Ethan - Sulaboy's Synthetic Application

Post by Sulaboy » 04 Jun 2018, 23:32

Byond ID: Sulaboy

Marine Name: Clancy 'Danger' Long

Name/Designation of the Synth Character you’re requesting to use: Ethan

Are you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines?

I understand the process of synthetics' decision making and the limits of their emotional abilities. I understand that orders must follow marine law, and the chain of command should be taken into account while determining priority of orders. I also understand that the priority of orders can also change depending on some of the situations or places a synthetic might be in (Like being told to help medbay, and then asking the CMO how they can help, or stopping to help an injured marine while reporting to CIC)

Physical Description: Ethan is modeled after a 40 year old male. He stands at 5'11" and has short black hair which shows signs of greying.

Synthetic Character Story:
After weeks of planning the day had come. The USS Almayer was the last patrol craft to enter orbit of the planet Linna 349. This jungle planet was under the control of a militant group which had routinely expressed their disdain for the United Americas. Not much information was available about the militants' motive. What was known was that they were frequently raiding colonies under the United Americas' protection undermining it's authority on the outer rim.

High command had cleared a large scale planetary insertion to put an end to this. Seven USCM ships were in orbit around the planet ranging from patrol craft to heavier transports. While inserting onto hostile controlled planets is often a very dangerous ordeal, the USCM is specially trained in seizing control of entire planets without a foothold to start in.

The militants had no official alias, however commander Christine Kennel referred to them as "Bug-Boys" during briefing. This was probably due to a certain member of command staff's fascination with horse racing, and as an insult to the experience of the enemy. This operation would involve one of the largest coordinated insertions in USCM history.

While the USS Almayer approached its optimal orbit the marines were taken out of stasis. The awakening of the infantry platoon officially started the operation. Marines worked on gearing up while Ethan prepared the marine's post stasis meal. He set utensils out, and prepared the MREs.

"Breakfast is served", announced Ethan as the marines entered the canteen.

Ethan patrolled the canteen serving the marines. He made sure they all had a large enough helping, or poured them a beverage. While Ethan was moving a tray of cornbread to delta squad's table PFC Henry Torus expressed his distaste for the meal and moaned, "Aw man how can you expect us to eat this flavorless garbage?"

Ethan responded, "Son, you've got a long day ahead of you, and if you don't eat up now you'll be sorry about it." Ethan then placed a piece of cornbread onto Henry's tray before walking off to another table.

After the marines had finished their meals they were briefed. Ethan had been informed of his duties beforehand, and would not be attending briefing. He was to deploy in the initial insertion assisting in anyway needed. While the marines were being briefed Ethan prepared the items he would be carrying during the operation with great care and organized them in his backpack.

The time to drop had come, Ethan would be dropping with a squad of marines on a dropship. While reconnaissance teams had been sent down in drop pods to scout out a landing zone the bulk of the force was being sent on drop ships. As the drop ship landed the marines quickly secured the area. Power-loaders offloaded pallets of supplies. Ethan helped marines lay out sensor equipment, and assisted in calibrating the sensors.

With a secured foothold on the ground heavy transports began to send down armored vehicles. A column of M22A3 Jackson tanks had been deployed, and preparations to move out were made. Most of the Almayer's infantry would be sent to support the armor division with the objective of clearing a path for the armor to roll through.

Captain Hayward Lay was the leader of the tank column, and would be giving orders to the infantry escort. Ethan began to scan over his data stores of Linna 349, and relayed some mission related information to the captain. "The Karyka tree is native to this planet, it grows everywhere, it's thorns will make it difficult for our boys to move around the jungle"

The captain replied, "Well, the infantry are more than well equipped to deal with it, and our enemy will need to work around these trees just like we do"

After a short period of loading supplies the tank column was ready to move. The surrounding infantry escort was ready to clear the tanks a path through this jungle. With a 90% humidity rating, and an air temperature of 30*C the conditions were harsh for the marines. Ethan went around the formation making sure the marines were hydrated, and handing out water bottles from his backpack.

During the second day of marching the infantry was working hard on burning a path through the jungle when a shot rang out. The marine who was holding the incinerator fell backwards, a plume of fire shooting in the sky as he fell. Another flamer sprayed out an impressive wall of fire which blocked any form of infrared vision through the jungle. This effectively denied vision from any possible snipers.

