+1 I support the NV scope for it actually makes sense. It would help with Fob defence or the sniper positions, for instance catching a ravager sneaking behind, thanks to meson you can't see it, until it's too late. Frustrating waiting for marines to give light then you can't make the damn show thanks to marines. Anti FF sniper be nice als, multiple FFS due to firing then all of a sudden a Marine runs as you fired your sniper.

Long time ago, I, Ka'Torag-na Halkrath, Skilled Master Hunter Of Prey, Unleashed an unspeakable evil upon Xenos and Humans! But a foolish Xeno Hunter wielder of robustness stepped forth and opposed me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore a gate of Salt of Solitude and flung em into the world of CM, and took out their Facehugger Capabilities! Now, this Xeno Fool seeks to return the favour, and undo my evil reign and of many other predator predecessors!

I think the sniper has a NV scope in the lore. Why not +1

+1 to something, anything for the sniper

I'm not much for sniper rifles in general, but every once and a while I get the itch to play a round and it's been a clusterfuck each time. As it stands, I just don't use it ever, and I'm the guy that'll rotate between all the other spec loadouts with no problem.

Adding NV would make it worthwhile pick because you could skirt the battle without getting jumped with an almost 100% certainty rate. Basically you'd be the guy defending the flanks as you'd spot aliens coming in from the unlit sides of a big push. Which is cool.

Also no more fucking with flares, hell yeah. I spend 3/4 of a sniper round doing the flare shuffle and it blows.

I still like the idea of making the sniper a hitscan weapon(with FF) so you can potentially fire through a crowd without worry about people blundering into your bullets after they've already left the barrel. I can't even begin to count the times that I've shot the M42 only to have a Marine run 4-6 tiles to the side while the bullet is in flight and take one in the back. That's the more 'assault sniper' option I guess. I don't even know if hitscan is a thing though. For all I know it's not.

I want the removal of FF when scoped in, but if that's never going to happen I'll take this instead as measly reparations.

Nah man, a lot of the devs are on board, and have said it's possible pending support: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=7917#p84405

I support the suggestion, at least those marines dancing in front of me wont get shot. Because its annoying when you scope and shoot Spitters as well as other Xenos far away. Yet when Marines start dancing in front of you, you shoot them on accident which truly is annoying. +1

I personally think it should have a compromise between my proposal and this one:

Sniper rifle ignores FF, but only while zoomed in, and features an NV scope.

Sur's compromise seems like a wonderful idea. I hope we're not asking for too much though :P

-1, mesons without green overlay are more than enough. The only thing better is full x-ray, but that's too damn OP.

Having visibility won't make a gun op .You have visibility on normal gun and they aren't op plus a sniper that can't see far is useless

NV is much better than useless mesons, and NV isn't x-ray.

Thats would be actually neat to implement. Make scout specialist and actual scout who can see aliens undetected from greater range then ordinary marine do.
Just maybe add some power consumption to it?

Night vision is everything man. A snipers two concerns are light and terrain. With a NV scope or eye-wear a sniper would clearly be able to see a target in the stealth darkness. With all the alien buffs, I believe this would be a nice little buff to the marines, not too OP, yet not horseshit useless. Right in the middle.

Take note the ONLY spec I play is sniper, so please believe me when I say this is /needed/. +1

I play sniper every time I go spec, if just in the hopes its been made a little better. The meson, while it was a neat way of trying to give the sniper a unique way of looking long distances, the problem is its haphazard, constantly depending your vision on the lighting around you means your often loosing sight of things as flares go out or lights are destroyed. NV just makes sense, rp, lore and balance wise. ((Though would it kill people to let us at least use our scope while under cammo so we can scout and recon))

Mesons just makes being a sniper harder, in my opinion. They lack any form of advantages besides seeing walls and shit. +1 for NVGs.

In the past I would have -1 this, but seeing as how the updated sniper pales in comparison to most other spec weapons.. and given that Marksman Rifles can be used by standards anyway.. Sniper specs need some advantage to stay relevant.

+1 for NVG snipers

This might be doable. It'll have to be discussed.

Snipers have a long reload time. Anywhere murderer isn't true. They have 15 shots in the sniper and 3 extra magazines. One shot doesn't tend to be enough to outright kill an alien and so they tend to have enough time to run off. The only ones that would have issues with the sniper are the boiler and praetorian due to their speed... and that's good since snipers traditionally are meant to take out important, flashy targets. However, as it is now, I've been alongside a second sniper and to kill a spitter it took us a total of four shots. This spitter, for some reason wasn't moving much or, with our long delay to fire a second shot, could've very easily ran off. Alternatively, just let it avoid FF instead of giving it NV. But one or the other needs to be given, I'd personally prefer lack of FF when scoping over NV.

Current sniper is meh, better replace it with dat Antimaterial Rifle you tested sometimes or exotic alternative - powered crossbow (with scope).
AT rifle is pretty much one shot killer but knock you down without table\barricade nearby, crossbow can pin down xeno to wall.

I would prefer if snipers were simply made unable to miss or be deflected as a solution to snipers being one of the worst uses for a coin barring b18
That said, +1 for attempting to make snipers more usable and less 'I want to be useless but not b18 useless'

+1, mesons non-canon thing anyway, but NVS canonically released in AVP2010 and in byond CM for smartguners already, so whats the point to cry about 'OP' sniper rifle if !just! four specs can get it and who cant reproduce themselves like dozens of boilers and get more then six rifles per one map.

So, sniper.

Played sniper recently as the marksman, didn't end well.
Fob was assaulted and there were boilers taking pot shots at us.
Since I was the sniper, my job was to make sure they don't shoot.

One bullet was enough to injure them.

Walked away fine and shrugged it off.

Then before the assault I had marines in front of me.
Was tough getting any shot in without FF.

The xenos started slashing floodlights and then the flares burned out. was limited to the dead and the boilers as a light source.

Charger came crashing down.
Ended my time on the surface and back to the Sulaco.

I didn't get many good sniper shots in.

Recoil was, well recoil. Couldn't fire fast enough but that's a given.

The tarp wasn't really useful as it didn't provide much overwatch or cover as I had hardly any time to use it nor could I shoot out of it.

Ammo was not much of a problem when I used it, fired 7 rounds, never a good shot to hit anyone.

It seriously needs a buff in fighting but I haven't used recon yet so I don't know about that class.
George S.Patton once said:No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making some other poor dumb bastard die for his country.

I don't like cute things.

Good hunting.
