    All of the "combat queen" problem we have now started with the ovi system. For a while before it (before the queen charge was added after the ovi system), queen was simply an oversized drone that can shit out eggs and screech. And it was still more fun for the queen player and the marines.

    All of this started with the idea of making Queen xeno's final boss. All the power was focused into one player. So if the player shits the bed, the hive gets dunked

    I remember back in the day when we had no ovi and it was always LV we would build queen nests at Tforts area. One fun thing people would do is drag all the dead marines (back when dragging was allowed) to the queens nesting chambers. Usually it was some form of a big square with like an outter hallway all around the big square to have a second row of walls/doors to keep marines from getting out. Well in this hallway the queen would gib all the dead bodies so that entire hallway was just covered in massive amounts of blood and body parts. So marines trying to escape or get in are met with this texas chainsaw massacre type hallway. Talk about atmosphere.

    So uhh, can we start like a petition to bring old "oversized drone that can shit eggs and screech" queen back ? It was way more balanced for the marines to fight, and the queen player doesn't have to force themselves to play "Typing Simulator" on ovi

    Honestly, I also just see a lot of ovi nerfs, and instead combat buffs in that history. The cooldown on abilities is needed, lest you can just get a queen with three plasma slave drones to keep a ravager immortal... But 15 seconds is harsh. Even just because it slows dow moving leaderships around. You can't even abuse leaderships that easily, as you might as well overwatch the fourth xeno group that doesn't have your pheros yet. Getting more than 4 groups is just... silly and inefficient. I usually give two frontliners, then a lurker pheros. Lurkers are incentivised to work together not to die as quick, and enjoy the warding.

    Yes, but again, the combat buffs started with the idea to make Queen "the final boss" for the xeno team. Suddenly she has to be the bad bitch that can take on the world when she gets off the ovi. And she got all the combat abilities just thanks to that idea.

    Again, pre-ovi queen is just an oversized drone that can shit eggs, screech and gib. That's all there is to it. She was balanced for combat by the fact that she doesn't have full explosion immunity, to B18 and SADAR could meme her if she's not careful. She also didn't have charge to just delay around forever. Think of our current queen off ovi, with 1 speed mutation and no spit/rav delimb/explosion immunity/armored crest. That's what the old queen was.

    The one thing the old queen had was insane armor though. Ancient queen deflected AP rounds from 2 tiles away.

    Ancient anything is supposed to be stupid broken because in a normal game, it takes 3-4 hours to get to.

    By then the game should be over.

    Combat Queen is strong at the moment because of one of the main builds for hives right now, which is flawed tackle + Fast evolution + Stat buffs

    The hive has fewer numbers but gets stronger faster. However because they lack so many xenos they lean on the Queen for support, who also ages and gets stronger faster.

    This isn't helped by Almayer defense, where the tight 2 wide corridors prevent xenos leveraging their numbers, leading to the Queen being needed to break strong defend able areas such as CIC.

    Fast evolution isn't even that bad. And in the almauer, yes, it is hard to break defence with no screech and just a boiler. But it hurts rines far more than it hurts xenos when she screeches. The tight hallways make it harder to respond to a screech, there's too little space to focus her down.