Ethan helped the injured marine to his feet. They moved back towards the brunt of the infantry platoon. Looking over the marine Ethan saw that the round had not penetrated the armor, it had detonated on the surface.

The marine was lucky to be alive. if that bullet had not detonated before penetrating the carbon-fiber of his armor the detonation would have occurred in his torso, instead the round had fragmented off his Boron-Carbide chest plate causing small pieces of shrapnel to break off and embed into the marines chin.

While the marines slowly advanced Ethan extracted fragments out of the marine's face and cleaned up any cuts.

After the incident with the sniper, infantry was instructed to stay in close proximity to the tank column. The further the column went into the jungle, the more resistance it met. Upon reaching a clearing in the jungle roof the humming of engines and the constant sound of tracks against mud was drowned out by the sound of gunfire. The column had rolled it's way into an ambush, the "Bug-Boys" were hidden well in the foliage and kept sustained fire from the edge of the clearing.

Captain Hayward instructed the column to quickly load flechette rounds and fire indiscriminately into the jungle. Marines sent burst upon burst of 10x24mm into the jungle, one marine angled his rifle to launch an air burst grenade across the clearing. Ethan worked on setting up prefabricated folding barricades he had stored in his backpack. The barricades would be quickly set up around the stopped column for cover. Ethan kept low and walked tried to help marines keep up their fire by handing out spare magazines.

The scene itself was one of beauty, the constant firing of flechette rounds from the cannons caused blasts of heated gas to escape the ports on the barrel. The large amount of suppressing fire with explosive tipped ammunition caused large plumes of mud to sail into the air on every impact, the occasional muzzle flash being spotted through the foliage only to be met with a hail of gunfire. Ethan attempted to ponder the the nature of war for a brief moment before deciding the concept was to complex and not worth processing.

The glare of a rocket caused a bright light to cover the battlefield as it flew into the lead tank. The tank suffered a direct hit causing an ammunition detonation. The blast scorched the metal as the heated gas expanding over the tank caused the air to distort. Ethan's assessment determined that the crew had no chance of survival. Two marines who were using the tank for cover had been injured from the explosion. PFC Thomas Colby had a deep wound on his arm that dripped dark red blood. The other marine, LCPL Brady Taylor, had a large piece of shrapnel sticking out of his smart gunner harness. Blood was soaking through his BDU.

Ethan was ordered to tend to Brady while the threat was dealt with. Ethan worked to manage Brady's bleeding, and did his best to prepare him for further transport, leaving the shrapnel in his chest for extraction in a surgical setting.

"You did good out there son", said Ethan

"But I-I did-dn't do an-nything", Brady stammered

"You did, you worked to protect your brothers better than anyone could ask for, you made me proud", Ethan said as the gunfight raged around them.

Ethan needed a dosage of quick clot to deal with the internal bleeding the shrapnel had caused within Brady. He moved in a crouch trying to get to one of the tanks in the center of the column. When Ethan made it to the tank he reached up to grab a medical pouch, but was met with the sound of gunfire whizzing by. Despite the gunfire Ethan still was able to grab the pouch.

Ethan took the pouch behind the cover of a tank to assess the situation. He had taken a hit during that maneuver. The round detonated in his right arm ruining the silicone colloids that functioned as his bicep, but the piece of carbon fiber that functioned as his numerous was luckily undamaged. His right arm dangled limply as he held the medical pouch. Liquid latex trickled down onto the pouch but it remained in his grip. Ethan carefully moved back to Brady, and finished medicating Brady before stopping his lubrication leak.

The sound of gunfire slowed until the constant stream became the occasional pop. The Bugboys were falling back, while they had caught the column by surprise the tactics and training of the USCM led the marines to success with minimal casualties. Brady was transported back to the USS Almayer while Thomas was cleared to continue after his arm was patched up with a medic's bio-glue.

Over the next few days the column pushed further towards their objective. Sensor scans were able to pinpoint a large hostile controlled sector, and the column had been moving in for an all out ground assault.

The fighting was intense, all USCM forces had converged to assault this stronghold. As the staging of this push was started Ethan was ordered to help in the back lines where he would receive repairs to his arm. Ethan assisted in the transportation of the wounded, and helped in the logistics of supply and medical transports. He gave words of praise to the injured marines for the effort they had given. Ethan would make sure they knew that they were a hero in his eyes.

