    Description of the incident
Forest2001 did an event. I have no problem with events, but this event seems to have no thought put into it. From my perspective, here was the event:

Prison station UPP Combat Synths are tasked with secured some corrupted larva or whatever, I dont really know. To this end, they were given spec gear, and some OP guns. The equipment I witnessed was: Thermal cloaks, NVGs, Shotguns, Tranq rounds, and a smartpack. There were about 3-4 synths, total. According to Forest they were allowed to be hostile to marines 'at will'.
Of course, my first encouter goes a little like this. Its earlygame, im escorting an IO getting intel. I notice pings on my MD and go investigate, and found the combat synths. I run away to warn the IO, only to find a second cloaked synth had run up and stunbatonned him. I PB that synth twice, then the synth I orginally found runs at me. I shoot and hit him, but he rushes towards me. I dodge his first shot, PB him. The second synth then stands up and stunbatons me, and both me and the IO are PB'd to death. Thankfully, I got the alarm out, so command knows there are UPP synths on the station, but because Command is busy playing the actual game and fighting xenomorphs, the only thing done is a few annoucements saying there are reports of UPP Combat Synths. At this point things get weird. The Synths have captured a few marines, and attempts to do RP with hostages. CIC, of course, doesn't really talk to them much, because they are busy fighting xenomorphs (We were doing pretty well at this point.) CIC faxes HC, HC sends an RMP squad with normal RMP gear, plus lethal ammo. We go shipside and find the synths, only to be fucking destroyed by numerous PB's, stunbatons, and the likes. We did manage to kill one, though, in exchange for 6ish ERT squad members. At this point, the UPP got a corrupted larva or defender spawned in for them to 'evac'. Their first evac is compromised, so they do an annoucement saying their evac shuttle is gonna self destruct. Now, Admemes call down Normandy, the CAS dropship, so that they could evac the defender with the ERT shuttles onboard the ship. The CAS pilot fucking dies to a PB, and confirms in dchat that he did not send the normandy to the LZ, and that was admeme fuckery. Anyways, they launch the Normandy without the Defender onboard, so admemes end up teleporting the defender onto the Normandy. They get to the ship, and start slaughtering the defenders. They manage to evac the defender, but leave a few synths behind, PMCs were called in at one point but couldn't stand up to the combat synths. They evac and I decide that I should make a cmplaint because holy shit, everyone was salty, including me. Also they spawned normal commands to help the synths (They needed help?) at one point. Forest also told me marines would be comp'd for any kills the synths made, but I didn't see any comping.

So: Why was this a bad event?
    1) Combat synths. Theres a fucking reason the synth protocols or whatever severely frown upon combat synthing. Its because synths are fucking overpowered, and have NO restrictions on combat, unlike preds. They can tank PB's, then rush off and selfheal, then repeat. They are COMPLETELY overpowered, and really should not have been used for an event like this. Honestly I'd preferr them to be banned from events, simply because there is no gear to fight them effectively.
    2) The synthetic gear. Commando armor is pretty damn good, combine that with the Thermal Cloak, shotguns, stunbatons, and smartpacks, the synths were all but unstoppable.
    3) The lack of restrictions on the Combat Synths behavior meant that the Synths had a massive impact on the marine round. For instance, the IO that we killed had lots of intel that was never recovered, meaning that we never got past defcon 4. Not to mention the numerous other marines that the synths killed, depleting the already pushed-to-the-limit marine force. This was high-pop so the fighting was numerous and it was FIERCE.
    4) The Admin's decision to continue on with the event rather then to end it after the first evac was lost, probably contributed the most to the marine forces loss. By calling down the CAS dropship (That was doing work, by the way. Cas PO was kicking ASS) and basicly ensuring his death, meant that the marine force was without CAS. CAS is a fundamental part of marine strategy, depriving the marine force of CAS for an event that 80% of the marine force wasn't involved it (The marines fighting on the frontlines) was a stupid fucking decision. In general, sending combat synths shipside was a stupid fucking idea. Hell, they LEFT their objective behind, but instead of having the synths just go back down for the xenomorph or evac without it, they teleported it up to the DS. They basicly HANDED the UPP synths the victory. There was no way for marines to win here. And while marines dont have to win every event, they should atleast have a chance.
    5) Just...jesus christ. Can we not think things through a bit more? Giving synths, that are already powerful combat roles, second best armor then equipping them with MP gear, all access, and spec gear really should have made the admin stop and go "Is this a bit much?"
    6) Making an event with vital RP elements in a game where the marine force has no CO (The people who basicly live for RP) was also a pretty dumb idea.

