Alkysine, sort of prevents brain surgery

Post by TheSpoonyCroy » 20 Mar 2016, 11:48

Bug Description:Ok the title seems to give this away but you might think it is redundant but I know from time to time Alkysine just stop working ie Brain damage staying at 10 for about 10 minute span even after being injected with about 20u of alk (which is overkill I have to admit). So at that point surgery is the only option but as long as Alk is in the person's system, you can perform Brain surgery but no effect occurs (even though there is an action log for it like it being you removed all the bone chips in the brain). The only fix I know about is removing said Alk either with carbon or dialysis via sleeper. Alk not working is only going to happen rarely but I think the idea stays the same, if alkysine is in someone system during brain surgery, it prevents the brain surgery from working properly. I do however wonder if affects Peridaxon as well with internal organ surgery (I'll probably test that later and edit it in)

Steps to reproduce:
1. Well find a marine with brain damage (not very hard.... with FF and xenos slashing the face)
2. Inject them with Alkysine
3. Perform brain surgery on said marine

Actually I think Peridaxon actually heals the brain in that case, having compared a prior scan to a newer one for a patient., but there's two version of brain surgery. One with a trauma patch going with internal organ surgery to get both normal biological eyes alongside brain mended, other is standard by tools. However Alkysine from what I've noticed on the server here, only affects genetic brain damage occurring from cloning, not physical from personal experience.

I think they removed the trauma kit brain surgery recently. Since the admins thought it was more didn't make sense to have eye/brain surgery and have a trauma kit takes away the need for those two. So they made it not work for brains anymore making surgeons jobs a little more time consuming

You can use Peridaxon as a quick fix for brain/eye damage without having to resort to surgery. Alkysine may be bugged, unsure.

If you have certain amount of brain damage, it stops working

Ok bringing this back up since still an issue I see people face, because some people put it into their cyromixes. Honestly alk is only for genetic brain damage (which is rare), I purpose it removed completely since this is a bug that is quite harmful since it just wastes doctor's time because it creates infinite bone chips. Also people don't believe me when I say alk is probably one of the worst drug in the game since it serves no real purpose and at worst hinders people due to this bug

Think I've run across this bug a few times. I guess I never put two and two together. I have to say, I have yet to see a single case in which alkysine fixed the problem since 99% of brain damage on this server is from skull fractures.

Alkysine either doesn't really do much, or do THIS bug. Peridaxon also does NOT serve as permanent brain fix, the brain damage comes back after a while. could probably mean that Peri + Alkysine would work to stop it, though - Peri heals, Alky to freeze it, maybe?
Careless, as usual.

Because peridaxon can't heal bone chips :)

I remember reading somewhere that Alkysine is for genetic brain damage and Peridaxon is for other damage. I'll update the wiki.

Peridaxon will heal brain damage but as someone said before, it won't get those bone chips out.

Definitely think Alkysine should be improved to heal all forms of brain damage (though yes, you'll have to remove bone chips manually) just like Imidazoline unconditionally heals eye damage.

Having looked at the drug's effects per Baycode, it's hard to see how this would result in complications since it only reduces brain damage (without any apparent limit) and acts as a minor pain killer; was this drug in any way changed for CM?

Don't believe so, from what I seen this is a direct issue with baycode somehow since I remember this exact bug on Paradise which is also a derivative of baycode (of course this was before they did that huge revamp to chemistry, like a year back). This is why I knew this was an issue, since I have ran into it for some time and people don't notice it

If that's true then the root of the bug would probably be with brain damage, and how that factors/interacts with surgery.