The rest of the operation went as expected. The only hiccup was when a surface to orbit battery launched a missile barrage, and two struck the USS Sulaco. After two days of fighting, and the fall of a major supply dump the Bug-boys had surrendered. When the battle ended Ethan's work had not. Ethan would translate during the negotiation of the Bug-Boy's surrender. Prisoners were taken and accommodated for on the USS Geiger. After recovering from the battle the patrol crafts returned to their duties protecting the outer rim.

This story was heavily inspired from The USCM Handbook I wanted this story to show off some of the information, and lore from the book while giving some insight into how my synthetic would act.

How do you intend to play your synth as?

Ethan's quirk is his paternal attitude for the marines. He views treats them as his children, and sometimes may refer to them as the boys or son. Being a fatherly influence he values self improvement, and marines giving effort to complete their effort from marines giving praise for their actions.

In regards to gameplay I want Ethan to be sort of a pack mule for marines. Carrying bits of ammo and snacks or sodas for marines, while still doing the standard healing and building or repairing expected of synthetics on the ground.

I would want Ethan to work mostly with assisting a squad on the ground, but I'm fine working on the ship or doing whatever command staff orders. Also maybe some dad jokes.

How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO)

Medical: I played mainly doctor when I first started playing CM. I know all the important surgeries by heart, and understand the effects of almost every medicine. I have decent knowledge of OD limits. I'm also pretty good at getting marines back on their feet quickly as a medic.

Research: I've played researcher before, and I've always tried to do something with the role usually by testing chemical mixtures or writing reports about the dead bodies brought to research.

Piloting: I can gear up both drop ships, and fly them. I know how to use the shutter, cameras, and remote pilot them. I also know how to buy new parts from the fabricator.

Security: I understand marine law, and that Ethan must adhere to it at all times. Synthetics cannot enforce marines law, but are able to notify the MPs of crimes taking place. I understand arrest, and search procedures.

Requisitions: I know how requisitions functions as a unit. I know how to send down crates with supply beacons, and how to order objects (along with the paper work to refund points).

Engineering: I know how to set up the engines and build. I have not memorized the steps to constructing every object, but I do know how to use the wiki and find the steps quickly. I know how to work with electricals fairly well in-game.

Command: I can operate any console in the combat information center including he announcement console. I know how to transfer marines between squads and make IDs for survivors.

Why should we whitelist you?

I hope to bring a realistic synthetic to the ship. In the Aliens wiki it says that synthetics are often seen as parental figures because of they ways they care for the marines. I want to help make that a part of this game.

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason?
I have never been banned from CM.

Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?
I am not banned on any other servers.

Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?

I understand this very well, and plan on never breaking any rules. The programming guidelines are meant to affect the role-play of a synthetic. While the guidelines are not in-game restrictions (besides firing weapons) they are meant to be strictly followed. The guidelines are what define a synthetic's role.

My one complaint with this application is the lack of the spoiler tool, other than that it is fucking perfect.

This has my +1 all the way, if I could I would give it +500.

I haven't interacted much with you in-game but your name is a regular I see around. People know you and respect you, so there must be something to it.

The story was very interesting and it shows a lot of effort put to this.

But now, the quirk and playstyle... goddamn, I just love them. This is the kind of play that enhances other's experiences. And unless I'm horribly mistaken you appear to have the qualifications to pull it off.

I wish you good luck on this app and leave my humble +1, hoping to see Ethan around.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked the story. The main reason I wrote the story in this way was to show some of the USCM lore. I linked a PDF of the technical manual if anyone is interested in seeing the source of this. I wanted the story to show that a synthetic isn't supposed to be the focus of the story, but rather a machine working in the background.

I thought long about an original quirk for Ethan, and I'm glad you liked it. It was kinda difficult to consolidate his personality into a quirk, but I like the one I decided on. Thanks for reading.

You're a very good RPer, your skill overview is comprehensive, and your story was good. But, as other people have said, it's Ethan's quirk and playstyle that really stand out to me. I feel they'd make him very interesting to RP with and would look forward to doing so myself.

I enjoyed your story and you are fairly active, I gotta say that's a plus for you.

Your quirk and the way you inputted it into the story shows how you plan to RP so I have to say good job on the imagination and development of it all. Your overall app is lean and clean, working to show how you plan to roleplay and you know your stuff if you were a synthetic. Just remember to listen to all orders by command personnel even if you want to assist ground side.

With the community feedback being positive and my own views on your application I will give this a +1.
