The sound of a well thumbed telephone's receiver moving.
“...”
“Yeah, no, I-... n-, I, okay listen, I only got one reference here okay?”
“No I-, yes I'm looking it up. That's my job.”
“...”
“I'm not stalling sir, you can hear me typing.”
“...”
The sound of typing, a roller chair moves over the cold concrete of bureaucracy.
“...”
“Right so I got an enlistment location, lemme just cross refer-”
“No sir I don't know where you enlisted”
“...”
“No sir. I'm not trying to entertain conversation by answering your questions.”
“No sir, I'm not trying to make myself your friend.”
A cabinet somewhere opens, the files are rifled through, the sound is muffled, distorted.
There is a pause, a folder is opened, a paper retrieved.
The voice on the line fades back into existence.
“Right so it looks like some Weyland red tape, the guy joined up through some transfer program, not much else I got here. There are a few documents being held back at the original enlistment location.”
“Again sir I don't know your enlistment loca-”
“...”
“Yeah I can get them to fax it.”
"And no there's no cooperation report on file."
The cabinet closes, roller wheels are given life again.
“Sorry, can you repeat that authentication co-...”
A few keys are pressed, a mouse clicks.
“...”
“I'll get them to mail the originals sir.”
“Have a pleasant d-”
“...”
“I'll make sure to have a nice day sir.”
The dial-tone emits a lonely buzz.
