"Banned for using a homophobic slur - in character made a clearly derogatory comment that includes a somewhat stylized, but clearly recognizable well known homophobic slur. Per our zero tolerance policy, a week ban will be issued."

I don't really see why I have been given an immediate 7 day ban for essentially just saying "Helmets are gay". I also don't understand why it's been identified as a "stylized" spelling, is this supposed to imply that I'm trying skirt around the rules or hide some genuine homophobic intent? I have no idea.

This feels like a colossal over-enforcement of one of the server's rules. If it was a comment directed at a specific person in a way that was intended to be genuinely derogatory I could understand but I feel that it's evident that it wasn't the case and there was no clear ill-will to anyone that's homosexual which I also feel is very apparent.

I feel at the very worst a conversation beforehand would have been appropriate and if I was not receptive then a temp ban or a note but again I feel an immediate 7-day ban is incredibly severe and does not match the intent of my actions nor the perceived crime based on my actions.

Hello there!

This is the line that got picked up during a log sweep which was later investigated.

I have taken a look in the logs and determined that it is in fact exactly what it looks like - your dropped a slur over someone wearing a helmet. Which is a clear violation of our acceptable language rules.

As per the stylization part, one letter in the word is different which I assumed was not a typo but a deliberate action - to make this clear, this had no effect on your ban or its duration, but considering the circumstances of this ban, was done for the note to present as complete a picture of the ban as possible.

If I made an error in interpreting what I said, please explain the use of that world in particular.

Other than the simple use of the word it is still very clear that it was an absurd joke not to be taken seriously.
Again, if the context was a bit different I wouldn't have cared but I called helmet users gay at the end of the day, regardless of the word I chose to use.

The ban has set to expire soon, and CM management going forward has instituted a new word bot that will report any slurs/racist language used in game. At the end of the day no amount of "roleplay" will justify any "bad words" used. Due to this ban expiring soon, it would not be practical to assign it for review.

This is going to be the response to all bans issued by this new filter bot.
Moving forward please keep Rule 3 in mind

Usage of slurs IC/OOC on the server will result in a 7 day ban, automatically.
Racism, the use of slurs and other targeting terms or phrases is strictly forbidden and will not be tolerated.
Being Homophobic, Sexist or a general bigot is not ok, and action will be taken to rectify such behaviour.
BYOND ckey/usernames that are deemed racist, homophobic, sexist, etc... by staff are not permitted. You will be given a chance to create a new CKEY and you must request our staff to transfer any notes.
