Meww's Moderator Application

Post by Meww » 17 Sep 2015, 08:04

Byond ID: Meww

Colonial Marines Character: Riley Clarke / Various aliens (sometimes queen)

Age: 24

Gender: Female

Timezone: Pacific Standard Time (washington) GMT -8

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?: Probably about 20 or 30, i usually hop on for rounds throughout the week and sometimes late at night when able.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?: Not really, I've moderated a couple of ancient forums a long while ago, but there weren't many problems back there to speak of in the first place.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?: The nostromo version for a good bit, yes

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines or New Eden denied before?: No

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?: No

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?: No

If a player was shooting everyone in briefing at round start how would you deal with the situation?
First action would be to put the given marine to sleep (if possible as a mod, i do not know the exact verbs available) and investigate. See if anything in particular had started this, or if it was just blind grief- If something IC had started this, let the MP handle it and the doctors clone/treat those hurt. If it WAS a griefer, I would message them asking their reasons, if needed give them a ban (I don't know the exact ban times advised for grief, EOR grief is 3 hours so I assume normal would be more considering the round is in effect.) and revive the marines killed by the griefer.

You notice that a xeno is breaching the Nostromo(you mean sulaco?) and is unable to seal it with resin. How would you deal with this and what punishment would you give for a first offender?
Message them to tell them that is against the rules- If they didn't know it was not allowed or it was an honest mistake, tell them not to do it again and see if it could be sealed some other way. If it was intentional, give them a warning and try to find a way to get it fixed if it is disrupting gameplay. Also add a note saying they intentionally breached.

The marines want the nuke codes to detonate the Nostromo because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who. What do you do?
Give a centcomm (or wey-yu i guess) announcement telling them the general area of the aliens, not too specific, and let them hunt the rest down themselves.

A Sulaco Medic has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online. What do you do?
Warn the medic because A: Powergaming, a medic should not know how to make napalm grenades at all, and B: Napalm is currently not allowed. The medic should be held partially responsible for any griefing caused by their grenades. Ask the marine why he threw the grenade- If there were aliens in there, warn him napalm is still not allowed. If it was griefing, give a ban thats appropriate (again, not sure on the exact ban times recommended for specific offenses) and possibly partially punish the medic.
As for fixing up- If possible, get someone to patch it up (engineer or maint tech) but if it is severe enough the marines cannot function or fix it and the round would be hindered to the point of unplayability (and no admins are able to get on) then a restart would be needed, sadly.

What would you do if a player started to talk about the things he did to your mom last night?
If they were using ahelp, I would tell them to stop, as it'd be a little disruptive. If it was over deadchat or ooc, I would ignore it unless it got to the point of being spam, in which case i would warn them to stop. If they continued after the warning, I'd mute them.

Any additional information you'd like to add?
I DO play a lot, but usually its as an alien. Also, I lurk a lot on the forums and don't post unless I for sure have something to contribute...Sorry! If required I could try to post more in the future. I talk a lot on deadchat when possible when I'm on. If there's anything you'd like added or answered, just ask. Thanks!

Neutral. I haven't seen you yet too much, but you seem a solid player.

Show more of yo' self, and I'll adjust my opinion accordingly! :)

I've seen in-game plenty of times and you're plenty mature enough to be part of staff. Answers and much better than some of the ones I've seen. I'm not one to reject an app just because they aren't popular on the forums, so I'll definitely be giving this my +1.

Has a few kinks to iron out, such as the marine being punished more than the medic (the medic made the nades; the person's a medic, not a researcher), but is overall an average application.

I would really like it if you'd get a tad bit more active on the forums at the very least, but I can overlook that due to the shortage of staff who mainly play alien, and the shortage of staff in general at the moment.

Thanks a ton for the plusses, and yeah that's true Lostmixup. I'm honestly not sure on the exact punishment/ban times, but seeing as the medic broke the rules twice I'd give them more punishment (but throwing a napalm bomb into logistics for no reason is also a little bad(well i'd find the reason if there was one of course)) especially since the rules state they're held responsible for the bombs they've created.

As for the forum stuff, I'll do my best- I'm a little bit of a natural lurker but I'll see if I can't pitch in every once in a while. I play the game fairly often, but being alien means I'm not recognized much- I've been trying to play marine more (as riley clarke) even if I'm not the best at it. Thanks for the input though, everyone.

You'll kinda figure it out as you go along. At least, that's how it's been for me. So don't fret too much about that.

Real quick you do understand that you being a staff member means you will have to be active on the forums?

+1 as most of the staff seems to be men and there needs to be more equal representation of gender in the admin team

.... I'm not sure your vote is worth being counted.. Since you are REALLY just one upping someone for being a woman as if something sexist is going on..

But anyways I'm neutral on this. I have not seen this person but their answers are slightly competent looking

Well her answers were also good and I recognize the player and she does good RP when she's on too, but those are the obvious things everyone says anyway too. The equal representation and balance on the admin team I think is very important too.

Equal representation is only a thing if they are competent, The reason there is not that many females is because not as many females play this server and want to apply for staff.. It just shouldn't be a deciding factor on gender.

+1, I recognize her as one of the more mature players. This application could use some buffing and your knowledge could be a bit further, but humans learn as they go.
