About Facehuggers

Post by WD-Andrew » 14 Apr 2017, 13:01

So, I've seen a lot of marines dragging other marines' unconscious bodies when they have a facehugger on their face, even when they're out of danger.

When you see someone getting facehugged, REMOVE IMMEDIATELY the Facehugger. Quickly removing a Facehugger prevents the person from getting infected, thus saving them or preventing giving the doctors one more thing to worry about. Of course, you remove quickly the Facehugger when there aren't any aliens around. If there is, well, you wanna save your life first, right?

That's all I had to say.

[UPDATE]
WIth the new Facehugger update this guide isn't useful anymore. You can't remove the Facehugger. But, if you're quick enough, you can stab with your combat knife the facehugger on your face before it knocks you down, saving your life.

Alternatively, you can shake up a person with a facehugger on their face. If a person is conscious while having a facehugger on, they can knife or smash it off.

Granted, the major deciding factor in this is the competency and speed of the patient.

It's best to shake them up if time allows, so that you don't damage them.
"Memories can be vile. Repulsive little brutes, like children I suppose. But can we live without them? Memories are what our reason is based upon. If we can't face them, we deny reason itself! Although, why not? We aren't contractually tied down to rationality. There is no sanity clause. So when you find yourself locked down in an unpleasant train of thought, heading for the places in your past where the screaming is unbearable, remember: There's always madness. You can just step outside and close the door, and all those dreadful things that happened, you can lock them away. Madness... is an emergency exit."

Lately, shaking seems to be the way to go, and since you can shake WHILE you drag, it is quite useful sometimes.

That won't mean that pulling them off is no longer a thing, though. Sometimes shaking them takes too long, other times the person might panic and be uncertain as to what to do.. And then there are those cases when they are in too much pain TO do it. Never be afraid to pull it off if you must, because sometimes it is faster than trying to shake them up and less risky.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

I thought shaking a hugged marine was deemed bug abuse?

Nope, that was miscommunication from some of the admins and players. It's totally fine.

About facehuggers too: if they are lying on a ground near you, don't move and kill it. It will jump at you even if you walk away 1 tile. So the best tactics against xenos dropping huggers is just o not move and kill huggers when possible. If you are wearing helmet, even killing 1 hugger will save your life.

Since the huggers got changed, i don't think shaking up works anymore, it's a 20 second window until infection, even less. Removing them is the way to go now

They can't be removed, getting hugged is supposed to be a guaranteed infection now.

Seems only fair, but it does make infecting much more harder. Overall a very deserved nerf. I really do like it more this way, since you can distinguish that only the carrier will be throwing them around like madmans.

Yes, I'm aware of the update. This guide isn't useful anymore.
