Juninho77 - Moderator Application [Reloaded]

Post by Juninho77 » 29 May 2015, 20:32

Byond ID:
Juninho77

Age:
19

Gender:
Male

Timezone:
Eastern Time Zone/GMT -5

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
If the clock in and clock out verbs don't screw me up, I should easily hit 20 hours per week, with a peak on weekends.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
Oh, yeah. I've been a moderator in a SS13 server for some 72 hours.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
No.

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines or New Eden denied before?
No.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
No.

If a player was shooting everyone in briefing at round start how would you deal with the situation?
Well, a similar situation has actually already happened to me. It was not in briefing room, but it involved a marine killing other marines.
► Show Spoiler
You notice that a xeno is breaching the Nostromo and is unable to seal it with resin. How would you deal with this and what punishment would you give for a first offender?
I... Uh... This is the reason why I quit... I'll leave this one to the end.

The marines want the nuke codes to detonate the Nostromo because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who. What do you do?
I'd obviously deny it. Here's a line I quite like using:
"I am the manager of this solar system. My engineer just got me out of a very important meeting because of you, Mr. Schofield. Let me make something clear here: we pay you VERY well to do your job. We are NOT going to give you a green light to destroying a trillion-dollars-worth space station, so you better figure something else out."

A Sulaco Medic has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online. What do you do?
Holy fuck... These marines, I tell you... Well, investigate and then:
1) Is he a griefer? If so, add note and ban him. Punishment matches the damage he caused.
2) Was it a mistake? If so, check his notes for other "mistakes". If the damage wasn't that great, leave him off with a warning and a note. Big damage? Get the banhammer and reward him with a short (1-2 hours) ban

What would you do if a player started to talk about the things he did to your mom last night?
"Dude, that's creepy. She ain't even alive no more." I mean, uh...
"http://cm-ss13.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1363 . You have five minutes to go to that link, read rule 8, and report back to me. Your next ahelp goddamn better be an apology merged with a very good explanation."
If he decides to be a smartass, give him a short ban (20 minutes~), and add a note. No fucking around on my shift.

Any additional information you'd like to add?
Yes. I can cook and cle... Well, I used to be a staff member like you, then I took an arrow in the knee I came upon this situation. You know the xeno breaching rule? Yeah. This one:
You notice that a xeno is breaching the Nostromo and is unable to seal it with resin. How would you deal with this and what punishment would you give for a first offender? [Warning: wall of text ahead]
Well, I saw a drone breaching prison (and not enclosing with walls/doors) on two spots. I quickly fixed a breach that was in my reach, and I PMed the drone about her second breach. She fixed it and told me she did not know about the breach rule. I went to the logs and searched for her Byond username: no results, that means she was really new to the server and gave support to her story [that she hadn't read the rules]."

Then I checked the rules. Notably this:
No Breaching - Breaching to space, for ANY REASON (unless, your an alien, and pre-seal the area with resin to prevent atmos loss) will result in a 24 hour (minimum) ban.

At that point I tried to convince myself to follow the rules and apply the 24h ban. I remember having it in my head: "rule's straightfoward. If you can't ban this one, you're no good as a moderator." But she had fucking apologized to me for the breach, and she said that it would not happen again. Fuck. In the end, I took me some five minutes to realize that I just couldn't ban her. Upon that realization, I just shut my computer off and went to bed. That night I listened to the voice that said "a decent mod would've followed the rules". And resigning was the first thing I did when I woke up the next day.

Now I'd like to undo it: I'm asking for a second chance as a moderator.

If you would permaban a player, you owe it to him to look into his logs and hear his side of the story. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the player does not deserve to be banned.

I can vouch for Junin. He's a very level headed person who certainly seems to have his heart in the right place. Every encounter I've had with him in-game was positive and he's incredibly robust too.

You left two weeks ago. Why the flakiness?

@helios345:
Thanks for those words, man. I'll do what I can to live up to them.

@Rahlzel:
Because one night I saw a newbie who had breached Nostromo and fixed it right away when asked to. I could not force myself to give her a 24h ban, and I concluded that I wouldd be no good as a moderator.

That was clearly a mistake.

I still do not understand your reason for leaving the CM Staffs. If you wouldn't be able to deliver a 24 Hour Ban, you still can warn him and write him up. Otherwise, I still do not understand.

Yes. I am sure I want back. In fact, I regretted resigning the day I did it, but the PM had already been sent.

The saddest part is that... Rule 0 actually allowed me to do that [ignoring the stipulated 24h minimum ban] without a problem. Well, I hadn't considered it [rule 0] when I made that poor decision of resigning.

All in all, this time I got a neutral when before I had a -1. *wink* *wink*.

Edited for clarification.

Copy pasted from the same rule you mentioned > "Rule 0. Admins (not Mods) retain the authority to ignore the following rules"

To add on with what Felkvir said, I have been told in the past only the heads of Staff and hosts can initiate admin martial law.

What would be admin martial law?

"Admin Martial Law" is just something SASoperative came up with while players are constantly breaking rules in one round and driving admins crazy, enabling the Admin Martial Law as a solution to all problems. This enables Admins, Head of Staffs, Co-Host, and Host to be above the server rules. Punishments will be HARSH during this situation. However, honestly, I don't know if Game Admins are permitted to enable Martial Law as they have enough power, but I do know that Moderators are not permitted.

Update/Edit: Because of his/her actions in gameplay. I have decided to turn my Neutral to -1.

Here's what happened:
-Alien drone got trapped into a room by me and some three other marines.
-Drone escaped into space, delaying the end of the round (there were some two aliens and thirty marines left).
-I went after the drone and killed it.
-Round ended two minutes later.
-That's bad, because I'm "being a rambo."

Update: I did this to address the issue.

Well, it's not looking good. I always expected this to be an uphill battle (I'm looking at you now, Unknown dude), but I don't think I'm winning this one.

And it's really a shame. Being a moderator, even for a short 72-hour period, was an awesome experience. Not only I actually got to positively contribute to CM, which - and I hope this is not a huge exaggeration - I love dearly, but I was put in situations that tested me and made rethink concepts I took for granted. Since I started in SS13, I always sought to maintain order. The very first job I picked? Security officer. I still remember spawning naked in arrivals (probably due to a bug), all lights smashed and I, confused, asking where was security. A week later, I took my stab at HoS, and that was my first experience at giving people sentences for their misconducts.

But unlike a HoS's brig time, which usually only creates a metagrudge, a moderator's *boink* - and sometimes a ban - can actually change people's ways. In the short while I've been here, I've seen that happen. And these are the things that make it worth being a moderator. You actually have power to shape the community you are in, and this is a community a like very much. It can be a stressful job, but I'd be lying if I said I don't miss it dearly.

Siiigh, Well Unkown is not the one who is approves or declines these things anymore, If I were to accept you, due to your reasons for resigning in the past, would you think it would be reasonable to extend your trial period for a bit longer so staff can monitor your performance etc?

I am always up for giving a second chance for people if they show they are willing to accept it and make the best of it.

I'd find that very reasonable, SAS. I can't really blame anyone for not trusting me easily: I was the one who resigned my position on a two-lines-long PM.

With the risk of sounding like a dramatizer, have you ever heard the saying "you never know how much you love something until you lose it?" Yeah.

Thanks for your support.

I am still debating here but I have said in the past I never mind giving people second chances so long as they are willing to accept those. It looks like your accepting this one however, Consider yourself accepted, Standby for Apop to process you.
