Since you mentioned bolting doors open, in my opinion, its also a good idea to disable the environment in the APC of an area you control, which powers down the doors. That way you can just pry them with your crowbar to keep them open, saving you some time, and giving an ability to close and weld them shut very fast, if needed.
I generally like to keep the power on in the event I want to electrify a door or even manipulate it with signalers; gives me options, but this can be a timesaver for sure.

Added after a recent incident on Prison Station (and countless others on Big Red):

#6: Thou Shalt Mind Thy Flanks

Never forget to be wary of weak points in your defense; your defense is only as strong as its weakest link.

For example, Tcomms on Big Red which allows Xenos to flank typically far heavier defenses concentrated to the southeast of LZ1, or the bathroom bordering LZ1 on Prison Station which allows them to circumvent the layers of barricades in the hall approach. Be sure to check and reinforce these flanks as necessary.

Will be overhauling certain sections of the Engineering guide soon due to recent changes, most notably the sentry nerf and the buckshot nerf (it no longer reliably stuns T2s).

It seems probable that the new best engineer weapon will be a gyro/flamethower/BFA mag rifle with a bayonet, silencer or extended barrel.

Added:
  • If you have a gyro equipped weapon, try to have it in hand ready to be switched to and fired whenever possible; it always pays to be prepared.
  • You can use electrified vendors as impromptu traps/barricades; however be careful not to shock fellow marines. Especially effective when paired with mines hidden underneath the vendors and/or beside them (which might prompt the xeno retard to try to push the electrified vendor/machine to create a 'safe path'). Again, best paired with closet/coffin/bodybag ambush to finish off the stunned xeno.
  • Use glass panes salvaged from broken windows to act as a barrier protecting fellow marines from electrified grilles, airlocks and other objects where feasible.

Redid the weapon attachment loadouts/recommendations with the Utility PFC format for simplicity and ease of reference/use.

Added a picture of a push base/outpost as an example.

Added some pictures of push bases for reference.

Added mortar references; waiting on a wiki entry for them.

Added another tip, and additional notes to the miniflamer attachment, disclosing their handy ability to remotely detonate hidden grenades (and other explosives) as traps; also 'super mines'/explosives:

As stated earlier, you can remotely and safely detonate hidden grenade traps (and other explosives) with the miniflamer by catching it in the gout of fire; simply hide a grenade under crap as you would a mine, wait for a hapless idiot beano to come within the blast radius and shoot fire at the hidden explosive; bonus points if you can catch it in the flames at the same time you detonate the grenade.

You can make 'super mines' by hiding a grenade or two alongside the mine, thereby creating a bigger, more deadly blast on detonation. Mortar shells and flamer tanks also work for this purpose.

Custom made primer grenades rigged to a signaler/motion sensor also work for this purpose of detonating other explosives.

PSA: Sentries suck and minding them is now no longer central to doing a good job as an engineer; more extensive updates to come.

Here's another one for your 'do's and don't''s from the latest round:
Image
I think the goal here is to stop the marines from shooting the sentry but it doesn't even do that because the barricades are facing the wrong way. It got flanked and slashed by a hunter 30 seconds later through the male dorms because all the engineer had put there were wooden barricades.

Updated attachment loadouts and guide to reflect recent changes that have made gyros borderline useless, and slugs the new meta.

All hail the new era of the Angled Grip + slugs.

Also added useful macros for quick reloads and quick wielding when your active hand is occupied with a tool/pulling.
