BYOND truly is a fickle mistress. With one hand she giveth, and with the other she taketh away. Like moths to a crudely-developed decade old flame, we fly to her side.

If you're worried about meta-gaming, then just use the random name option.

Wait, why is this still being discussed, it was ruled as impossible to do, plus it would make reporting a player impossible as well so it's a pretty pointless thread all around.

I started through this for my dev app (on the code leak), shelved it for being way too much work, did something else for my app, and then started on this again while my so app was under review. Obfuscating names would be a nightmare. Partially because there would be thousands of lines of code that need to be refactored by hand, and partially because some of the code that handles some of the basic game functions is crazily obfuscated.

Oh boy though, did I have some good obfuscated names. "monky", "red/yellow/purple/blue tribe unga", and "noodle" were some of the highlights.

Edit: and I'm not sure it's even possible. I hadn't even looked into solutions for every place that the names are accessible...

It's technically possible but not technically feasible to do.
