MatchaFrappe - Moderator Application

Post by matchafrappe » 18 Feb 2016, 04:05

Byond ID: MatchaFrappe

Colonial Marines Character: Nettie Payten Clarke, M.D., B.S.N.

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Timezone: UTC+10 Chamorro Standard Time

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 20-30 hours

Do you have a Skype account (Skype is REQUIRED)? Yes

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? No

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? No

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? No

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
This breaks RP and harms other players. The player will receive an immediate temporary ban.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
The breach will be immediately repaired. If it was an intentional breach, then the player responsible will receive a temporary ban.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
Respond according to RP that the nuke codes are unavailable at this time.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
Immediately remove the napalm grenades and repair Logistics and use the rules as an example to explain why they are not allowed. If this is a repeat offense, then hand out a ban.

5. A player is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
The player will be muted. Further speech of the same matter will receive a temporary ban.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
Remind them to change their name according to the naming rules.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
Remind them that every round reminds the player to read the rules (there is no excuse for being ignorant) and that it states the rules for naming. They will just not be allowed to play if they do not change their name.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
Remind the doctor that the rules state they are not allowed to carry any weapons. In addition, the player will receive a job-ban if he does not return to his duties.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Rules are rules. The medic should stop the surgery and keep the patient alive until doctors are on the ship.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
I would become another survivor that had found a way to contact the Sulaco. I would call them to save me and survive as long as possible while at the same time luring both sides to find each other.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
As rules state, this is end-round grief. The player will receive an immediate 3-hour ban.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
This is also similar to situation number one but less lethal. If another player does not intervene and stop the marine, then the marine will be reminded to stop what he's doing. If the marine refuses to stop, then the marine will receive a temporary ban.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
Punching is an example of lethal force. If the marine had indeed punched him, then it is a valid situation. However, if the marine had not punched him, then he will receive a ban.

Any additional information you'd like to add?

I will not be a perfect admin but I would love criticism and correction so I can be a better one.

The app is good, though you should look into the escalation in answer 12. Jumping from a punch to lethals is a very iffy matter , and should be investigated.

Answer 4 seems rushed, and isn't entirely clear.

9 is very nonconventional, but creative - you wouldn't have the powers, but I like it.

I have seen you around, which is good.
I'm all for giving you a chance.

The catch is, you're gonna need a bit more forum activity.

Neutral, leaning to +1

Who will be punished - the marine that used the grenade, or the researcher that made it?

Nothing wrong with this answer in logical sense, but mods can't spawn themselves in. All ranks can, however, use the MOTHER announcement system.

This one I personally disagree with - punching someone in full armour does so little damage, you would have to keep it up for a few minutes to actually maim. One punch could have been a missclick and doesn't leave enough damage to - in my opinion - count as lethal force.
Also, the marine should have a-helped that he's being attacked instead of attacking back.

I can't even call these things above mistakes, so a big +1. Additional points for being a very friendly player.

Any way of getting involved with the community is good in my eyes, and you have, at least, shown that you care enough to do it.

Personally, I'll be switching to a +1.

Oh no, it was more than that...it was also counting before any admins interrupted. We'll be forever stupid because we can't count to 100 when we see a hot admin walk into the room. The community can't handle it when you guys pose with your ban hammers out. Let's just say we're starstruck. Literally.

Also, thank you for the opportunity at considering my application. I appreciate the feedback very much.

EDIT: I have now made threads that help promote the celebration of the community:
1. The Birthday Thread
2. The Staff Appreciation Thread

I would like to leave a +support here.

My decision to support this however is not only based on the application. You have been actively contributing to getting the whole community to know each other better and also trying to socially connect the players and the staff. We currently have quite significant "social separation" phenomenon between the staff and the players, and hiring you would be a step to the right direction. We need more staff who socialize with the players, instead of the opposite kind of staff who give a "robocop" impression of themselves to the players and only comes out once a player has done something wrong. Please stay like this.
