Paul started out his adult life with the USMC as a Pilot officer and cross trained a bit with field medics to help triage. While pulling a marine onto his ship he took some shrapnel to the face on LV-1313 and was grounded as a pilot. Not one to sit idle he studied medicine while he recuperated. He was never cleared to fly again due to his age but he did get his license to practice medicine aboard USMC vessels.
