Colonial Marines Character:Barry Flynn

Age:21

Gender:Male

Timezone:Pacific

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?

Around 15 hours at the low end (ie major papers/test coming up might cause a disruption in moderation time) but probably higher than that.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?

Yes, M&B: NW (38e was the reg I was in), at their peak we were around 100 players strong (basically we took up a single side in a lb but this off topic). As a staff member (technically named an officer/nco) for the reg, we were to watch one of our two servers (siege (this one was always a pain to watch) or commander battle) for about 2 hours per week, maybe more when we did recruitment drives. Then we joined events like bidaily or tridaily (I don't remember anymore) which basically ran for around 2 hours with us doing 30 mins to an hour of training to prep for.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
Nope

What other servers do you play on?

Paradise (haven't played on it for about year) & one of the fallout servers (but that was like a flavor of the week kind of thing that really became stale quickly)

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?

Paradise & one of the fallout servers

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?

Technically no, but I'm mentor so I did pm Feweh when he asked the community if anyone wanted this gig.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?

Well I'm a mentor for CM, so that counts and that would be it.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?

Don't believe so, and I from what I can see I don't have any notes that would signify I have been, so no I guess.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server?

If so, where and When (roughly)? Don't believe so, but my memory is really bad

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?

One of the 4 people currently online on the staff slack (at the moment of writing this), so I’m semifamilar with it

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.

This is an interesting question since this would really depend on the severity of the situation. No matter how severe it was, I would at least pm the accused player to be a tad more careful & check his notes for anything similar (and if I notice he is new to the server, I might send in a mentor to watch over him and show him the ropes), if he shot a single player with no malicious intent (this implies I did ask both parties on what occurred and check logs (if available), I would class it as an IC issue since it was clearly an accident and add a note of the event but I will make it clear at least with the investigation it was an accident and whatnot. If there is malicious intent found well I will see if there is any lead up for proper escalation, if not found, I will give them a warning and possibly a 3-hour ban based on severity of the incident and how they respond to the situation.
If the player is just on mass shooting spree with very little said (involving several injured marines in this incident), I will sleep him, pm to figure out why he did such things, and based on how what he says could very big difference between a warning with banned attached to a straight perma (which will be place via a 7-day ban and filing a perma request in the staff section)

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.

The first priority would be fixing the breach. The second would be trying to find the culprit to this breach and provide them a warning and to remind them of rule 15 and make a note of the incident. The third (minor step) would be to thank the person who provided me with the information of the breach since that is a very big help.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.

Inform the person who sent this ahelp, this would require a head on the server but even if there was a head on in such circumstances it is unlikely to be used at all. In order to help move the round along, I would possibly write a mother report to illustrate the current state of the round and how simple it would be to push.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.

I guess the first step would be me login into this mess and checking unanswered ahelps. After that I would pm all parties involved ie (the marine, researcher, and any workers of logistics to provide context to the situation), check the server logs, check the notes of the marine who threw the nade and determine if there was a valid reason to doing so (and no because the RO didn’t give me attachments is not a valid reason…), if none is found (which is likely) I would issue him a warning and at worst a 3-hour ban to reread the rules (and make sure to note the incident and note the 3-hours would be if there was no prior history, if there was any prior history I would likely bump up the ban with ban time progression). I would PM the researcher to be more careful on who they give their precious grenades to. Again going to state this a lot it seems but depending on the severity of the situation and how it was classed anyone harmed during the incident would likely not be healed since I would label it as an IC incident but if it was classed as mass grief, all affected injured parties would be healed and I would apologize for the inconvenience of this incident

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.

Depending on how graphic they make it, it could possibly end up as erp but its most likely be rather tame, so I would inform said player that they shouldn’t abuse ahelps and if they continue with down this road, they will have their ahelp privileges removed for the round. Also make sure to note this incident… (I’m probably to repeat this a lot)

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.

Check his notes to be sure he wasn’t called out on it prior, if not, I would pm him and inform him that he is violating our naming rules and he should change his name next round. Make sure to add a note with the unacceptable name included, check who is currently on the server if there are any admins and if there are, ask an admin kindly to give the said player a random name for the round (if they have the time) and give the player another pm to remind them that the random name will not stick so be sure to change it for next round. If I really want to be on top of this, I would wait until the round ends and the next round is prepping and send them a reminder since people sometimes forget but this is probably being rare since rounds can be quite chaotic at times.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

I would inform them, if they disagree with my decision they can post a complaint here: http://cm-ss13.com/viewforum.php?f=118 and to have a nice day since PMs is not the place to have an argument. This is where I would cut communications with this player but if they do insist I would mute their ahelp privileges for the round to shimmer down.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.

I would inform the doctor to drop the rifle and remind him of his job and possibly how his compatriot is in need of assistance. If he continues at trying to be a marine, I would jobban him from medical and inform him about staff complaints and where can appeal this ban.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Check his notes, and act upon those, if there is no prior history, I would pm the player and inform him of the no surgery rule for medics and give him a warning and a note then cut communications there.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

Like I said in the nuke question, I would probably send a mother report of the xeno numbers, which could possibly help push the marines to attack.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.

3-hour ban with no warning. If there are too many I would delay the restart to scoop up any remaining offenders of this rule break

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.

Check his notes, if there is nothing, I would inform them of the no griefing/ not being dick rule and probably cease their actions. Add a note and move along

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

Sounding like a broken record by now but I would check his notes, if there is no prior history, I would inform Player A (the one who improperly shot a fellow marine) of the lethal force rule and inform him on where he went wrong and hopefully he will learn from his mistake but I will add a note to him and SM an mp something like “you hear shots coming -insert cardinal direction here-“ and let this be handled IC

Any additional information you'd like to add?
Sorry for any spelling/ grammatical mistakes, this was written in middle of the night on a caffeine high since college *woo*
