    MattAtlas - Commander Application

    Commander Whitelist Application
    Byond ID?
    MattAtlas.

    Player Name You Use Most?
    Lyla Bennett / Lily.

Make a list of links to all of your applications and (job)ban appeals, including whitelist and staff apps, within the last year. Also, provide "Ban reason; Verdict" beside each (job)ban link
Have you received any ban within the last month? How long was it and what for?
    Nope.

Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?
    Yes

How do you view the tool of Battlefield Execution to be used? What circumstances do you think it would be necessary to BE a member of the crew? Where do you think the Battlefield Execution Mechanic Differs from regular Execution and why?
With the recent changes to the Battlefield Execution, it's become more of a way to deal with imminent danger. You can no longer BE someone on shaky grounds. It should be used as I previously said - a tool to deal with imminent danger to you, the ship or the operation. To BE someone, what they're doing should fall into at least one of the previous categories, for example: inciting a mutiny, shooting the CO, et cetera. It differs from a normal execution because it can be done immediately, without an arrest, without warning and it cannot be done on arrested marines.

How will your Commanding Officer run his/her ship? Provide a detailed explanation on how he would handle situations that might commonly occur such as, a insubordinate engineering staff, a Staff Officer who cannot do anything right, an Executive Officer wh
I will be making a new character to play as CO, who will essentially be very cold, always looking for the maximum performance in the ship and her crew. He'll have next to zero tolerance for the incapable, of course I won't jump to BEs at all - I will however ideally attempt to use demotions more than they currently are. Now, of course, I know that I won't be able to always upkeep my playstyle, much like playing Predator.

As for the scenario questions, my way of dealing with them will be rather simple - stern warning, another warning if they fucked up lightly, and in case they fucked up big time again a demotion. This is in line with the kind of command play I'd like to run. This is regarding officers of course and not enlisted - my character believes that officers should know not to fuck around, and they should get the harsh end of the stick.

On how I will deal with the engineering staff, MPs will be my go-to tool here. If they're being insubordinate, I'll tell them to stop fucking around as their final warning. In case they keep the shit up I'll send the MPs and brig them for insub, ideally with minimum timer so they learn their lesson. If I have no MPs, I'll deputize an SO or the XO. If I have neither, I'll have to do the job myself.

As for the Staff Officer who cannot do anything right, I'll first ahelp him to get him a mentor. In case he keeps fucking up despite my warnings, I'm afraid he's not quite ready to play SO yet, so I'll have them demoted or brigged for insubordination, depending on what they did or whether they ignored my orders.

Regarding the XO who keeps questioning me, it's their right to question what I'm doing. I'll let them raise any valid concerns and listen to what he's saying first and foremost, adjust what I'm doing wrong if I truly am, and if they're full of shit then I'll tell them to knock it off. If they keep breaking marine law, I'll have them brigged for insub and so on.

What do you think is the job of a Commander?
The job of a Commanding Officer is, obviously, to lead the operation. To be someone the marines can trust to command decently, and someone the people running events can trust to roleplay and not fuck up. They're the top of the rung at the ship, being able to modify brig timers and such. They're the ones that can ask the XO to take over the CIC and go roleplay should something such a captured alien or mini-event happen, and so on.

As a player what do you think could be added for Commanding Officer to benefit the role?
I think the CO is in quite a good position right now. I have nothing else I would ask to add, as the role doesn't really need more.

What do you think you could contribute by being whitelisted?
I'd like to say that when I'm playing synthetic, predator or something such as XO I can uphold a good roleplay standard. I'm aware of how much some roles try to roleplay and I will try my best to not shut them down immediately. Adding to this, I know when to spend time roleplaying and when to keep running the operation - many dislike when XOs or COs go to research to RP while the FOB is falling. I will make sure I don't fall for that. Moreover, I'd like to say I have good knowledge of every map except possibly Trijent, and I'm aware of what tactics work and which don't. I probably have the traction to try new strategies (of course, I won't try suicidal ones) and get people to follow them.

Choose one of the following story topics to write about
    First Operation

Eight individuals were gathered at a table. They were wearing dress uniforms, and were looking at a certain person, the only one standing at the end of the table. Of course, this was the board of admirals, and the one standing at the end of the table was a fleet admiral. The latter individual nods to a few people in the sidelines, which scurry inside a room. A monitor engraved into the table soon lights up, displaying some camera footage of the Almayer.

