Gentlefood Moderator Application

Post by Gentlefood » 17 Feb 2016, 20:32

Byond ID: Gentlefood

Colonial Marines Character: Jeremy 'Dire' Wolfe

Age: 23

Gender: Male

Timezone: Central US, UTC - 06:00

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 28 Hours, may be subject to change up or down depending on other obligations

Do you have a Skype account (Skype is REQUIRED)? Yes

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Yes, Admined for a few years multiple TF2 Servers

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? No

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? No

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.

If the player is firing his weapon at another player and the other player ahelps the situation I will take action, otherwise this is not a direct violation of the rules and will leave it up to the MPs to handle.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.

Look into the situation before taking action. Following these steps in order. 1. Is the breach intentional, (Acid, C4, etc). 2. Find the player/action responsible. 3.a. If found to be intentional; the player responsible will be contacted, a note will likely be assigned to their account, and any further punishments due of the situation will be assigned. 3.b. If found to be unintentional and within my power, repair the damage. If not within my power, contact a staff member who can repair the damage.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.

Even disregarding the current disparity of marines to aliens, as a new moderator I would not have the authority to give them the nuke codes to begin with. Following that, if permitted I may make a M.O.T.H.E.R. report indicating that the marines should stop hiding and assault the remaining hostiles.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.

Two steps will be taken, assuming the 'napalm grenades' are of the banned variety the Sulaco Researcher will be contacted to stop making them and potentially be noted. Following that, the marine who caused the incident will be dealt with to the best of my allowed abilities, failing that I will attempt to contact a higher ranking staff member to repair the damage.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.

Warn the player that disrespecting the staff is against server policy. If he continues to act like a child a note will be added about his antagonistic personality, and further applicable punishment will be applied as per necessary.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.

Contact the marine stating the policy and asking him to change the name for the next round. If he changes the name no further action will be taken, otherwise if he is antagonistic about the issue a note will be potentially added and further steps will be taken.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

Ignorance of the rules is no excuse, I'm sorry that I have to be the bearer of bad news, and even if its been used for years does not exempt it from the rule.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.

The Sulaco doctor will be contacted and asked to drop his weapon and attend to his job. If this is prior to xenomorphs boarding the Sulaco a note may be added and further steps may be taken if applicable, if this is post Sulaco invasion and he is actively headed back to Medbay and drops the weapon no further action will be taken.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

Contact the player in question and inform him that regardless of the lack of doctors in the fob he is not permitted to do surgery. A note will be added about his powergaming. Further actions will be taken if applicable.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

If permitted the MOTHER messaging system I may provide the marines with a 'bioscan' of the planet. Otherwise I would try to use IC encouragement without revealing information my character would not know.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.

The marine would be contacted, noted, and issued an immediate three hour ban. A reminder that End of Round Grief is not allowed will be stated in OOC chat.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.

Considering the recent rulings and the rule 1. The marine would be contacted to stop what he is doing. If he continues a note will be added and further action will be taken as per required.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

If the combat logs indicate the two had been in a fight, and if my interpretation of how the not griefing rule is correct, no further action will be taken. Otherwise actions consistent with the griefing rules will be taken against the player.

Any additional information you'd like to add?

I can't really think of anything, although I am currently searching for a job. Depending on this my hours per week may fluctuate until I can be sure of my schedule.

While a few of the answers I don't like this is one of the better apps so far, +1.

If you would elaborate on which answers you don't like I'd be happy to expand on them or be corrected. A lot of my answers were given because while I know the rules, I do not know the server policy on enforcing the rules.

#1, someone firing on marines during breifing unless there is a reason is strictly prohibited and it is SOP for staff to intervene even if no players ahelp it.
#5, Just mute their ahelp, I can't really fault you for that one, before I was a mod on SS13 I didn't know you could mute ahelps.

Everything else looks good.

I probably should have been more clear on #1. If it fell under the griefing rules I would have taken action. But that was my mistake.

As for #5 I figured you could likely mute their ahelp, but I think it might be more prudent to gauge the player in question's attitude and responses. After admining for TF2 for a few years I've heard probably most if not all insults in the book, they don't effect me. But I'll defer to the SOP.

Number 12 sort of bothered me, escalation of force and all that. The application is alright. Neutral.

I don't see why not, I know you and you know what you're talking about.

Can't say I really enjoyed this exchange. It's not *that* bad, but it certainly left a sour taste in my mouth. That whole bug report did not feel like a bug report to me, but rather a passive-aggressive chide towards the dev-team's balancing efforts.

Neutral, leaning towards a -1 from me. The rest of your application looks pretty good.

I'm sorry that interaction spoiled your impression of me. However as stated above I was exhausted at the time of writing said bug report, and again while that does not excuse such behavior I would like to say it is very atypical of how I normally am. And may I ask what other things have "come to light"?
