with both parties to see if there was, what a marine claims initially isn't always what actually happened to the letter. If both parties are satisfied with the situation and RP escalation I wouldn't see a reason for intervention, as both parties enjoyed the fight and the RP escalation, the only punishment the offending marine would face is IC by the MPs. If there wasn't proper escalation I'd inform the offending marine that this is a heavy offense and that I'm going to have to issue punishment, regardless of notes. I'd let the amount of notes influence the length of the ban. From just an hour to longer.

Any additional information you'd like to add? Not really.

+1. Pretty much what Mord said. You'll need to change your forum account though.

Edit: Re-reading your answers, 8 is wrong. You do not allow them to finish the surgery. Otherwise, retaining the +1

I understand. Dapper Stache is an old name that's still my Ckey. I'm looking into a way to change my name on the forums, from what I see there isn't one in the profile settings, at least not for the user. If someone could change it for me that'd be fantastic, but otherwise I could make a new account if it comes down to it.
Edit: Fixed.

Another gentleman to join our ranks. +1

In all seriousness, I've had no problem with them ever OOCly and ICly.

Some answers were a tad wrong but with experience comes understanding and that's how a lot of people learn. Nothing major stood out so they've got my vote.

4. The researcher that made the grenades is responsible too so you should deal with him.
7. I would advise against banning doctors when they are needed, you could just ban them later when medbay isn't overran by injured because it takes a long time for a new one to arrive unless you get an admin to open an extra slot.
8. I would disagree with Slc on this one, atleast have him cauterize the incision or the marine is sure to die by the time he gets to medbay unless he gets pocket mediced.
10. Going through that every single time would result in you being only able to ban 1, max 2 players. Just slap on a 3 hour ban.

Also I haven't seen you too much personaly, how much time do you play a week?
And your punishments could also use more accurate explaining, not just 'light' or 'heavy' punishment.

I would go for a -1 for now.
If you ever wonder when did I really start hating incompetent people read Crab Spider's signature... I was that CMO.

Apologies about being vague, i define light punishment in a ban within single digit hours, IC repurcussions, removal from the round etc. all of them hold the same meaning for me as keeping the offending player out in order to make sure they know what they did is wrong.

I'm on very frequently, most of the time I play for 2 or more hours (usually more) when I get home, but as of late there's been holidays, and other issues, so that's been cut down a little, however I can easily come on for the time listed above or longer now.
