Liam Gallagher - Moderator Application

Post by Liam Gallagher » 08 Sep 2016, 23:57

Byond ID: Liam Gallagher

Colonial Marines Character: Whiskey Newman

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Timezone: (UTC-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
20-30 depending on my workload for the week, possibly more on occasion or if I'm ever for some reason desperately needed.
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
None.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
If you mean pre-alpha then yes, I can recall a time when the m41s had m16 sprites, the L.O. was a job, and you could unload a shotgun in a matter of seconds. (In other words I've been here a long time)
What other servers do you play on?
Paradise. (Used to play on others but I haven't played them in months)
What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?
Paradise
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?
Nope.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
Nope
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
I can't say I have, I've been here so long that I wouldn't remember anyways.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)?
Paradise - happened many years back, if I can recall. Was my second round of ss13 so I really had no Idea what I was doing, ended up doing erg. (Funny enough, that ban is how I found Colonial Marines)
Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?
Yes.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
I'd first wait a few moment to determine if it was an accident or if it is being properly role-played out, if it persists or seems to suggest malicious intent I'd P.M. the player(s) (possibly freezing them and any others possibly involved first depending on how serious the situation is). I would then determine if their actions were a violation of server rules and then deal out the punishment. Depending on how they themselves handle the situation (such as cooperating, admitting fault, etc...), along with a quick evaluation of their past performance through usage of their notes (First offenders and what-not...), I'd be willing to show a bit of leniency (they would still get a ban though). Under those circumstances I'd ban them for a day or less, however, if they prove to be a real "shitter", and have past misconduct on their notes, I would consider a more serious ban, potentially escalating all the way up to perma if need be.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
I'd first check to see if there are any dead predators in-game (as they may have been the cause and could potentially save me a lot of time). Afterwards I'd immediately plug the hole and announce my doing so in an IC way. Then I'd check the logs and investigate whatever way I can to find the culprit. I'd immediately P.M. them and determine the reason behind it. If it is straight up grief they're getting the hammer, if it was an "accident" I'd warn the player not to do so again or they will be treated as a griefer. If I find in their notes that they have a history of "accidently" doing this kind of thing I'd skip the warning and go straight to the punishment. I'd most likely give them a 3 day ban unless some substantiating evidence or reason comes up.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
If I receive it by P.M., I'd inform the player that I lack the power alone as a moderator to do so and even then this is not the way to do it. If it is done IC I'd send a "Mother" announcement that basically tell the marines to get of their asses and do their damn job.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
P.M. Marine, inform him he has griefed and that a ban is incoming, give him a few minutes to defend himself whilst I track down the researcher. Once I've dealt with the grunt, I'd turn my attention to the Researcher. I'd inform him of the events that have occurred, state that the grenade was his responsibility and he will face the consequences of this (if there are going to be any), if it was completely unintended and he has few incidents on his record I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. At most he would get a temporary job-ban. However, if the situation would suggest otherwise, he would most likely face a perma job-ban and potentially an actual ban.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
I'm a pretty level headed person, so normally I'd just ignore it if directed at me through a P.M. However, it would be my duty to set the example that this sort of response is unjustifiable and a misuse of ahelp. If he persists I'd remove ahelp privileges.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
I'd P.M. him his mistake and tell him he needs to change it in the menu before next round. If possible I'd get an admin to change his name. If they refuse to change it next round I'd P.M. them to remind them. Should they persist to disobey this request, I would consider a few hour ban.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I'd inform the marine that although this may be true, his requested exemption of the rules would nullify their value, thus causing harm to the server. I'd again tell him to change it and tell them they're obligated as a member of this server to know all the rules.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
I'd inform him he was out-stepping his roles capabilities and violating our rules. I would warn him and tell him to return to medical immediately without the rifle to perform his duties, otherwise he will be receiving a job-ban and potentially a sever ban for intentionally disobeying an order from staff.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
P.M. him that this is against the rules and he cannot continue. I would allow him to finish or use one of the magical moderator commands to fix his patient (can't leave him dying, ruin the game for him). If the Medic continues to perform surgery I would have him Job-banned.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
Mother scan to show that the marines have the upper-hand, if they still refuse I would try to have a Xeno death squad sent (or something along those lines).

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
Immediately apply the 3 hour ban. If it was a mistake they can take it to the forums and appeal, chances are I'll be waiting for it.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
Nothing, unless they continue to harass marines in this manner or someone has submitted a complaint, after which I'd P.M. them to cease doing so.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
Congratulate him for his robustness. P.M. him and the victim. Ask them if this was planned and properly rped. If it was, it is up to the MPs, if not 1 day ban.

Any additional information you'd like to add?
Calling it now, someone is going to mention this is my 4th post on the forums. Yes, you are correct, I haven't had a large presence on the forums but I've been more than noticeable on the actual server (at least in my opinion), I've been here since the early days and hope to stay her for many more. Point is, I'm pretty devoted to this game and I hope my lack of forum activity won't negatively impact me, this server has given me a lot of enjoyment over the years and I would be more than happy to give something back to it. Thank you for your time and effort while considering my application, I'll be awaiting your response.

I actually like most of your responces. The researcher part is the only minor issue. You would have to figure out the intentions of the researcher. If they were not aware of th marines intentions then they wouldn't really know what was going on. But other then that I'll wait a bit to see what some of my staff say about you. As well as the rest of the community. Due to our low numbers your forum activity won't be an issue.
