Killaninja12's Moderator Application

Post by Killaninja12 » 17 Feb 2016, 21:21

Byond ID: Killaninja12

Colonial Marines Character: Edward 'Knight' Sholl

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Timezone: EST

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?

It’s hard to pin it exactly, but I’d put it more around 30-40. As I am currently home schooled, and my activities I participate in are currently not active.

Do you have a Skype account (Skype is REQUIRED)?

Yes, I do.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?

I sadly do not have any staff experience within SS13. However, I make up for it in experience with administration and the ownership of various communities across different games. I’ve owned 4 successful heavy role play Half Life 2 servers, along with the most recent server being a heavy Star Wars Imperial RP server. I’ve administrated for heavy RP serves on Persistent World on Mount and Blade Warband as well.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?

Yes, I played the old NEstation server, at least I believe that’s what it was, for a small amount of time.

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?

No

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?

As of current, no.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?

No

Common Staff Situations:

Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.

I’d observe over the player to see what is happening in the current events of the situation. If the player is shooting at objects such as glass, tables, etc, I’d allow MP’s to handle it IC’ly. However, if the player was shooting at players, I’d either freeze or put the player to sleep. I’d question him to ask why he was shooting at other players, while also checking the logs to see what happened in terms of RP and damage logs. If the player didn’t have a sufficient reason in terms of shooting at other players, I’d revive the killed/injured players and place a ban on the player and add a note. In another case, if the player was new and wasn’t shooting at other players I’d PM the player informing him that we’re a MediumRP server, and are to attain a certain level of role play within the server. I’d then link them to the rules, Colonial-Marines Wiki, and answer any questions I’m able to assist him with.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.

I’d first examine the logs to see what or whom caused the breach, and administer a fix to the breach. Whereafter, if a player had caused a breach, I’d move along to question the player as to why he’d caused a breach to the Sulaco. If they’ve caused a breach with nary a sign of malicious or harmful intent, I’d issue a warning and tell the player to try and be more careful next time with what they’re attempting to do. If the player was confirmed for intention of grief, I’d look to his notes to see if he has any past history in terms of behavior or problems. If the player hasn’t had a past history of grief, I’d warn him and list a note, and if the player does have past issues, I’d list the ban for longer depending on the severity of past notes.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.

Inform the Marines that I am not allowed to hand out the nuclear codes, and that only the heads of staff may allow the nuke codes to be given. I would then make a readout from M.O.T.H.E.R inquiring that there are between 1-10 lifeform movements scanned in that sector of the planet.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.

I’d PM the researcher, informing them that the napalm grenade he issued to someone has indeed been used for griefing purposes and he is held accountable for the issue as well. If the researcher has past notes accounting to grief, or similar actions, I’d issue a job-ban and a ban from the game. If the Marine whom threw the grenade had thrown it into Logistics for malicious intent, I’d issue a ban to the Marine and add a note. If the Marine had proper role play conditions towards throwing the grenade, I’d PM him and inform him that Napalm grenades aren’t allowed to be made or used due to the complications they coincide with Atmos and give him a warning. I’d then proceed to relay to everyone in OOC that grenades such as Napalm grenades are not allowed to be made and used, as they again, cause issues.

5. A player is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.

At first, I’d simply ignore the obvious attempt at trolling and inquiry to bait me for a response. If he continues to insult me, I’d simply give him a warning, explaining to him to stop as he’s halting my ability to assist other players. If the player continues, I’d mute him from Admin help and make note of it.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.

I would inform the player with a PM that his name doesn’t fit within our naming policy within the rules and inform him that he requires a first name and last name, and is allowed a nickname within it. I’d ask him to choose a name along with a nickname if he’d request that, and change it to the appropriate name. (I believe I’m able to do that.) I’d continue to tell them that their ID with their name will not be changed and request that they move to ask whomever is currently in command to requisition a change for their ID card and write a note for the player.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

I would politely inform the player that, while they may have used said name for several years, it does not put them above anyone else and they must still follow the regulations in place for the server. I’d link the ruleset for them, informing them that ignorance isn’t an excuse as it’s stated in game in the ready screen. Should he escalate the situation any further, I’d add a note for the player and issue a mute for Ahelp if he doesn’t simmer down.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.

I’d first PM the doctor, informing him that he is not allowed to be walking around with anything heavier than a pistol and tell him he should simply put it down. I’d secondly inform him that he should be doing his job as a doctor, and should be within the medbay tending to the wounded and sickly that come in. Whereafter, I’d issue a note for the player.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

PM the Marine, telling him/her that they are NOT a field surgeon, but simply a Combat Medic. I’d relay to them that they are only to stabilize the patient so they can either get back in the field, or proceed to be taken back to the Sulaco for further examination by the doctors aboard. I’d link them to the rules, as well as the wiki page for Colonial Marines Squad Medic so that they may learn how to properly role play a Squad Medic. I’d then proceed to list a note for the player.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

As I’m not allowed to make events, only in which higher admins are, I’d to my best to attempt to use M.O.T.H.E.R to inform them of the lifeform movements, similar to question number 3, or attempt contact via USCM High Command or through fax, depending on the current status of the role play scenario.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.

I’d simply ban the player for ERG for a few hours, and add a note to the player.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.

This one is a touchy subject as well, and is dependent upon the scenario at hand. In one case, if the Marine is consistently slipping people, I’d prefer to allow MP to take care of the situation as it would enhance the role play being driven and made by the players. However, if said player continues to just slip everyone in a cause to just be a nuisance/griefer, I’d allocate them the link to the rules and point him towards the “Do not be a dick” rule, and continue to issue a warning and list a note. If the Marine continues onwards after and ignores my warning, I’d issue a short ban of a few hours to the player.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

I’d look into both sides of the story, requesting both sides of the story from both players. Along with them giving me their sides of the story, I’d continue to check the logs and damage reports to see what happened in terms of RP to escalate the situation for him to kill another Marine. If he had legitimate reasoning behind his terms of execution, I’d inform both parties that it was confirmed legitimate, and have the situation resolved and stop interference. However, if Marine 1 simply murdered the other Marine for just punching him, I’d inform Marine 1 that the situation requires sufficient role play to occur before he can obtain the right to acceptably kill the other Marine. A small punch is in no bounds of reason to kill another person. I’d then apply a small ban to Marine 1 if he has no past notes of behavioral issues, or apply a longer ban depending on past notes. I’d then revive Marine 2 and close the issue.

Any additional information you'd like to add?

I’d like to wholeheartedly state that, while yes I do not have many posts within these forums, I’d like to say that I have browsed the forums and have attempted to be active within this community for sometime. I’d hope to offer my assistance to the server, as I greatly like this community and would like to give back to the server and it’s people. Also, while I stated previously that I do not have much administration experience within SS13, I’d like to try and have a chance to change that here and offer what experience I do have from other games and game modes. Thanks for reading, and have a nice day!

You do seem pretty professional, and the answers are pretty good for the most part. I'd appreciate a little more activity on the forums, but that can be eventually remedied through time.

Sure, I'd be all for giving you a chance.
You know what you're talking about, and has it's been said, your low activity can be remedied.

Being a veteran of Gmod serious RP myself aswell, I can say those are the most difficult, time-consuming and stressful server types to administrate talking about running them. There are a lot of trollers / mingers who come on the server almost every day. The application is also good and this all indicates you are more than qualified for the position. +support

This may be the best application that has been filed out of the bunch.

You've got a +1 from me.
