One-click machete scabbard

Post by Coldflame » 09 Oct 2016, 15:52

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): When a machete scabbard is clicked the machete is immediately drawn rather than it being a one-slot container

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Machete is significantly less clunky to use

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Not particularly complicated- rather than a container, the scabbard would instead put the machete in your hand when clicked.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Code change- not sure how complex this would be to get working, but it would make the machete significantly more viable and enjoyable to use.

Neutral, I'm fairly certain the machete was intended to be clunky and inconvienent. A weapon that wouldn't see too much use because of the slots you'd be required to sacrafice.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Its supposed to be inconvenient but its not like you're unzipping a backpack. Its a sheathe.

The boots actually delete and respawn them. It's pretty horrible for efficiency.

These things are meant to be a slight inconvenience. Machetes had an increase in number, so they're a little easier to obtain. Fair trade.

I'm going to sticky this for further discussion, as it is potentially possible to do that, without having to delete the machete by simply moving the machete "inside" the scabbard.

if you decide overhaul them make boot-knives do the non delete thing. As for balance fumbling around with your inventory is a pain and should be reserved for stuff a marine would reasonably be fumbling for like ammo clips. Ditching the ammo belt or backpack massively limits what you can do (flares/large quantity of ammo/tools). One click over 2 is not such a big deal compared to that.

Melee for marines will generally end in alien victory since they can tackle, spit spam, or pounce. Boot knives are useful since you can click it once and start with stabbing it immediately which makes it better than machete already since you have to click twice in order to be able to use it.

You already sacrifice slots on something that you'll die using. At least let marines be able to draw it then die.
Troublesome, as usual.

I'm no expert on the finer points of backpacks and scabbards and so on, but wouldn't drawing a machete be a fairly fluid motion? Like Gentlefood said, it's a sheath not a backpack, so I don't really see the need to make it particularly difficult to draw.

I'd also vote the same for the SMG belt unless it was changed to stock an extra magazine, but that's for another thread.

So +1 from me.

I think all one-item holsters should be one-click to draw. The point of a holster is to have it be easily-accessible. Might as well change boot holsters and shoulder holsters if the logic is intentional clunkiness.

-1, it's a MACHETE, it takes a lot of training and skill to one-draw a sword like that.

+1. Machetes are already a niche, so it wouldn't be bad to buff them a bit.

If a marine chose the machete as a weapon, we can assume he has trained with it. The same reason marines know how to use a sniper/flamethrower/etc. We can assume they are skilled with their equipment of choice.

if its equipment given to the USCM,chances are almost all units are gonna be trained on how to use it efficently and would all have many hours practicing with em whilst waiting for stuff to happen

I agree with this. The marines are trained in this sort of thing and this equipment is available to them. All one slot holsters should be a single click to draw/undraw.

Could the code from the shoulder holster be copied for this? The one that attaches to uniforms.

Well we need some scabbards to be faster or what is the reason for them if we cant even use them fast? Shotgun scabbard for example.. whats the use? Its better to have shotty in suit slot with harness.

+1 Either way, they should be consistent. Drawing a revolver in one fluid motion out of a holster without shooting yourself in the foot is actually difficult. I don't really get the argument of leaving it as-is, because it's "supposed to be difficult and clunky". We don't really need the Byond UI to be any more complicated than it already is, and it's something that's better simulated in other ways, such as perhaps a delay, or needing to be wielded.

Either way, I don't really see any reason for all scabbards and holsters to not be consistent.

Literally after the nerf of the Machete, I'm pretty sure this would make it balanced.

+1, you rarely see marines using the machete and when they do, it's quite annoying to have the menu up to pull it out instead of clicking once on the scabbard.

+1 It makes sense and since the machete is unpopular as is, it wouldn't be an OP change. Also I read somewhere on here that marines require "training" in order to pull a machete out of a holster in one motion, provided the marines in question have arms I'm fairly certain they should be up to the task.

Great idea. Make it so for all holsters because having to bother sheathing/unsheathing shotgun and smg is bothersome especially because you need to click item/holster, you cant just click the empty space to put in/remove the item. Theres a revolver holster on baycode which is gives action button and actually perserves revolver ammo

A potential issue I see with this is with putting the machete away. The scabbard is actually very thin and hard to click on, so if you're trying to panic put it away, you're gonna have a bad time.

I almost prefer it like it is now, I just keep the box open and my mouse on the machete.
