noize - Developer Application

Post by forwardslashN » 27 May 2016, 16:45

Byond ID: noize

Age: 26

Gender: Male

How would you define yourself? (Coder, Mapper, Spriter): All three, but I'm not really a coder outside of knowing DM.

If Coder, what languages? DM, html, a little java.

Any previous experience developing with SS13? Yes, I worked on /tg/station several years back. Did some solo projects later on, but haven't contributed to anything recently.

Proof of any previous or current work: The repo I contributed to is no longer available, but I can provide some of the archived pages upon request. You can already see my sprite work in the CM logo, as well as some of the current SS13 assets. I do have a fairly recent mapping project I did in my spare time HERE. Should be fairly stable, but I haven't tested it extensively.

How well do you know Git? I use sourcetree, but I know it.

Your primary job is server development, not policing the server. You may be given Moderator-level of access but you should *not* be invoking any administrative actions unless there are no moderators or Admins online. Do you understand? (Yes/No) Yes.

Anything else you'd like to add? I'm looking to fix bugs that bother me as a player; longer term I want to work on the CQC system and update the perspective of the walls/lockers/doors/etc to be closer to what you'd find on Goon. I'd be perfectly okay if someone else did this stuff, but with Abby leaving that's not exactly happening.

There's not really a ton to say here, you're already staff and did an awesome job on the CM logo. I'll have someone good at mapping look at the maps, and I'll try to think of a test.

Also, can you provide those archived pages? I'd like to take a gander.

Love Noize, definitely think he'd be a great fit to the Dev team. He's always been very helpful and oriented with the community, along with being very intelligent.

+1.

I think we have far more potential mentors than potential developers.
When the voice from the shadows calls you
When the wind whips past your ears
Will you stand when the weight is upon you
Or will you go to your knees in fear?

Anyways, here's your short test for a map:
Make sure you include pipes, wires and disposals if required.
Pick one of these two:
Task I: Archeological Site
If you played on Ice map, and found the archeology site there, you would notice that it lacks many small details.
Make something unique and detailed, as if an actual team worked there for months.
They could either find a massive crystal, a piece of ship crashed few millions of years ago underground or anything else that comes into your mind. Be creative.

Task II: Defensive Position
Marines have holed in a structure to held off alien invasions. Make it look like marines put some effort into holing it up and reinforcing it so they can defend it easily. It can either be a new building or an abandoned one (Abandoned one is much more wrecked.)
You can place landmarks or something to indicate turret positions and such. Size of it depends on you. It should be fine if it fits in doubled view (map view in options). Just don't do something miniature...

And do this also:
Task III: Your Imagination
You have full freedom here. It can either be a rough sketch for a new map in paint or other editing program, a super secret 5x5 room, a fully destroyed spaceship, a fully intact spaceship... Anything you think of, just make sure that it is as detail as possible (except for the map sketch), and is not relevant to task I or II.
Something small but interesting.

So:
Task I and Task III
or:
Task II and Task III

Do not post your results unless you are finished (either both of them at once or one by one, but finished).
Feel free to tell me if any questions regarding those task, either here or via PM.

Task I and III available HERE. Download the archive in the OP and replace the the two training facility files under maps with the files provided. Set yourself as admin, compile, and you're good to go. To access the maps, walk south a bit from spawn, then use the teleporter. Should be self explanatory after that. There are a few issues here and there, but both maps are basically complete. I would recommend bringing a lot of guns for the third mission.

There's honestly no reasonable test I could give that doesn't tell me what I already know you know. I'll send apop over.

I am very amazed! Looking at this code fills me with determination.

Jokes aside i think you would be a amazing addition to cm. How long have you been coding, mapping and spriting?
The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.

On and off for years, but I haven't really touched DM in a year or two until recently. Also, thanks to everyone for support. I'm mostly into CM because of the community despite our ups and downs. You guys are great.

You guys could always use the help and he seems to have a proper programming and mapping structure.
Noize's a pretty nice person and I'm confident he's not gonna turn the whole server upside down by making aliens spawn up top and marines down there... I hope.

If anything, I'm sure he'd still stick around to play once in a while and do some mentoring either way ^^ (+1)
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Noize is a cool guy, plus with you guys lacking a developer now, you need as much coding+mapping as you can get.

+1 buddy.
