Slc97 - Moderator Application

Colonial Marines Character:
Dom "Decker" Parnell

Age:
19

Gender:
Male

Timezone:
EST (GMT -5)

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
Probably around 2 a day, so 14 a week. Some days will be more and some less, but 14 a week should stay pretty stable.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
I do not.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
I did not.

What other servers do you play on?
The only other server I play on right now is Aurora

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?
In the last 6 years of playing SS13 I have only consistently played 4 servers, counting CM. Currently only Aurora. When I started I played Yog and Aliums. (on all of these I played Jack Sayek if you recognize me)

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?
I have not

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
I am not.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
No

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)?
In 6 years of SS13 I have only been jobbanned once. I accidentally released the singularity my first time being AI.

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?
I know what it is but have never used it.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
This is very situational. I'll need to message him and figure out if this is griefing or a proper escalation of force. I'll check the attacker's notes, freeze him and get the story. If he does not reply to me, chances are he's just griefing which will get him a ban. If he claims there's an RP reason and I can determine a proper escalation of force, then this would have to be handled as an IC issue.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
First thing I'd do is seal off the breach and then determine who caused it. If it was an accident than, I'll explain to the breacher to be more careful in the future. If it is an alien and they just went ahead and made a breach purposefully and for no real reason, then that would be a ban.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
Only head admins can give out nuke codes. I'd send them a MOTHER Report and a message to do their jobs.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
First thing is first, find the marine who tossed the grenade. This could have been an accident, especially if he's new (first time I tried to use a grenade, I accidentally primed it in my hand and had to throw it somewhere). Once I PM the grenade thrower, I'm going to assess the damage and weigh it against his response. If I can determine that it was in fact an accident and not a griefing attempt he'll get a warning, a note, and it'll be handled ICly. If the damage is bad and it is determined to be griefing, that's a ban.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
I'll warn him about abusing the Ahelp system and tell him that if he continues, he'll get a tempban and a note on his account.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
I have a really keen eye for vague references and have already pointed out at least one of these to admins, it irks me. I'd contact the guy and inform him of our naming rules. I'd tell him he has to be sure to change it to anything that fits the rules after the current round.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
Ignorance to the rules is not an excuse. If he refuses to change it, I'll simply change it for him, if mods have that power. If mods do not have that power and h continues to ignore the rules, I would put tempbans and notes on his file until he fixes it.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
I have to first off see if there is an immediate threat around him, as this is the only time doctors should be carrying rifles. If there is not one, I'll tell him to drop the rifle and that he needs to be back in medbay. If he continues to avoid doing his job at medbay I'd probably go ahead and give him a temporary jobban so that he is not filling a doctor spot someone else would want to play.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
I would remind him of the medic specific rules in which he cannot preform surgery and suggest he either medivac the patient or have a doctor come down from the Sulaco.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
I could put together a MOTHER announcement with the bioscan that would basically tell marines that they are winning and to go down and their jobs. Another fun one would be using WY orders to get the CL to either find a way to force the CO to order an assault, or even give the CL the ability to depose the CO in favor of someone a little more headstrong.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
This is end of round griefing plain and simple. I don't tolerate it at all it's an immediate 3 hour ban and a note.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
If this is the very beginning of the round, it's all fun and games. If this continues, I'm gonna talk to him about it and explain why it takes some of the fun from other players. If it continues from there, it's gonna be griefing and the ban hammer will fall.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
I have to check if this was a proper escalation of force. If there was proper escalation of force, then this is an IC issue. If not, I will check the player's notes. If there is nothing indicating this to be a common occurrence he'll get a warning and a note. If this is apparently a regular thing, he'll get a ban.

Any additional information you'd like to add?
I haven't been here long, that's true. I already like this server more than I have liked most past servers and I want to start adding whatever I can to it to make it more enjoyable to others as soon as I can. I like to think I have a good attitude and can both joke around with other players as well as be serious and very impartial when need be. I like to think that I'm able to see both sides of most situations and I think that my above answers will show how thoroughly I am able to look into a problem. Anyway, that's all I got.

I'm gonna go with neutral for now.
The answers are decent.
I don't really know you at all in game which is good and bad, good because it means I also have nothing against you but bad because I don't know how good you are as a player

3 posts, joined 7 days ago on the forums. Personally I'd suggest getting to know the Community MORE before applying.

Neutral.

I am new, that is completely true. My forum account is one week old. I was playing and creeping through the forums for like a week or so before that. I looked through some of the previous accepted applications and saw similar things in Warnipple, Scrat505, and Whistles applications where they all had young forum accounts. I know there used to be a forum account age requirement on apps, but it has recently been removed.

Like I said up top, I already love this server, and just want to contribute to it as best I can. I hope freemysoul and jdobbin see me more in game and decide they like me. I like to think that I've had mostly positive experiences with most of the players in game.

I saw how you acted here on the forums, trying to tone down a particular discussion onto more respectable terms, and those three posts already made me want to support you.
Get a little more activity, and you'll be straight up fine by my books.

Neutral, leaning towards +1.

EDIT: I recall you from AD13, and you were pretty chill there, too.

When the voice from the shadows calls you
When the wind whips past your ears
Will you stand when the weight is upon you
Or will you go to your knees in fear?

Was discussing with Seehund about you after watching you a bit, especially that forum situation, can only echo what he's saying.

I like you, you seem level headed for the position. I also haven't had any bad experiences with you personally, and only seen you as a notably good leader in game.

Big fat +1.

Noticing that your activity is increasing going up to +1

Though I still suggest getting to know the community.

P.S. Tablets are hard to type on.

I have been watching you, so far I like what I see. So I will approve this application as I'd like to see now how you will handle once you are in the hot seat as it were.

Welcome to the team. Hopefully you will be added to the system shortly.

+1 I've had a pretty interesting conversation with him on mChat and from that I have the impression that he is mature and handles himself in a dignified manner.
