Am I using the fax machine wrong?

So a bit oh an embarrassing question, but I'm having some confusion with the fax machine. Do I have to leave my ID and the paper in the machine until I get a reply for the admins or can I take them out as seen as the message has sent. All it says is "Transmitter rays aligning" so I have no idea if that means the message has been sent or not. Any help is appreciated.
