Gentlemanly Headcrab - Moderator Application

Post by Gentlemanly_headcrab » 05 Nov 2016, 21:03

Byond ID: Gentlemanly Headcrab

Colonial Marines Character: Akemi Ikeda, Ka'Torag-na Vor'mekta

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Timezone: EST

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?

5, depending on the day.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?

I was a Mentor on Paradise Station, and an Admin on Lemonpunch a Hl2RP server on GMOD that was eventually disbanded after the head-min stole money and it tore itself apart.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?

I played the Alpha.

What other servers do you play on?

I rarely play other servers as regular ss13 has gotten stale for me. But it'd be Paradise.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?

Paradise.
Yogstation.
(That one Warhammer40k server that went down.) Archangel.

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?

I've submitted a predator app previously.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?

In a strange turn of events, I'm still technically a mentor on Paradise, I submitted my resignation and chatted with staff on discord approximately 3 months ago yet I have never been removed from the server or forums technically. I discussed it with Rahlzel and it shouldn't be too much of an Issue.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?

No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)?

No.

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?

Yes.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.

If it is not hitting anyone, is not griefing anything nearby, and is all for an IC reason I see no reason to intervene, let the MP's sort it out. However if the player is grabbing the weapon and immediately unloading in briefing freezing the player will be placed, followed by a PM to allow the player to explain their self, check the notes and depending on previous notes and the new notes added. Apply a new note, ban/perma-ban request.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.

If it is a griefing breach then I will fill it (if my moderater powers allow me, still not sure what the powers are.) However, if it is for an IC reason like the SM exploding, marine stupidity with explosives (in a non-griefing way), or a predator on the ship, I shall let the MT's and CE handle it.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.

If the marines are requesting it, I shall ask a head-staff as I am unable to give them out.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.

PM the marine and investigate the situation, then PM anyone caught in the blast. Check the Napalm throwers history and the history of the researcher, depending on the reason and if anyone was caught in the blast move from there to possible bans on a griefing charge. The researcher will have to be investigated into more whether he knew that it would be used lethally, depending on the situation and the severity of the damage caused by the grenade, either a warning or a job-ban. Applying notes to both.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.

Calmly request the player stop using Ahelp for unserious reasons. If it continues, kick or mute may be placed depending if it continues.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.

Warn the marine to not use that name and switch it after the round is over, send a second PM to what they would like to be re-named too. If it is sensible and allowed switch it. If it is another meme name forcefully change it to something else.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

Send them the full rule quote over and ask them kindly to review the rules against as there might've been a change that had gone un-noticed. Again, switch the name if possible.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.

PM the doctor and ask what they are doing and to drop the rifle, if they refuse and continue to run around ignoring wounded apply a note and job-ban.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

PM the medic and tell them to end the immediate surgery, warn them and request they read the rules. If it continues and they do another surgery, add a note, ban and request a job-ban at the time.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

Send the marines a Mother report that the 'Lizards' are on very limited numbers and that the marines will push or pay will be docked.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.

Immediate 3-hour ban. Notes and all.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.

As long as it does not create long-lasting injuries I don't believe it's worthy of a ban or kick. However, if it's a continued thing and is causing issues a PM warning may be issued. Otherwise, let the MP's deal with a soap slipper.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

PM both marines and ask if it was a consensual fight that would evolve into a gunfight, if not, check how each player went about it. If the punch led to immediate gunfire and death of the fight-fighting marine. Then it's grief, however, if there was an RP-lead or RP-situation that lead up to it and both consented to a fight then it is allowed. (Punching is technically lethal but not as lethal as gunfire so using lethal force back against the person via punching is a very iffy issue.)

Any additional information you'd like to add?

I've been with the server a long while, since Alpha really, and this has been one of the servers I've enjoyed. I've gotten a predator, a (moderately) recognized marine, a spot on the hall of fame, and I wanna give back I guess. Help the admins especially on those low-pop low-admin nights and make this server a bit better in the old gentlemanly way. (Holy crap that sounded corny, but true.)

Definite +1

Was a more than competent mentor on Paradise and his answers are pretty solid. Ingame wise is a gud player.
Also is an active Predator which shows he's quite competent.

Alright, first out with the bad: You really need to read over the policies the administration needs to follow when dealing with rule breaks; your mind is in the right place, but ya need to be following protocol a little more closely.
For instance, the first question.
If a player is firing into briefing, even if they're not hitting anyone, it's still heavily breaking roleplay. I can totally understand where your mind is at, letting it be an IC situation and trying to keep intervention as far as you can; however, while not grief, this is not acceptable roleplay and should be dealt with by a staff member.

I think you are honestly the cream of the crop when it comes to our playerbase, you get my full +1 in spite of the application having some shaky answers. Through your actions on the server you've demonstrated that you are considerate for other players without needing to be monitored, and you clearly care to make other player's rounds better. Any problems we have with your methods as a new potential mod can be buffed out during your trial period. I hope to see you get accepted.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

I am willing to give out a +1 of support due to previous experiences with you on the server.

On your answers, just a few minor notes:
-6 & 6a: You might want to check if this is also a repeated and noted offense of coming in with a improper name. If it is repeated you might want give a round (3 hour) ban.

-3: Extremely minor thing, we just never give out nuke codes. It is typically the Heads' initiative to give out the nuke codes.

The rest are things you just learn on the job and are extremely minor. Good luck!

Everything said above is correct. Some of your answers are shaky, and you could probably use a good look over of both staff protocols and the rules.

Also said above was that you are an absolutely exemplary member of the player base. Nothing you yourself state is something that we cannot teach you and guide you with along the way. I would be more than happy to have you on our mod team.

+1, good player IC and OOC.

Only criticism I would have is over the "Sulaco Breach" question. In my opinion, is that you should have made a MOTHER report informing the crew about the breach while getting the headstaff.

No problems with it on my side. All answers to the situations are perfectly reasonable, he's an active player and Predator, a role which holds similar, though smaller power than staff do, and a good one at that.

I think he can handle the position.

He's active in the community, is up with current events, and answered a lot of the questions the best you can without prior staff experience (stuff like changing names and the nuke codes.) Furthermore for most of his questions he didn't neglect checking and applying notes so that mods and admins in the future can better do their job. Also, he's a predator and has in turn had experiences with a lot of our staff, meaning that most of the people that he'll be working with he'll have already met and interacted with (at least IC), so there won't be any "personality clashing" issues, or whatever you'd call it.

I'm not sure if I should say something here.

I mean, jeesh, I came a long way with this server first I started out as a dipshit marine on Alpha who couldn't pick up a gun and didn't know the aspect of a 'rule' and almost (insert long time here) I've gotten a place in the hall of fame, I've applied and gotten a predator, now I've made it into the staff team. I'll start packing my stuff.
