History
Solaris Ridge (also known as Big Red) was a human settlement and former terraforming project. While originally an independent operation on the planet LV-1413, after funds dried up and the terraforming lichen failed to take, colonization rights were quietly sold to the Weyland-Yutani Corporation by at the time colonial director B. Dryers.

While Routerra I was part of the initial Kepler survey batch from NASA in 2026, the light-year difference and the planet's placement within the Neroid sector made early colonization all but impossible. Terraforming and subsequent colonization eventually began in 2125 and ended in 2145.

Lichen-based terraforming markets itself as a cheaper alternative to standard atmospheric processing, however the technology remains unproven. The initial two batches that were seeded at the then-fledgling Solaris Ridge site managed to establish themselves; but subsequent batches that were grown in the local Eta labs, as opposed to being imported, failed to meet expected growth projections. Recurring dust storms and an ever increasing maintenance bill forced colonial management to divert more of the budget than initially anticipated towards repair. By 2144, funds for the entire project had dried up. Ownership was sold to Weyland-Yutani in 2145, and the two lichen labs, Eta and Lambda, were converted for use as extended storage and study units for biological samples.

Currently, Solaris Ridge houses a meager 120 colonists and is considered a dead end for most enterprising off-worlders. It operates under the Weyland-Yutani brand as a biological storage facility and virology research lab, though rumor has it that those facilities have also been decommissioned. All of its colonists are presently employed by the Company, willingly or not. Additional funds to expand the project have yet to be allocated. Only the upkeep cost is maintained.
Sorokyne Strata was a human research outpost established on LV-976 in 2163. Operated by the Weyland Yutani corporation, Sorokyne Strata rested in a sliver of contested neutral space between the UPP and UA respectively within the Tychon’s Rift sector.

The outpost was gradually expanded to include a secondary mining outpost, and permanent on-site housing for research staff. Of the two outposts, the research segment was primarily composed of Weyland Yutani contractors and UA colonists, with the mining outpost being staffed mostly by UPP political dissidents. Both the construction and security contract were awarded to the UPP aligned firm Sestra Solutions LTD.

In 2171 efforts shifted towards terraforming the massive network of thermal tunnels that lattice the planet’s crust. Conservative estimates figure the relative value of the colony to be around 3.2b UAD.

In 2182 the automatic distress signal was detected by UA patrol vessel the USS Almayer, and a subsequent investigation was launched on behalf of the Company.
Thermae I was discovered by automated probe in 2112 by the United American - Peruvian Space Program and colonization rights were subsequently claimed by the ECA, Weyland Yutani, and Gemini Exoplanet Solutions. Weyland Yutani dispatched a colony ship in 2152, and established a frontier outpost in 2162. Thermae I features an iron/silicate core and an average gravity of 12.01 m/s2 (1.23 x Earth). == History ==

Kutjevo Refinery (also known as Kutjevo bottling plant / facility, and Weyland Spring bottling center No. 8) was a human water refinement and bottling facility operated and owned by the Weyland-Yutani corporation on the planet LV-686. Kutjevo was originally established as an independent extension of the GL1 Starview core world colony in 2160. Dykuma I, originally thought to be a terra-formable desert world, was found to feature a vibrant ecosystem that fed off of a network of potable aquifers. The colony administration experienced a hostile corporate takeover by members of the Canadian Space Affairs Ministry in 2162, and was sold in December of that year to the Weyland-Yutani corporation.

Bottling operations for the Weyland Spring brand began in 2165. Subsequently the refinery and surrounding colony housing exploded due to the reversal of the employment dearth in the outer American Corridor, which drew in a large swathe of rim colonists.

Currently Kutjevo houses over 2000 colonists and is a prime candidate for entry into the United American sphere of influence as a recognized terrestrial body. Of those 2000 colonists, around 70% are employed by the Company, with the rest working in adjacent supporting labor sectors.

LV-686 is a terrestrial world located in the Dykuma system just 14ly from the American Corridor. The Dykuma system is composed of Dykuma I (LV-686), ‘Dykuma’ an A6 IV White Subgiant, and its smaller unnamed M1 V Red Dwarf companion.

Discovered in late 2089, just months after Waypoint Station was christened by the UA, Dykuma would not be colonized until 2158, and later would declare alignment with the independents in 2160. Dykuma’s star and namesake is 25 times brighter than that of the Sun. Dykuma I features a relatively common iron/silicate core and gravity only .05% greater than that of Earth’s, making it very appealing for settlement.

