Description of the incident Forest2001 did an event. I have no problem with events, but this event seems to have no thought put into it. From my perspective, here was the event:
Prison station UPP Combat Synths are tasked with secured some corrupted larva or whatever, I dont really know. To this end, they were given spec gear, and some OP guns. The equipment I witnessed was: Thermal cloaks, NVGs, Shotguns, Tranq rounds, and a smartpack. There were about 3-4 synths, total. According to Forest they were allowed to be hostile to marines 'at will'.
Of course, my first encouter goes a little like this. Its earlygame, im escorting an IO getting intel. I notice pings on my MD and go investigate, and found the combat synths. I run away to warn the IO, only to find a second cloaked synth had run up and stunbatonned him. I PB that synth twice, then the synth I orginally found runs at me. I shoot and hit him, but he rushes towards me. I dodge his first shot, PB him. The second synth then stands up and stunbatons me, and both me and the IO are PB'd to death. Thankfully, I got the alarm out, so command knows there are UPP synths on the station, but because Command is busy playing the actual game and fighting xenomorphs, the only thing done is a few annoucements saying there are reports of UPP Combat Synths. At this point things get weird. The Synths have captured a few marines, and attempts to do RP with hostages. CIC, of course, doesn't really talk to them much, because they are busy fighting xenomorphs (We were doing pretty well at this point.) CIC faxes HC, HC sends an RMP squad with normal RMP gear, plus lethal ammo. We go shipside and find the synths, only to be fucking destroyed by numerous PB's, stunbatons, and the likes. We did manage to kill one, though, in exchange for 6ish ERT squad members. At this point, the UPP got a corrupted larva or defender spawned in for them to 'evac'. Their first evac is compromised, so they do an annoucement saying their evac shuttle is gonna self destruct. Now, Admemes call down Normandy, the CAS dropship, so that they could evac the defender with the ERT shuttles onboard the ship. The CAS pilot fucking dies to a PB, and confirms in dchat that he did not send the normandy to the LZ, and that was admeme fuckery. Anyways, they launch the Normandy without the Defender onboard, so admemes end up teleporting the defender onto the Normandy. They get to the ship, and start slaughtering the defenders. They manage to evac the defender, but leave a few synths behind, PMCs were called in at one point but couldn't stand up to the combat synths. They evac and I decide that I should make a cmplaint because holy shit, everyone was salty, including me. Also they spawned normal commands to help the synths (They needed help?) at one point. Forest also told me marines would be comp'd for any kills the synths made, but I didn't see any comping.
So: Why was this a bad event?
1) Combat synths. Theres a fucking reason the synth protocols or whatever severely frown upon combat synthing. Its because synths are fucking overpowered, and have NO restrictions on combat, unlike preds. They can tank PB's, then rush off and selfheal, then repeat. They are COMPLETELY overpowered, and really should not have been used for an event like this. Honestly I'd preferr them to be banned from events, simply because there is no gear to fight them effectively.
2) The synthetic gear. Commando armor is pretty damn good, combine that with the Thermal Cloak, shotguns, stunbatons, and smartpacks, the synths were all but unstoppable.
3) The lack of restrictions on the Combat Synths behavior meant that the Synths had a massive impact on the marine round. For instance, the IO that we killed had lots of intel that was never recovered, meaning that we never got past defcon 4. Not to mention the numerous other marines that the synths killed, depleting the already pushed-to-the-limit marine force. This was high-pop so the fighting was numerous and it was FIERCE.
4) The Admin's decision to continue on with the event rather then to end it after the first evac was lost, probably contributed the most to the marine forces loss. By calling down the CAS dropship (That was doing work, by the way. Cas PO was kicking ASS) and basicly ensuring his death, meant that the marine force was without CAS. CAS is a fundamental part of marine strategy, depriving the marine force of CAS for an event that 80% of the marine force wasn't involved it (The marines fighting on the frontlines) was a stupid fucking decision. In general, sending combat synths shipside was a stupid fucking idea. Hell, they LEFT their objective behind, but instead of having the synths just go back down for the xenomorph or evac without it, they teleported it up to the DS. They basicly HANDED the UPP synths the victory. There was no way for marines to win here. And while marines dont have to win every event, they should atleast have a chance.
5) Just...jesus christ. Can we not think things through a bit more? Giving synths, that are already powerful combat roles, second best armor then equipping them with MP gear, all access, and spec gear really should have made the admin stop and go "Is this a bit much?"
6) Making an event with vital RP elements in a game where the marine force has no CO (The people who basicly live for RP) was also a pretty dumb idea.
Anyways, maybe im just salty, but this event was pretty poorly run in my opinion.
Evidence N/A
How you would punish the accused Ban combat synths from events., and maybe insitute rules that events can only be run with a marine CO.
