MarkValentine - Moderator Application

Post by Mark Valentine » 09 Oct 2015, 15:09

Byond ID: MarkValentine

Colonial Marines Character: Charles 'Shocky' Fenix

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Timezone: (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? At least 30, currently in my Senior year of High School but I have a reduced schedule so I come home at around 12:30ish.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Yes I have been an Administrator on many HL2 RP servers on Garrysmod, and two Administrative positions on SS13.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? Yes I played the older variation when we boarded a station instead of invading a planet. Nostromo if I'm not mistaken.

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? Besides a donation, no.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.

If it's one or two shots I'll consider it accidental and role played as a misfire. If they are deliberately firing multiple times I will immediately message them, asking them why they're shooting and politely ask them to cease and get into character. After doing so I will check their notes and check for other offenses if any are recorded before writing my own note. If they do not stop I will give them a warning before putting them to sleep. Once put to sleep they will be given one more chance to get their act together before being banned for two hours so they can cool off.

If the individual in question entered briefing and began firing on everyone they would immediately be considered as griefing the round and promptly banned for three hours. Notes regarding the situation and the ban would be written on their player notes. Players involved in the random occurrence would also be revived to full health.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.

This scenario has many different variables, depending mostly on the cause of the breach. If this was a grief breach it would be handled accordingly: Message. Investigate. Determine Violation. Determine History. Determine Punishment. Take notes regarding the incident. Now if the breach was caused IC from RP, then it's a job for the Engineers aboard the Sulaco. As always these scenarios depend if it was caused by legitimate role play.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.

USCM Command announcement indicating that we are unable to deliver codes at this time, and to finish the operation.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.

A researcher shouldn't be making Napalm grenades, dictated by rule number six under the Marine-Specific rules for the server. I would give a warning and elaborate on the rule to the individual who made them, repeat offenses would result in an extensive ban. If possible I would see who had taken said grenade and inform them to immediately drop them so they are immediately removed from the round. A note would also be recorded, logs proving in regards to the incident.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.

Explain to the individual that they are currently misusing Ahelp and are given a polite warning to stop with their shenanigans. Continuing of said behavior will result in a warning and muted until they can clean up their act. A note would be recorded with the logs of their statements.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.

Inform them that their name is against our naming rules, elaborate on the naming rules and server rules in general, and then request they suggest a new name to be given to their character. Setting a new name for said character and writing a note regarding their past name.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

Inform them that the rules are almost always open to change by the Host, send them a URL copy of the server rules and allow them to enlighten themselves. Politely request a new name and add to their notes that they stated they were unaware.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.

Sulaco Doctors should never be armed, period. Sulaco Doctors number one priority is treating wounded marines and other authorized individuals. I would send the individual a message, inform them of the rules, tell them to put the weapon down immediately, and then write a note.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

Inform the individual that they do not have the IC knowledge to perform surgery, only stabilize individuals. Send them them a copy of the server rules and copy paste the note under Squad Medic so they are informed. Write a note after they have ceased surgery.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

USCM Command requesting a status update and report, ordering the Marines to setup base on the planet for future operations. Staff are required to preserve the RP and round integrity, Moderators do not have the authority to hand over nuke codes or add their own aspect to the round to encourage an engagement other than that what I suggested.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.

This is end round griefing which requires a severe punishment, three hour ban no warning. Note would also be added.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.

Staff wouldn't interfere with this as it's just IC shenanigans, I've had this happen to me and I merely chuckled and picked the soap up. Tossing it into Disposals. If they continue to do it for most of the round instead of stopping and getting back into character I would message them to politely cut it out.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

Check the logs, if it's true than it's an IC self-defense scenario and he then forfeits admin assistance and would most likely be detained by the MP's.

If the logs provide the incident has not being the case it's a no reason murder which is griefing. Resulting in a warning message, ban and note regarding his behavior along with log proof. Ban most likely consisting of maybe five hours and the individual who was griefed would be revived.

Any additional information you'd like to add?
SS13 servers are all different on how tight they run their ships, I've read up on the Code of Conduct and Server Rules. I've been playing here for a while and decided I could help out more than just donating. I didn't read anything on specific ban times, but I wouldn't go past more than a few hours unless it was a repeated offense which would dictate an extensive ban time.

Well a few of these questions you would not be able to do as a moderator.... Administrators and above are the ones who make the USCM reports to everyone regardless of the administrative actions you would take given you do not know who has what though is eh. +1 though pretty decent guy in the community and pretty cool guy in game also. And a decent app. It gets a C+ from me

Yeah it depends on the server restrictions per staff ranks, I was an Administrator before so I'm not sure on the Moderators abilities. Appreciate the support SAS!

+1 Your answers are decent enough and you seem to have a good understanding of the protocols. As SAS said however, you should learn which powers Moderators have and do not have.

Appreciate it Vrai, I tried looking them up on the forums. There's no thread with said information, if you could redirect me that would be most appreciated.

Also, the application questions asked me what I personally would do in the situation. I was just giving my humble opinion on what I would do with the abilities I might of had at my disposal.

Pretty great conduct in-game, and the answers are decent. Like Vrai and SAS said, learning what tools you have at your disposal as a moderator would be helpful, but I won't repeat that broken record. From first-hand experience, I'd say +1.

In my brief time as a multikeying trial moderator, I saw him frequently. Never had a bad interaction with him, and I'm sure he'll bring something positive to the community.
Long live our Soviet motherland,
Built by the people's mighty hand.
Long live our people, united and free.
Strong in our friendship tried by fire.
Long may our crimson flag inspire,
Shining in glory for all men to see.