Dykuma I has three moons in orbit, A, B, and C respectively. Dykuma IC is commonly known as ‘The Chariot’ due to its anomalous and incredibly rapid orbit, passing around Dykuma I in merely one and a half Earth weeks. The other two moons are far less exciting, with orbital periods of 1 and 2.3 Earth months respectively.
The Kutjevo complex is located in the Hangelkesk basin. The area having been named after the creator of the first lander to breach the planet’s atmosphere.

Subsequently the refinery and surrounding colony housing exploded due to the reversal of the employment dearth in (local sector name here), which drew in a large swathe of rim colonists.

Currently Kutjevo houses over 2000 colonists and is a prime candidate for entry into the United American sphere of influence as a recognized terrestrial body. Of those 2000 colonists, around 70% are employed by the Company, with the rest working in adjacent supporting labor sectors.
Dykuma I, originally thought to be a terraformable desert world, was found to feature a vibrant ecosystem that fed off of a network of potable aquifers. The colony administration experienced a hostile corporate takeover by members of the Canadian Space Affairs Ministry in 2182, and was sold in December of that year to the Weyland-Yutani corporation.

Bottling operations for the Weyland Spring brand began in 2185.

In 2190 the Kutjevo colonial administration issued a distress signal, citing an unspecified biological outbreak. The responding vessel, the USS Almayer of the United Americas was directed to land combat ready troops at an exterior landing zone at one of many colony extensions 6.5km away from the primary settlement.

LV-686

The complex itself is broken down into various components, only the outermost areas actually doing any of the water pumping or filtering. The central and initial aquafers long dried up.

Trivia
* Kutjevo Refinery’s initial concept was a combination of Trijent Dam and Sidewinder, from Halo: CE.
* Kutjevo Refinery was originally named Camp Sibilliad, a USCM boot camp.
* The colony walls, platforms, floor tiles, and rock walls all use the same 6 color palette.
* Kutjevo was originally snowy, owing both to the aforementioned Sidewinder, and that the same code used to handle Ice Colony’s snow turfs is also used to handle Kutjevo’s sand.
* The code that Ice Colony’s snow turfs originally ran on are suspected to be a Byond forums code sample.

Both the construction and security contract were awarded to the government owned firm Sestra Solutions LTD.

In 2171 efforts shifted towards terraforming the massive network of thermal tunnels that lattice the planet’s crust. Conservative estimates figure the relative value of the colony to be around 3.2b UAD.

In 2190 the automatic distress signal was detected by UA patrol vessel the USS Almayer, and a subsequent investigation was launched on behalf of the Company.

LV-976 (Thermae I) is a terrestrial world in orbit of a M3 V Red Dwarf subsequently named “Thermae”. Thermae is 1/100 luminous as Sol, and holds two planets (Thermae I & II) within its gravitational well. Excluding loose debris and Thermae 1A and 1B, the system is devoid of any other permanent planetoids or terrestrial bodies.

Thermae I is approximately 1.12 AU from Thermae proper, the leading cause of the incredibly cold climate, though terraforming efforts have seen a return to more hospitable conditions.

Thermae II is a barren rocky world with no atmosphere. It is heavily irradiated by the star. It is approximately .4 AU from Thermae proper.
In 2190 the automatic distress signal was detected by UA patrol vessel the USS Almayer, and a subsequent investigation was launched on behalf of the Company.
LV-976
LV-976 (Thermae I) is a terrestrial world in orbit of a M3 V Red Dwarf subsequently named “Thermae”. Thermae is 1/100 luminous as Sol, and holds two planets (Thermae I & II) within its gravitational well. The system is devoid of any other permanent planetoids or terrestrial bodies.

Thermae I was discovered by automated probe in 2112 by the United American (Govt’ Space program name here) and colonization rights subsequently claimed by the ECA, Weyland Yutani, and (minor space company name). Weyland Yutani dispatched a colony ship in 2152, and established a frontier outpost in 2162. Thermae I features an iron/silicate core and an average gravity of 12.01 m/s2 (1.23 x Earth).

