Staton - Moderator Application

Post by Staton » 30 Mar 2017, 21:10

Byond ID: Staton

Colonial Marines Character: Kaitlyn Pratt

Age: 20

Gender: M

Timezone: EST

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?

I usually play three or four hours a day, so maybe twentyish at best.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?

I was an operator for AlteredRP, a Gmod based serious halo roleplay. Two time admin on taconbanana stalker serious roleplay, gmod based. Admin on a gmod darkrp server, impactedgaming.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?

I only started playing in october 2016 so I don't think so.

What other servers do you play on?

None.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?

SS13 related, none. Gmod related, taconbanana stalkerRP, hl2RP, and other random serious RP servers.

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?

No.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?

Taconbanana stalker RP.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?

No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)?

No.

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?

Not familiar, but willing to acquire.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.

See if it was an accident first off, and if they continue to do it. If they do, and it's not for an IC reason that can be dealt with ICly via MPs then I'd explain why they cannot. If they're understanding and apologetic, I'd note them and continue to observe.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.

Breaching intentionally into space isn't allowed, so if I find that it was done intentionally I'd fix it, explain to the person why they cannot and note the person. If it's done through game mechanics such as the Rasputin, or explosions from things such as predators, and the super matter, I'd leave it be. If it's done by accident, I'd fix it if I could and note the person.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.

I wouldn't ignore their requests, but inform them that they need to resolve it another way, whatever way they choose that to be. I feel like asking a higher up on the administration team to give a MOTHER report would resolve the situation and encourage them to deal with it themselves. I don't have permission to authorize the nuke codes anyway, but in the event that it seemed reasonable, I'd ask a head staff member what they thought.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.

I'd first ask them why they threw the grenade, and see their explanation. If it was an accident and nobody or nothing was harmed, I'd leave it be. If another player or game vital equipment was damaged, I'd explain what they did and note them, even if an accident and then repair and heal if possible. I'd check note history for anything similar happening prior, and if it has, consult someone about proper punishment, especially if it directly affected another player's game play.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.

Ask them to not spam Ahelp with anything that isn't necessary of a response. If they do it again, mute and note.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.

Inform him about the requirements of having a roleplay name on the server, and ask him to change it. He may just be inexperienced with RP oriented servers and need some help. I'd note it so we could know if he was previously warned.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, none has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

I'd inform them that they should read the rules prior to playing to avoid situations like this, and that no one asking them to change it before is irrelevant. It needs to be changed, regardless of how long he's used it if it's not RP friendly. Would note, and if they still express concern remind them that they can make a complaint if they feel wronged, but for now to change it. If the complaint goes to show that it's a reasonable name, they can change it back.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.

I'd tell them that they're not allowed to carry the rifle unless in view of an imminent threat. Tell him he needs to go and perform the job that he took up a slot for, note it, and remind him about the possibilities of job bans. If prior history on notes, I'd ask about a temporary job ban to a higher up staff member.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

Tell him to stop right where he is in the surgery, to close the patient up and to handle it on their level of medical care and IC knowledge. There isn't doctors in the FOB, but there are doctors on the Sulaco. Note it and inform about the possibilities of a job ban. Same with the doctor, check previous history.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

Inform someone higher up on the admin team about my concerns, and let them take it over from there. If there is no one else, I'd message both sides and ask them to finish the round out, so that others can continue to enjoy the game.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.

If it's unprovoked, and obvious EORG then I'd ban for three hours without warning. If previous history of EORG, perhaps extend it to six after consulting others.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.

Let it slide for the most part, let the one who was slipped attempt to handle it IC. If the player is constantly harassing people with such things to the point to where an ahelp is made, or it's of obvious annoyance and not for IC reasons, ask them why they're doing it, listen to their explanation, inform them that they've started to take it to a point of griefing, and note. Check if noted before for the same occurrence.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

Inform him that regardless of what IC reasoning behind it, it was improper escalation, and that he should've attempted to handle it in a less explosively violent and reasonable approach. Note them, check notes for similar occurrences and talk to others about a reasonable punishment.

Any additional information you'd like to add?

I am in no way shape or form very familiar with the administration aspects of SS13 game modes. I have administration experience but there's still a lot I have to learn about this system, and what tools are available for me to use in order to properly do my job. I do communicate a lot with other team members, I ask a lot of questions, double check before I do mostly about anything until the point that I'm self reliant. Military background so I have no problem listening, and doing what's asked regardless of who it is. I didn't even think much about applying until I was asked to. So I may not be very spot on with a lot of these answers, but I do genuinely care and would like to test the waters and see if being a part of moderating is something I'm interested here, if I'm accepted.

It clearly says you cant be a staff member on another server.

Edit: My bad, misread it.

It's not an SS13 server, I think anyway. Never heard of it if it is

He even states at the extra info part that he has no experience admiring SS13

However to the application itself
  • For question 1, What would you do if they had prior notes on this kind of matter?
  • For question 2, same complaint as question 1
  • For question 4, we sadly can't fix most things as moderator but that is a minor complaint, since that would only be something a mod+ would know
  • For question 10, even if there is an rp reason, we still ban for EoRG (If it is blue on blue)
Overall really good application and by the looks of it, you have really looked over accepted applications and seen many of the complaints given to them. This shows you are dedicated to learning this role, so with that I will be giving you a +1

+1, this is fine. We can work on everything Spoony mentioned, and you'll just have to become more forum active in your trial phase.