Anyways, maybe im just salty, but this event was pretty poorly run in my opinion.
    Evidence
    N/A
How you would punish the accused
Ban combat synths from events., and maybe insitute rules that events can only be run with a marine CO.

We don't, and won't, ban any role from events. Additionally while they were at their own liberty to go hostile you took lethal action first.

Only two of the main four synthetics had commando armor, nor can shotguns operate while cloaked. As you said, the other two had smartpacks which only have charge for two repairs before they need to return to an APC.

I compensated marines with PMC forces, though I admittedly forgot to provide DEFCON compensations like I promised to do.

I did not ask the UPP to call the Normandy, they did so of their own accord. I simply sent a second team to exfil them after they did so as I thought it was a smart move of theirs, and indeed it worked.

They had no specialist gear, and all antag soldiers have all-access. I made no special modifications.

The event was prepared and in motion before the round even started. I was unaware of what roles were present, nor is it strictly relevant.

As it stands I accept I made mistakes with this event and could have done things differently. I have a thread on the general forums section where you can suggest events to me, and provide feedback on events I have run. I would appreciate it if you filled out a feedback form so I can take your thoughts into consideration.

    Apologies, and thanks,

    Hello! here is my rebuttal.
    1) While the synths had the decision to battle marines, the nature of your event would inevitably cause them to HAVE to combat marines, meaning that this doesn't really matter. Not to mention, UPP are hostile to marines. Despite giving the synths the decision to go lethal or not, because they were UPP it was a 100% chance that marines would be hostile, and the end result would be the same.
    2) While the smartpacks would only have two charges, the choice of map means that nearly every room has an APC. With power being up due to marine fighting, it would be simple to repair an APC and practically gain immortality by recharging your smartpack over and over.
    3) You compensated far too late, after synths have slaughtered numerous IOs, specs (I assume, from the spec gear) and RMPs, and have gotten all their super special gear.

All in all, I still believe that the use of combat synths should be completely banned in events due to their obviously overpowered nature. In any battle a combat synth would have an overwhelming advantage against its oppoent, even with something as simple as a telebaton (See: Brad beating a xeno queen to death with a baton)

I am not banning combat synths from events, so let's just get this out off the bat. The only thing is they shouldn't be used in a meme role like any other meme event (see abominations) if there is no roleplay or plot behind them in the event. I discourage my admins from doing any outright meme event. From what I can tell between your discussion it sounds like this was not a bad or meme event persay just some things that could have been improved after the fact.

As far as there being no CO, our admins cannot control that. There is no protocol that says an event cannot be run without a CO and I have no intent of changing that at all. Admins and Developers run events all the time without a CO in low pop.

Before I even ask one of my staff members to pull logs, how about I just save the trouble and ask is your intent on this report to want combat synths banned from all events?

Probably not my place to say anything here, but I was present during the event, and I was PB'd by the Synths 3 minutes after logging on. I think that what really needs to happen is that the admins use the Event Info Tab more, so new players kne waht going on and don't get killed ASAP

Officially the UPP and USCM in the Tychon Rift sector are under ceasefire and not inherently hostile. They would have been fine being peaceful as the nature of my event was to have them escape the station. I agree I compensated late however and apologise for that.

My intent with this report to more to look at what exactly was with this event to make dchat an industrial salt mine, and to look at ways to prevent it. As combat synths seemed to be the major thing that inspired the salt, perhaps event runners should regulate them to an event where combat is discouraged, such as bodyguards for a UPP Admiral or something, rather then direct combat roles.

Staff reports are for staff abusing powers or intentional wrong doings, not because an event goes south/event was bad/event needs work. He has a thread and he's willing to take feedback. In fact with any of our events, you can always send feedback directly after the fact to the person running it.

As far as banning combat synths, as long as they have a roleplay reason, UPP combat synths or event antagonistic synths are permitted.

However the only thing I have spoken with forest and other admins about running events is if the hamper the xenos or marines, they should be compensated.
I told forest next time remember DEFCON in regards to situations like this.
