My childhood, the start of the story isnt one you wouldn't have heard a hundred times before. Middle class martian family with an almost worthless dad who works in mining and hardly brings home enough money to keep us in the green after gambling so most of it away.
Mom who had a solid career in military RND ahead of her but had to throw it all away because of well, me... she coulda done a better job of hiding her feelings on that one honestly. She was cruel and unloving and it's safe to say that didn't set me up for success
Most of my childhood was spent in my room, chillin or going to school, wasnt much for social gatherings or going outside.
But that changed in the year I turned 12. 2080 baby that's the year Disco came back and came back BIG! Weyland made several models of synths with the voices, looks, and skills of old dead 20th century Disco artists and they took the Galaxy by storm!
Before you knew it Disco was the hot not actually new but new thing to us. Clubs were opening on every colony and station all over the place. It's was outside one of these clubs that I first met my hero Roy North. The man who was known by many in in the Disco crowd to be the undisputed master. The first DiscoKing. He was rumored to be many things, another Disco Synth, the reincarnation of some long forgotten Disco deity, or a member of the Space Yakuza. I can only confirm that he was in fact just a man with an unmatched passion for Disco and a member of the Space Yakuza.
I don't know what he saw in me, maybe I just had the kind of passion he had or just some look in my eye. But on our second meeting he took me under his wing and started secretly training me to be his successor. Training was hell for a young kid, balancing it and school was the worst. Sometimes after I turned 13 my parents divorced over some cheating my mother had been doing with her old boss. My father didn't have enough income to support my schooling and other living expenses so I had to dropout and work part time as a bartenders assistant at a Disco Club owned by a member of the Space Yakuza with connections to Roy. It was there that I earned the title of DiscoPrince, with a style largely based on the Kings it was inevitable people would compare us.
All in all, it wasn't a good childhood at all until Disco made its comeback and started to shape me into the man I am now.

Space Yakuza Days 14-17

When I turned 14 a whole world I had no idea existed started to open up to me. After almost 2 years of training Roy North revealed to me much of his own timeline to me. His surprising age of 80 years old not counting his 5 years of cryo time, his career in the U.N. Spacy and his service in both WW3 and WW4. Most importantly he explained the true workings of the Space Yakuza and his position within them. Looking back on it now, it was meant to be a warning not to get involved in them, which I ignored as I only focused on the potential excitement of it all. And exciting it was.
3 and a half years of dancing, learning to fly old planes, and smuggling just about anything the Space Yakuza wanted us to. From weapons to drugs I helped Roy move it all across Mars and the few space stations that orbited it.
All till a large deal with the Space Triad went bad and a price was put on the Kings head. He was long prepared for that sort of thing, but he hadn't taken into account what to do with me. He knew if he jumped town and left they'd just go after his apprentice. So he did the only thing he could, he spent much of his Disco fortune to buy my way out of Space Yakuza and my safety from them and the Space Triad then went on to face his fate. I was told that with one final boogie, the man, the myth, the legend.. the True First DiscoKing, died a heroes death taking half of the assassins that were after him down with him, something quite impressive for a man his age. Guess the Disco kept him strong. After Roy died I was left drifting. I couldn't hold a stable job tending bars and it felt almost as if the heart and soul of Disco had died with its king. I knew it was my duty to keep it alive, but I wasn't ready, not after all that had happened. For the time being, Disco would have to rest.

Enlistment and beyond 18-Now

I didn't join the army for any noble cause, I just did it because it was the last place I could turn to. Merc life could've been an option but it was to close to the life I just just been forced to leave. And Civilian life was clearly just wasn't something I was ready for.
I enlisted in the US Army's Martian National Guard as soon as I turned 18. Boot was a cake walk, the real struggle was parting with my hair. I had a bitchin white mans afro I simply didn't want to have to part with. But maybe the real tragedy was that I had it to begin with...
It was in bootcamp though that I met my Blood Brothers, Bobwert and Arnold and we formed the foundations of our friendship. We all loved ourselves some videogames, booze, and even if their knowledge of Disco was pretty lacking they liked it so that was good enough for me me.
In training exercises and drills the three of us were unstoppable, any weakness one of us showed the other two could more then make up for it. Bobwert was tall and smart, Arnold was Strong but calculated, and well, I'm a fuckin god so really we were bound for greatness.
To bad we all got CUCKED by that "Special Cryo Testing Program". It seemed like a great deal, sign up for a little cryo testing, nap for a few months tops and get payed some wonderful money for it. That's what we were expecting at least.
The three of us went into those tubes with 97 other test subjects and next thing we knew over 50 years had passed and we were being activated for some war they only called "Space Nam'".
Now, I studied history on my own and with Roy after I left school, and Vietnam was just one of those wars that after reading about WW3 and 4 you just feel like everyone must have been pussies back then. But, if Earth Nam' was even half the devil that Space Nam' was... what men they must have been.
If you weren't sick from the bugs then it was the heat. If it wasnt the heat it was the rain. If it wasn't any of that then, it was the Napalm, Chemicals, or just plain old decaying bodies that made you sick. From the moment you landed there you were under constant assault. Not from any "CLF", but from the very atmosphere and planet itself.
Because of how rushed our deployment from cryo straight to the planet was we were all issued outdated M16's that could only fire 5 shots before they had some kind of major malfunction. How we survived our first week down there I don't know... how we managed to last 2 years... your guess is as good as mine.
Took me a few months to figure out we weren't in the army anymore. At first we just thought we'd been asleep for a few months. Then things started to seem out of place. W-Y was stamped on all the supply crates. some of our fellow troops on the ground were eating crayons. Sergeants looked at us funny if we called them Sarge. It was like we were in some strange dream where we'd woken up in the marines and not in the army. When we actually bothered to I don't know, ask someone? We found out that no really we were in the marines, the Colonial Marines. Everything became so clear after that. The crayons, the "United America", the FF, THE BALDIES, it was so obvious now we had no idea how we hadn't noticed sooner.
When we were finally pulled off that shithole rock of a planet, after surviving the Space Tet Offensive, being witness to the Space My Lai Massacre, and many many more horrible things, the last thing we wanted to do was to go back to cryo. But with a dozen MP's armed with stunsticks and tazers they forced the 7 of us that were left from the original 100 test subjects jammed back into those tubes and set to sleep for god knows how many more years.
They never actually told us how many years we'd been asleep for, 50 years just felt like a good guess based on when we went to sleep, when W-Y and United America became a thing. 2185 was the year they left me out of cryo sleep again. This time not for any kind of war but just for a few years of service on a ship called the U.S.S Almayer. I never found out what happened to the few friends I made in Space Nam' or the other 6 cryo subjects. Maybe they'll show up some day on this crazy ship filled with marines with hair that reaches the floor or is even neon green. Sometimes I feel out of place, few people remember the Glory that was Disco. I've finally decided the time is right, here on this ship is where I'll bring the magic of Disco back.
Whatever comes now, after surviving Space Nam', The DiscoKing is ready for anything.
