Tactics on the field : some tips

Post by Kesserline » 27 Feb 2018, 11:07

Hello good CM-Citizens !

Today, we'll talk about tactics. What is that bullshit ?

Some will say : it'S ATTACK/HOLD/RETREAT/MOVE/FLANK.

I could say yes. But that's not that simple. That's not that hard neither.

Tactics = Tactical insight + Understanding of space + Decision making

You need those 3 to establish your tactics. Most people do that without knowing it, because it's natural to them, for those whose it's not natural :

Let's focus on flanking maneuvers

Here is Lisa's/Sheretech video, some part of the example (0:25 to 0:37 and 0:37 to 1:00) illustrate the flanking maneuver : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_mpV9zViUs
Please, notice the awesomeness of my breathmask, I have to admit it's awesome, so please, admit it too, so as to be the tacticoolest and most sexiest SL ever.

Tacticool kisses !

Just gotta hammer home the usefulness of flanking. Me and Evelyn once broke a xeno push just by coming down from around robotics. 2 marines, all we did was provide a different firing angle and suddenly the xenos were running back, AND we killed a couple!

Just the other day me and Zupp caused a xeno major to become a marine minor by just distracting the xenos a little with a good flank.

These are all good points kesserline, another wonderful post from you! Keep up the tacticoolness

Thanks for yet another good thread, Kesserline.

It's important to point out that certain buzz words of command are not imbued with some magical power that leads to success, but are, ideally, organic decisions based on what is known, what can be inferred, what one can do about it, and then dealing with it.

The reward being that you get to do the entire process all over again ad infinitum until you win or you die.

Added 2 parts on the Flanking and Scorched Earth tactics.

I'll add visual examples when I come back from work explaining 2 last sucessful flankings. One of the biggest value, one of regular value.

Just the other day, two xenos distracted the entire FOB defence force by lining up against the hull glass on Prison LZ and pointing at marines on the other side. Since all marines were occupied there, the rest of the hive swept through TComms and took the LZ itself with minimal resistance.

Edited the shit : added the lastest flanking maneuver. With a big image and some awesome skills of paint.net.

Added Lisa Hotshot's video with some footage of the round (I really wanted you to see my breathmask, it's really badass.).

Flank is love, flank is life. Embrace the wipe, to get the USCM Major.

Really good points on battlefield command. Flanking and sustained aggression is 100 percent necessary for victory as marines. Knowing when to initiate such maneuvers is where the initiative part of being an SL comes in.

Another good guide, keep up the good work.

Figured out this is a SL/XO/SO/CO guide.

At some point I should really make a solo-grunt manual.
