Tactics and You, A Marine Story.

Post by Mack » 27 Dec 2018, 06:45

Headnote: This isn't an ultimate guide to tactics, this is a very generalised view on tactics in this 2d spessmen game. Everything you find here shouldn't be new to experienced players but may prove useful to newer players. This also may recieve updates due to any angry comments on this post :s

Alright you have just been promoted to a commanding position, whether that be an aSL, SL, SO, XO or CO and you now need to make choices on what you are doing and how you are going to do it.

The first thing you have to take in is that this isn't a military shooter, this is, as said before, a 2d spessmen game and when devising your tactics you must always keep this in mind. Remember, no amount of military knowledge is going to beat 30 marines with shotguns.

The first rule of leading is knowing where your team is and making sure they stay together, by the love of god keep your fucking team together. You can accomplish many ways, the best way is to scream over the radio “GET TO MY BEACON”, along with a description of where you are and if you know it the actual place you are. You have to treat all marines as if this was their first round because if you don’t you’re going to get split up and fucking die.

There is only really one way to win a round, and that is the unga rush. 95% of Marine Majors are because of a unga rush. Now a unga rush is like a fine wine, you can’t pull it off too early as you will get fucked for ‘Meta Rushing’ by xeno main moderators. And you can’t pull it off too late as you may lack manpower and morale. Whilst this is a video game morale it is very important for morale to be high, as if morale is low and action is very stop and start marines will quickly retreat to save themselves, you need to get the adrenalin pumping through your troops and they need to be ready to die and not play for the rest of the round to achieve the major. Morale is everyone's job. As a CO or XO you need to lie about how your marines are doing, remember they are always winning until they’re all dead, make sure to tell them they are always doing well and use Ares scans to your advantage, if there are only 10 xenos left announce something along the lines of “Only 10 to go! We can fucking demolish them marines!” o̶r̶ ̶"̶A̶f̶f̶i̶x̶ ̶b̶a̶y̶o̶n̶e̶t̶s̶!̶"̶. As a SO you need to make sure they are getting their drops of ammo and equipment. As a SL you need to make sure they know they are doing a fantastic job. Remember as a SL or a aSL don’t boast about your kills in squad chat, boast about your squads kills in squad chat. Instead of saying “I killed the screecher!” say something like “Echo killed the screecher!” or “We fuckin killed screecher fellas!”. No one in your squad wants to hear about your victory, they want to hear their victory. Make sure as an SL to lead the charge and keep the momentum, as soon as you lose your momentum you are going to have to fallback and lose everything you have worked for.

Always remember that Marines are a attacking force and have been balanced as such, they are built to rush and be on the offensive almost all round whilst Xenos are a primary defending but with a good attacking build. This means that marines will never be able to hold out in a FOB but xenos may be able to hold out in a base. Both sides can attack and you need to use that to your advantage. Xenos can lose ground very easily and find it hard to hold angles and hallways as marines can easily out range and out gun them.

Some basic points to take away:
  1. This isn’t a military simulator, don’t treat it like one
  2. Don’t sacrifice roleplay to win
  3. Stay as a group
  4. Keep morale up
  5. Keep your momentum
  6. Stay on the attack
  7. Marines have fun xeno or marine major.
  8. E̶v̶a̶c̶u̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶b̶a̶d̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶m̶o̶r̶a̶l̶e̶.̶