Trivia
* The initial layout pass for Sorokyne was done in 4 hours.
* Sorokyne was the first map to make use of handrails.
* Bernard’s mob gender and description gender don’t match.
* Earlier versions of Sorokyne featured an underground sewer system connected via ladders at each generator shed. The second Z level was scrapped relatively early on into development.
* Originally each generator shed provided power only to local structures, though due to a bug with the Almayer powernet, independent power networks were removed, deprecating this design decision mid-development.
* The wooden hospital area, basket-ball courts, security hangar (jungle caves) and minehead areas were added last minute just two commits before initial playtests of the map.
* On initial release, the amount of colored floor tiles in the canteen correctly correspond to the beds in the dorm buildings within the jungle. After major remapping and lane changes, this is no longer true.

The Hive
The Queen, the Hivelord and the Drone all share the ability to secrete resin and shape said resin into structures. This ability is incredibly important, as it enables them to develop Hives: large resin chambers in which Xenomorphs can live, recover and gather hosts. These environments are generally hostile to non-Xenomorphs, and can be used as a defensive position, allowing Xenomorphs to shape the battle to their advantage as they get pushed back.

All resin structures, outside of the Resin Sac, must be built on existing resin weeds. This means that building Hives is a methodical process. Weeds must first be planted in an area and allowed to spread, before more complex structures can be erected atop said weeds.

Resin structures are relatively sturdy, and are able to sustain decent punishment from firearms, explosives and sharp weapons before falling apart.
Weeds and sticky resin are exceptionally weak to fire and high-explosives, while Resin Structures are easily destroyed by explosive and incendiary ammunition types.

Note that weeds can only be planted in areas that do not have pre-existing structures or objects on them. Things like catwalks, grasses, and other obstructions prevent the weeding of an area.

Only one resin structure may be built on a chosen tile, excluding Resin Sacs. As such, it is impossible to stack a nest and sticky resin, or a door and sticky resin. If a structure is getting in the way, you can claw it apart or tear it down.
<br><br>
Hive Structures
* All Hive structures cost 75 Plasma to create(Hivelords build for 100 plasma, but make stronger structures.)
style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="600" | Resin Weeds
style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="300" | Uses
style="background:#C075C7" | Image
Resin Weeds are secreted from a special Resin Sac that one regurgitates and places on the ground. From there, it will spread weeds tile by tile in a small, circular radius until stopping.<br>
Weeds are critical for even the most basic Hive to be built and are always beneficial even if no special fortifications are planned. In many cases, they can mean the difference between life and death for Xenomorphs. They are, however extremely fragile and easy to rip away, with only the actual Resin Sac being resistant to attacks. Note that the Queen's weeds spread faster, further and are stronger then ones placed by a drone. A hivelords weeds are just stronger then normal.
|
* Any Xenomorph standing on weeds will receive increased plasma regeneration and will regenerate their health slowly. They need to rest to heal at a faster rate.
* Humans moving through weeds will be slowed down slightly, making it harder for them to evade and maneuver
|

style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="600" | Resin Wall
style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="300" | Uses
style="background:#C075C7" | Image
Resin Walls are another important part of the Hive. Rarely will existing terrain be perfect for the Xeno's use, and often they may wish to adjust it. Resin walls are big, opaque and fairly tough structures, capable of withstanding a reasonable amount of fire<br>
Their most obvious use is to delimit chambers inside a completed Hive, but their properties also make them excellent cover. As you will almost always be threatened with ranged weaponry, this makes resin walls invaluable in defensive setups.
|
* Completely blocks line of sight. Xenomorphs can use their special vision to see mobs through them regardless.
* Sturdiest structure available to the Xenomorphs, making for good hardcover until destroyed.
|

style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="600" | Thick Resin Wall
style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="300" | Uses
style="background:#C075C7" | Image
Thick Resin Walls are a major upgrade over regular Resin Walls, exclusive to the Hivelord caste. While normal Resin Walls will tend to fall rapidly to enemy fire, Thick Resin Walls will usually hold up for much longer, for little added cost to the Xenomorph building and maintaining them. This makes a Hivelord invaluable when building Hives and forward positions, and can potentially stall Marine advances if positioned properly.
|
* Straight upgrade over Resin Walls, able to soak up much more punishment before falling apart, for the almost the same initial investment and build time.
* Can only be built by a Hivelord, replacing normal Resin Walls.
|

