ZDashe - Moderator Application

Post by ZDashe » 01 Feb 2017, 01:57

Byond ID: ZDashe

Colonial Marines Character: Ray 'Zero' Robinson

Age: 27

Gender: M

Timezone: GMT+8

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 10-35 hrs. I'm online on most days.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Nope, I'm a virgin.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? Pre-Alpha

What other servers do you play on? None, only CM.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM? -

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? Nope.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? Nada.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)? No.

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)? Never used it before, but I'm willing to pick it up.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
I will observe and if it's an IC issue, let the MPs handle it unless players start ahelping. If players are being griefed or hurt without adhering to proper rules of escalation, I'll admin sleep the player, looc to tell surrounding players that I'm investigating and move along, then message him, while checking note history. Warn or ban accordingly and add a note. 1 hour ban for new players without note history, so they can read the rules, and increasing from there depending on severity and past notes. Admin heal any injured party if a griefer was involved.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
Attempt to find out why. If it was due to SM explosion as a result of incompetence, let the players deal with it. Otherwise, if it was intentional breaching without informing staff, even with a valid IC reason, remind that it's against the rules to do so. If SM was intentionally blown up by CE/MT near round start, apply a job ban. Fix the breach (I believe there's a verb for it?), add a note or ban if it's a repeat offender. If it was unintentional, fix the breach, then remind the player not to do it again, and to ahelp it next time it happens. Exception would be if it was done intentionally as a last ditch effort near the end of the round.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
Let the players attempt to resolve it themselves. If round is stagnating or nobody is in command, I will create a motivational MOTHER report to lift their spirits and deny the nuke codes, but won't reveal the exact number of aliens since we have periodic scans in place already. Besides, nuke codes are only left up to headmins.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
Find out intent. If players were injured as a result of grief, handle appropriately (see 1.). It's the responsibility of the researcher to inform marines or label grenades on its use before handing it out. Remind the researcher if necessary, and leave it as an IC issue if they were fighting aliens or leave it to the MPs accordingly. I have never seen napalm grenades used before, but I heard it's been patched to not affect atmos anymore so it shouldn't need drastic intervention unless used for the intention of griefing.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
Flag it as no response necessary. If he continues and spam ahelp over meaningless stuff, warn him, then mute him if excessive, then add a note for misusing Ahelps.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
PM the player nicely and remind him that we're a medium RP server with proper naming rules and to change it next time. Ask him for a new name and attempt to change his existing character's name for him (not sure if mods have this ability). If it's not a new player, tell him to change it, then add a note.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
Ignorance is not an excuse. Link the rules, tell them to read it, add a note.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
PM the doctor to drop the rifle and remind him about his duties. Doctors are not combat personnel, and only allowed pistols in an emergency, unless there's a direct threat to pick up a rifle, but does not justify wearing one. Add a note. Job ban if he ignores the warnings and is a persistent repeated offender as a combat doctor.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
PM him that medics are not trained to do surgery, and it's in the rules. Tell him to cauterize and close up the patient and evac him to a proper doctor. Add a note. Job ban for repeated offenders.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
If the remaining 4 aliens do not have any drones, queen or infected hosts, let the round play out for a Marine Minor after 20 minutes. Otherwise, create a Motivational MOTHER report to wipe out the remnants of the aliens, and also a Queen Mother report that the tall hosts are panicking and to take advantage of it. If it doesn't work, call for a vote for the escape pod sequence (This option is available when no staff are online, but I'm not sure if staff have access to this ability too). I would prefer not to intervene unless majority vote is called. This will pressure both sides to act on their own as Xenos will be informed that the fleshy hosts are trying to escape. If Marines retreat, Xenos will earn their Minor victory. Either way, the round will end after 20 minutes and not stagnate further. I believe this would be more fair to the Xeno players than to forcibly nuke them or make them suicide without their consent.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
Admin sleep him to avoid escalating the situation, then 3hr Ban for EORG, no warning needed. Add a note for EORG.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
Unless the victim ahelps or the soap is used for griefing purposes, I believe soap slipping is a healthy part of marine chucklefuckery. Leave it as an IC issue and let MPs handle it accordingly.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
Warn him about the rules of proper escalation. Add a note. Consider a ban if repeated offender. Ban duration depending on note history.

Any additional information you'd like to add?
I enjoy RP and events.

Personally have found Ray to be a very competent player, very nice guy and doubt he wouldn't adhere to any of the given rules. I personally believe that his answers are competent and that he can adapt to most situations I can think of during his time as staff, +1.
Garth Pawolski, or is it Powalski?

Back in action.

Only two issues arise in your app. 1 hour bans are essentially non-existent. We go warning, 3 hours, 24 hours, 3 days, 1 week, and then perma request if it's the same issue.

Also, I would have liked to see more of your investigative process in the escalation question. Otherwise, I see no pertinent issues here that we can't work out in trial. +1.
