Lewis Calhoun

Post by Redfield5 » 19 Feb 2015, 20:02

FULL NAME - Lewis Eugene Calhoun (Calhoun to all those except his friends).

NICKNAME(S) - Lew, Lewie.

AGE - 34.

BIRTH DATE - March 7th.

GENDER - Gentleman.

POSITION - Rifleman; formerly a Squad Leader.

NOTABLE TRAITS -Vulgarity. He overuses profanity to the extent that a 15-word sentence will contain 12 curse words. No subject is taboo, and he is more than willing to voice his opinion. When in the field however, many can testify that he is an able combatant, keeping his cool during even the most stressful of scenarios, albeit supported by obscene gestures, cursing, dark humor, insults, and threats. He's not always the best people person, but expect his utmost honesty. If you look past his vulgarity and profanity, he is truly an experienced, intelligent human being.Upon first meeting the man, it's clear that his favor is not given lightly, though he is not overly hostile (at first). He generally gives off a relaxed air, willing to incite conversation with others but giving only a few terse words to those that he deems worthy of such an insult. He has an underlying fear of connecting deeply with people, as the sadness associated with the loss of friends is one that will never subside or grow dull in its sharpness, its intensity. He has few - if any - close friends, and even those that have served with him before note that he can be quite standoffish on certain subjects.

He absolutely abhors being called by his first name, middle name, or nicknames by people that he does not trust fully. He views the principle of a first-name basis between mutually trusted individuals as sacrosanct, and those people who have not worked with him for a considerable amount of time should keep things on a professional basis when speaking with him.

PERSONA - Lewis is a product of 16 years of USCM service, seeing conflict in various locales throughout the universe and forced to be a witness of countless horrors that no human should ever witness. He is a realist, and he tends to keep his optimism and his pessimism in balance for the most part. He has a firm grasp on the psychological aspect of war, able to interpret the tactical and symbolic importance of any action, whether it be a May Day parade, a massacre, or an MP pounding on his riot shield with his baton. He's not easily disturbed by carnage or violence, due to the nature of his career.

ETHNICITY - American.

NATIONALITY - American.

VOICE (LINK A YOUTUBE LINK OF A FILM CHARACTER OR SOMEONE SPEAKING, WHICH WILL GIVE US A GENERAL IDEA OF WHAT YOU THINK YOUR CHARACTER SOUNDS LIKE) -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTyJ3QruoaM -> Sergeant Barnes (Tom Berenger/Guy with the wicked scars and the Jack Daniels).

HISTORY - Despite his current career in life, Lewis did not come from a bad background, as most civilians assume that all Marines come from abusive households. His parents were engineers whose chosen career path had ensured that they would never stay in the same place for long. He was born in the megatropolis of Charlotte, North Carolina, but Weyland-Yutani dispatched the Calhouns to remote colonies, assisting the colonists in the application of mining operations. Although he never lost a parent, he was exposed to a pirate raid at the age of 9, which was the first time that he had watched a man die. From that point on, his views on life were less than idealistic, as even the young boy realized what life in the universe was really like. As a student, he excelled in history and sociology, but he faltered at mathematics and science.

After high school, Lewis found himself enlisting in the Colonial Marines, seeking to continue to traveling lifestyle that he was accustomed to. Travel he did, to all sorts of wonderful places, killing wonderful people and things. His first 4 years were spent with the fleet, the tours of which consisted mainly of inter-planetary dick-waving, colonial security, anti-piracy ops, and the like, with Klendathu as the "outlier." He enjoyed the adrenaline rush of combat, as the shootouts weren't too prolonged, maybe the longest going on for 28 hours. They had heavy support against the outgunned rebels, pirates, and slavers they were fighting. At some point in these first 4 years, he experienced war at its purest form - unbridled chaos, confusion, and brutality. Klendathu was his first "real" assignment, in which he barely survived the onslaught of a population of carnivorous, aggressive bugs. It was here that he encountered Xur Dergins and Kelly Mason, who became two of his closest friends in the USCM. They all fought hard to save each other's asses, and they all made it home. While not as damaged by the battle as Kelly or Xur, he does recall Klendathu as an "eye-opener."

By the time that Angola rolled around, he was already considered to be a "battle-hardened" veteran, having been in the USCM for 10 years up to that point, and if you survived Klendathu, few people dared to give you shit. He was part of Task Force Assegai, which was sent in to put down a dangerously influential warlord's revolt in Southern Africa, the operation referred to as "Operation Meerkat." Vicious fighting in the African brush resulted when the Marines engaged the ever-swelling scores of radical nationalists, leading to long firefights in the grasslands, hours of long-range reconnaissance in the hills, and brutal close-quarters combat in the rain forest. Lewis was attached to a long-range commando outfit - codenamed "Hyena" - that conducted COIN operations throughout Angola during Meerkat. He saw a tremendous amount of violence in Angola, to put it mildly. He spent a week at the bottom of a 20-foot pit, after he was captured by insurgents during the conflict, barely clinging to the last vestiges of his miserable life when the HIT stormed the rebel camp.

Following the war, the Sergeant's conduct began to slip. He took to alcohol and drugs to null his pain, as his brain and mind cried out in pain over the turbulent events that Lewis had played witness to. He found himself facing many reprimands for the lapse in his good judgement, and he was sent back to the fleet, to serve out the rest of his career aboard the NMV Sulaco.

RELATIONS - The few people that he respects would have to be Kelly Mason, Joseph Nikolatz, Dolores Waits, Xur Dergens, Grant Smith, Rovern Solzaire, Dirk McSteelson, Mark Hanford, Richard Priston, and Mike Hernandez.

SEXUALITY - Heterosexual.

LOVE INTEREST - None at the moment. Unlikely to change. It is difficult for him to hop into a deep, intimate relationship, so expect hesitancy on his part if you've got your eye on him. It's not impossible to woo him, though.

BASIC APPEARANCE - https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/73 ... a8cafe.jpg

DISLIKES - Rambos, dicks, incompetence, holier-than-thou types, the Brass, Sergio Stone.

FEARS -He is terrified of getting spaced, having watched a man die as a result of rapid decompression as a child. This fear is followed up by claustrophobia, resulting from his captivity in Angola. However, his most prominent - and closeted - fear would have to be relationships. To put it in simple terms, he is afraid of losing people he cares about and he is very selective in forming relationships. If he loses a friend, expect him to be at his absolute worst.

LIKES - Alcohol in general, alternative humor, Liberty, Tajaran females, competence, front-line leadership, blunt honesty.

STRENGTHS
- He's a fearless grunt. Put a weapon in his hands, and he'll fight until he is on his back, bleeding out. He's brave under fire, and he is not above laying his life on the line for others. Leadership is another strong suit of his.

NUMBER OF YEARS SERVED - 16.

VIEWS ON THE SERVICE - He enjoys it well enough, but he understands that it is the only thing that he can truly excel at. He doesn't always see eye to eye with the brass, but when they point at something and give him the order to fire, don't expect hesitation.

SPECIALTIES TRAINED IN - He was trained as an Infantryman, though his long career has given him many opportunities to advance his specialties. He attended Jump School, and he received both static-line and free-fall jump training. His time in Angola had also dispatched him to attend Pathfinder School and SERE School, both of which he graduated from. He attended and graduated from the US Army Ranger School, in preparation for his recon role for Operation Meerkat.

Given the picture you linked, you might want to switch the Ethnicity from American to Caucasian/European. Being ethnically American means you are of Native American decent.

If he was Native American, I would have classified a tribe. Since Americans are ethnic mutts, wouldn't be easier to call them Americans?