style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="600" | Resin Membrane
style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="300" | Uses
style="background:#C075C7" | Image
Resin Membranes are a transparent resin structure, with the strength of Resin Walls, allowing direct line of sight. This is particularly useful for larvae gestation as every infected marine within the line of sight of each other speeds up the incubation process meaning that you'll have more larvae in a shorter amount of time.
|
* Allows vision through, while giving the same protection as a resin wall.
|

style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="600" | Resin Door
style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="300" | Uses
style="background:#C075C7" | Image
Resin Doors are specially crafted resin membranes, allowing Xenomorphs to navigate through the Hive. Thanks to the special elastic resin used to shape them, they will collapse back to their original shape after a short while, opening and closing themselves for passing Xenomorphs.<br>
Resin Doors are paramount to most Hives for obvious reasons. A chamber is of no use to anyone if it cannot be entered or left. However, you should consider adding more than one door. Faced with Resin Doors in multiple directions, no-one can be fully confident which one will open to reveal a Xenomorph.
|
* Allows Xenomorphs to pass through somewhat seamlessly while denying access to humans unless destroyed.
* Less sturdy than a wall, but capable of holding its own against limited punishment.
|

style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="600" | Resin Nest
style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="300" | Uses
style="background:#C075C7" | Image
Resin Nests are an important structure for Hive nurseries, allowing Xenomorphs to lay down and secure hosts using extra resin provided within the nest, preventing them from easily leaving and thus allowing a relatively large amount to be guarded safely. The medium it provides is particularly suited for incubation, meaning that Xenomorph Embryos will grow faster within nested hosts.<br>
Nests are not particularly sturdy and will be destroyed fairly easily. While a nested host will find it long and arduous to break out on his own, it is effortless for him to be cut out by someone else, making them fairly useless if not guarded or left to the enemy. A skillful Xenomorph might still manage to use one as a trap of sorts, although it will only work on downed targets.
|
* Allows the Hive to secure hosts for incubation.
* Increases Xeno Embryo growth.
|

style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="600" | Sticky Resin
style="background:#C075C7" scope="col" width="300" | Uses
style="background:#C075C7" | Image
Sticky Resin is an arrangement of thick, stringy resin filament strewn across weeded floors able to easily delay and bog down any human going through them. This allows Xenomorphs to make their Hive even more dangerous to navigate, with no other cost than making the selected space not usable for anything else until destroyed.<br>
A Hive might find it wise to fill empty spaces with sticky resin once the layout of the Hive is done. In a pinch, it is recommended to at least cover entrances, doorways and surround nests.
|
* Slows down and even halts non-Xenomorph movement
* A bit harder to get rid of compared to Resin Weeds.
|

Hive Planning
While it is easy to throw down resin, it is essential to try and plan for what you want to do with the space you are using. Are you merely weeding the terrain? Are you planning to supplement existing structures with doors and walls? Are you making a full Hive chamber? Is it going to be a defensive chamber, a maze for assaulting unsuspecting marines, or a nest for captured hosts?

Not planning can lead to severe errors, and once a Hive is well underway, it is incredibly time-consuming to tear down resin structures to try again. Be careful about the space available to you.

Some standard tips to help you build a Hive worthy of your Xenomorph Hive:

* As time goes on, any area that isn't weeded and can be, should be. Weeds are the life and blood of the Hive, and as the Resin Weeds spread and extend through the colony, the area where Marines can safely navigate shrinks proportionally. In the event of combat, remember that even the smallest patch of weeds can be used to rest and recover plasma and health.

* An average chamber should be thoroughly sealed with Resin Walls and Resin Doors. A good hive should have wide entrances to make maneuvering easier and multiple exits to ensure that xenomorphs don't get cornered and trapped by the USCM.

* A wall of Resin Walls and Resin Doors is the most basic defensive setup. While it can be destroyed with concentrated fire, it allows Xenomorphs to break line of sight and provides secure locations to ambush marines. More advanced tactics can involve stacking walls, or creating single Resin Walls for Xenos to hide behind.

*Usually, every nest will be a trade-off between space efficiency, easiness to guard, and concentration of hosts within a chamber. As hosts that get up can help others break free, large chambers are unadvised due to humans being able to coordinate an escape effort. A more conservative setup is to use a square of four nests, preferably not full of hosts, with two guarding castes on each side to quickly put down any revolt. Small nest cells can always work, assuming you have unlimited space to work with.

* Sticky Resin is a useful tool to hamper human maneuverability inside the hive, with the drawback of restricting construction on the tile it is built on.
