Jay Burn's Mod app

Post by Jay Burns » 30 Sep 2016, 16:36

Byond ID:Jay Burns

Colonial Marines Character:Jay 'Xeno' Burns

Age:16

Gender:Male

Timezone:0+ GMT

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
it fluctuates but around 20-40
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
i have spent waaayyy too long as Gmod staff.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
no
What other servers do you play on?
Mostly CM, but occasionally Paradise.
What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?
Paradise that's about it
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?
As moderator no, but i have a denied predator app
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
not at this point in time.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
No.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)?
nope.
Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?
Yes.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
So I would Pm the guy to ask why he is firing, If he is firing into fellow marines I would freeze/sleep him, if he is just shooting his weapon and not hitting anyone then I would just tell him to stop and maybe add a note, if he is firing upon his fellow marines as I said, i would sleep him then ask why and is he/she new, if they say yes then I would give em a day ban, to read the rules and such, but if they have a past of griefing I would ban them for seven days and issue a perma request. If there are other staff online i would ask for advice as well.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
I would use the patch verb(forgot which one it is but I know there is one) and check to see if it was done purposely, if it keeps happening or a Xeno keeps melting walls to outer space, I would issue an appropriate temp ban and give a note.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
Either say no and wait for the automatic mother report or just make a manual one saying man up marines and give an approximate number of Xenos to humans maybe skew the numbers a bit to make it a bit fairer on the Xenos, Also I don't think mods can give out nuke codes.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
Well firstly i would PM the marine to ask if it was an accident or not, then administer an appropriate punishment, so if the marine has some griefy notes then i would be a bit harsher, but if it was genuinely an accident then that would be alright, then I would talk with the researcher saying something along the lines of "be careful who you hand grenades too, make sure to give them to Spc or someone in authority."

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
not react and keep marking no response, if the person keeps doing it, then I will just say "Dude stop if you keep going I'm gonna have to give you a note." and that would be that.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
Check to see if the person has notes about their name, if the suspect doesn't then I would tell him/her to change their name next round and add a note.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no-one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
Well, I would tell em to read the rules, specifically pointing them to rule 2 for the marines, also I would make sure they changed it next round and if they don't I would issue a 300-minute ban and add a note.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
Tell em to drop the gun and get back to medbay, if the person keeps running about or ignored me, I would issue a temp job ban for doctor, and leave a link to the rule pointing them to the CMO/doctors section

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Tell him to finish the surgery then say that he shouldn't be performing surgery as a medic and issue a note, if I see the person doing surgery again I would give a 1-day medic ban.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
So I would wait for the automatic mother report, if that doesn't make the marines attack and they continue to turtle, I would make a mother report, maybe do a Lil time limit thing, so like "if you don't eliminate the Xeno threat then you will be considered rogue" and maybe send in IB or PMCs as punishment.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
3 hour ban for EORG and a note.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
do nothing, possibly laugh, but if it keeps happening like at the RO line, I might make a mother report saying for MPs to arrest the guy causing a disturbance.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
I would talk to both parties, if it was agreed then I not issue any punishments, unlikely I know, but if it was a spur of the moment thing, i would give him a note for improper escalation and a 12-hour ban to read the rules.

Any additional information you'd like to add? nope.

Not all of your answers were directly specific to the staff procedures and guidelines (i.e. following the rules the way they're written and giving the exact punishment prescribed), but hell, I see them more as guidelines than anything. When you're making an app, just play the game and write what the book tells you to write.

However, I like your answers; they're a realistic portrayal of what a good staff member would do, plus you're highly active and a great mentor (even though mentors are half-breeds).

I have a couple issues with some of your answers here and there, but it's nothing you wouldn't learn easily during trial. You were one of my favorite of the prospective new hires, and you have so far been an exemplary staff member.

+1 from me, really helpful guy and is on often. Disagree with a few of his answers but typically they are things that you just learn as a trial moderator, give my full support.