    --- 25/12/2186 ---

The lone figure in the CIC is the CO, heading towards the map table. They speak into their headset for a few moments, "Executive and Staff Officers, gather at the CIC table. I expect you there within two minutes."

A minute passes. Sure enough, they all show up in time. A fair few seem to be sweating.

"I am sure you know what we're fighting down there. It's CLF, a colony militia, with the combined fighting force of a few insects. We can't afford to lose this battle, so I want you all at peak performance. Am I clear?" An unison Yes, Sir! rings out in the CIC.

"Good. Let's skip right to the plan." A few swipes on the map table and a holomap of the colony showed up. "We'll deploy our Synthetic to build our FOB. Following that, it'll also be tasked with making a field hospital for our troops, where we'll treat near-death cases. Alpha will leave a skeleton force to defend the Synthetic while it gets whatever it's doing done. The remaining Alpha forces and Bravo will scout the eastern section of the colony, while Charlie and Delta scout the southern section."

"This way, we have two squads ready to flank at all times should we encounter any CLF. Moreover, they won't be able to isolate or flank any squads, as we've placed one of the Specialists equipped with NVGs in each squad. Any questions?" The Executive raises their hand, much to the CO's surprise. "What is it? Speak up."

"Sir, why do we not have an entire squad defending the FOB? They'll be using guerrilla tactics, no? So it's best if we place at least the sniper on the FOB."

An expected remark. The CO shakes their head and responds. "No. They won't have the time to attack our FOB because we'll be hammering their base of operations from all flanks. They'll be trapped like a rat in a cage, and their wanderers will be forced to fall back, lest their base falls. They won't have the weaponry or the ammunition to fight back. They're a militia, their guns are cobbled together, nothing compared to our arsenal. They've already been given an ultimatum, and if they don't surrender within the next few minutes, we'll strike in full force. Any more questions?"

    Nothing.

"Good. Everyone, get to your post and go meet your squad. I'll make the briefing announcement. Executive, get to the briefing bubble." All the officers scurry to their positions, while the CO steps into the CIC bubble. The ship's announcement systems were wired into the Colony's for the final ultimatum, and so the CO speaks into the microphone...

"Attention, all militia forces in the Solaris Ridge colony. You have exactly five minutes to drop your guns and surrender to the USCM. I repeat, drop your weapons and surrender. You have five minutes. If you do not surrender, we will be forced to put an end to your uprising with full force. We will not hold back our orbital bombardments, usage of explosives or close air support."

The briefing announcement is then made. The video feed cuts to the briefing room, and all the squads are gathered there. The CO steps into the bubble with a megaphone, looking over the eager crowd of marines.

"Good afternoon Marines. Today we'll be squashing some insects... precisely, the CLF in this colony. There's been a violent uprising, and most of the unarmed civilians that didn't join the militia were slaughtered. I am hereby authorizing lethal force on any CLF combatants, and I am hereby allowing the liberal usage of orbital bombardments on open fields or cave entrances. Now, let's get to the orders, shall we."

The orders are relayed. The squads, excited, drop within five minutes. An hour passes, and the CIC staff is celebrating a blitz victory. The Executive speaks up with their report. "Sir, we've won with minimal casualties, and all the wounded are currently being treated at the field hospital." The CO grins, putting their cigar out on an ashtray. "Good, good. As expected, the insects were crushed instantly."

The video feed cuts to black.

Great application, active player, and a killer story that fits with what you seem to be going for with this character; not to mention the other two whitelists you've got under your belt. I'm excited to see this Captain in action. +1

Yeah, this is definitely a +1 from me. Even if you weren't a known player to me, you definitely put in a good effort.

Alongside that, you have all of the other whitelists. You are ALSO the first person to use the new format, showing me you are willing to go above and beyond, even without using other's examples to help you.

So as I said before, +1. You earned it.

Matt's a standup guy, a solid roleplayer, and is demonstrably competent in many of the systems of CM. He busts his ass as a staff member as well, and as Captain I think he'll improve the Marine gameplay experience considerably. +1
