GL Is a really weird weapon in that its essentially Sadar-light, only useful for t3s and other slowpokes but /very/ good at killing those. If you get the RSR to give you some 1-2sec fuse nades you can be pretty damn viable but as is its a very underwhelming choice, Especially considering the scarcity of getting 'ammo' for it and the fact you're giving up a Smartgun, Sadar, or Sniper to take it. All of which have very clearcut uses and excel in their area of expertise. The GL excels at area denial against xenos who think incin nades do constant damage and is essentially about as useful as carrying 3 m4s set to UGL into battle if you ask me.

pick up either gun, go die in either melee or range, or from goddamn queen screeching
Janina 'Bullseye' Jardine- Never misses, but what she DOES hit is another thing

This place would be so much better if marines were replaced with cyborgs, atleast those would follow orders. assuming there was a rule forcing them to do so...

Now that I'm alive again, I'll try and update this guide. Will take a while considering how hard it is to get into a Spec role, but I'll get around to it.

I think my feelings on the SADAR will remain consistent tho.

I've gone through and significantly updated the guide to be as up to date as possible. Most of it is based on observations since playing as a Spec is very hard to get into.

Guide is lacking a bunch.

Thermal Tarp
Marksman Gear

etc.

Will sticky once fully updated, or PM me in-game and ill give you a spec role with all the gear so you can update this.

Getting all the gear would massively improve the speed of this guide, very hard to play as a Spec these days.

Yeah I'm going to re-do all the Spec weapons, slowly getting around to it, will do the edit in one giant clump.

I'll try and take Feweh up on his offer if I can.

Updated from Smartgun to Recon Sniper.

Further edits will be reliant on getting in game access to the remaining roles. I know enough about them but I want to get full info on their kit for this guide.

Updated Grenade Launcher mostly.

I think the guide is in a good place. Aside from the Marksman kit, all spec roles have been checked.

Think it is viable for a resticky.

Won't be stickied till the most recent images are uploaded and its complete, as newbies can be easily confused.

The pulse rifle, c4 are examples of sprites that are out of date.

The marksman stuff is also quite important

I've finished the Marksman Kit entry (Marksman seems like a rubbish Spec choice) and I've updated the sprites.

Finally managed to win the specialist lottery. It was everything I expected and more. Thanks for the guide, was a really useful for helping me understand my weapons and which kit to take. (It was Recon for those who were curious.)

Good to hear someone got something good from my guide.

If I had to make a 'meta' pick for good spec compositions, I would suggest Two SADARs, one Smartgun and one Sniper. This provides a good balance of the three best Spec items but it does not overload on them.

While you can't go wrong with four SADARs, but keeping two SADARs but also taking a Sniper, to recon and suppress aliens/boilers, and a Smartgun for general support fire, is a nice pick imo.

We seriously changed it so you can only have one specialist weapon in play at all? One SADAR user, one Sniper user, etc, etc? Really not looking forward to the specs going nuts charging into their rooms at round start, not to mention I think that is a massive nerf in of itself.

Well I'll reorganise the guide at the very least. I'll have to try the new B18+GL combo tho.

Yeah. Now it it 1 SADAR against updated Crushers + same Ravagers. Wow, defintely good idea. Also, yeah, racing every round among specs, also, VERY small amount of grenades and C4s for specs. Definetely not well-thought change.

Although the classes are limited, it would seem to be that there is now a constant direct anti-boiler on the field.

This does not make up for the nerf it presents by the way.

Yeah, specs now have to race to get anything good, or they get stuck with less desirable gear. While it does promote faster times to ready up, you don't get the same feeling of satisfaction you'd get when you got spec in the fast.

Slowly getting around to update the guide proper. Much harder to do than I thought due to difficulty in actually getting the Spec role I want to play.

After my plays of spec I gotta hand it to the sniper for being the next anti-tier 3 marine, as there is two present on the battlefield.

The sniper is really powerful in the right hands. Even if they run outta rounds. They still get the job done.
