The reason nobody who wants to roleplay plays a 'reasonable character' is because there aren't clear definitions for what a 'reasonable character' is, and the way it is enforced gives the impression that unless you are a dry and boring milsim man, you are an 'unreasonable character'.

Most players don't give a shit about RP they just want to shoot xenos and have fun with their friends, thats the truth of it and theirs nothing wrong with that, feweh talks about gimmicks "forcing RP" onto people but . Alot of these comments are clearly about me or players like me who do "gimmicks", so I guess i'll take the time to defend this catergory of players. The idea behind my gimmicks that I run is a simple catalyst for bringing players together to make an adventure. I've ran LOTS of different 'gimmicks' throughout my time on CM mostly as shipside roles, uno casinos, pawn shops, drug dens, maint cults, fight clubs, bars, zoo's, scalpball tournaments etc just to name a few. Do they "fit" the milsimmers idea of what CM's setting is? No not at all, but I would argue that milsim is not where the strength of RP lies on this server, nor is it even the setting. The Almayer is a retro-futuristic space ship filled with opiod addicted (you know what tramadol is right?) 1980s space marines who have no real fear of injury or death, and no real oversight as their sent in alone to the edges of space to fight on backwater colonies against aliens while a monolithic dystopian corporation not so subtly pulls the strings. What im saying is that its not at all a serious setting, and thats good because a serious milsim ruleset would only restrict the RP that actually happens and is enjoyed.

Say whatever you want about how my gimmicks "ruin the atmosphere" or "aren't fit for the server" which are all subjective points anyway, and instead look at the objective benefits they have brought to the shipside enjoyment of so many players. I take my feedback very seriously from other players as I've always intended to bring enjoyment to the round for others, not just myself, and the overwhelming feedback I get is that my wacky shenanigans and gimmicky are fun to get involved in and fun to counter act. During my time as a pawn shop broker and more recently running my cult I got told by plenty of MP players that I actually gave them something to investigate and do, instead of just being robotic minimods that have to enforce a broken window, they actually had an antagonist for their round who they needed to use wits to outplay, like during one CL cult I did the MP's recruited an undercover Private to try and find out what I was doing, set up secret observation patrols around my office and had to actually talk and RP with others to get a warrant. It lead to creativity and a crazy adventure for everyone involved, and no one was forced to partake either, no ones ever "had gimmicks forced on them" like some are saying in this thread. Thats just one example off the top of my head but I could really go on for hours here, you give players more sandbox and freedom to RP how they want, and it leads to player driven adventures and emergent gameplay which are both great things. Probably the worst part of RP in the server and one that I'm guilty of is the amount of ooc in IC, or jumping to looc (I have to police myself on this) instead of letting a situation play out, I also think if staff were less interventionist about harmless player driven events it would lead to a better server for the players that want to do that, and not effect at all the majority of players who just wanna tdm. I have nothing against players who want to be a realistic military officer, infact the juxtaposition of these types of characters against ones like myself, Juro, Carson etc lead to some fun RP in of itself, but alot of milsim players seem offended by the very presence of characters that they don't like while we just wanna have fun in our own way, theirs no reason why you can't allow for both. Not only would it lead to more enjoyable rounds for a wider range of players if RP standards weren't enforced to narrow standards, but it'd also make the life of our staff a hell of alot easier, i've said it before that the RP standards are basically up to the whims of whatever admin is on at the time and you what one player can get away with another will be banned for.

As for xeno RP, I honestly think it might just be better if xenos were declared a LRP faction or no RP faction, hell I think more people might go play xeno if they were allowed to use netspeak or say whatever they want aslong as its not obnoxiously offensive, and more xeno players I think would be a good thing because we woulden't have to power creep balance the xenos into being more and more powerful to account for the way higher number of marines. Trying to enforce xeno RP is clearly just not working anyway.

Also where the fuck is starboard

I have to agree with Just L and Dreven, I would also like to add that if you read stories about the military or just ask a veteran they will tell you that the military is full of weirdos, incompetents, morons, weasels and nut jobs, although they are usually low ranking, usually.

The tragic thing is, as the Feweh and Drevan camps argue on the semantics of RP, RP on the server as a whole just fucking dies anyway.

Just so we're on an understanding here, I don't actually have a problem with you personally and I don't think you're a bad guy.
I didn't once mention your name in this thread, but multiple people did. So it's quite clear that a handful or prominent CM players instantly think of Low-RP = Dreven.

The problem is your gimmicks, low-RP and personalized events are creating a "Broken Window" effect with other players.
ie; The broken windows theory is a criminologist theory that states that visible signs of crime, anti-social behavior, and civil disorder create an urban environment that encourages further crime and disorder, including serious crimes.

Essentially your poor gimmicks and low-rp spawns additionally more problems as players observed this and believe it's ok thus creating a lowered RP environment.

I believe you constantly masquerade your own personal fun as Roleplay and justify it because everyone involved is having fun so it should be ok.
The fact that you can proudly state that you ran a "Cult" and "Pawn Shop" is so outlandish for a military vessel with lore behind it.
It's not round complimenting, it's all events/gimmicks that focus on yourself or benefit your character solely but you justify as being ok because you rope others into it.
I don't think you understand that your constant low-rp behavior is degrading the integrity of RP on the server or maybe you do and just don't care.

I'm saying this with the utmost respect possible, but players like you on CM are currently the problem when it comes to upholding or elevating levels of RP again.
There's really no nice way of putting this, but you either need to change or staff need to crack down on you.

Lastly, I don't even think you're the type of player to be concerned about because players like you can adapt and will become good role-players with stronger enforcement.
The reason you're Low-RP and out of control is because no Mod/Admin has stepped in and corrected your poor RP, it's an enforcement issue.
My issue and gripe is with the xeno's yelling Jihad! or the CO during briefing shouting out memes and the whitelisted players not knowing the lore to their own characters.

CM doesn't need to be a Mil-Sim, you don't need to know nautical directions on a ship, you don't need to address everyone by rank and you don't need to stop combat to type out a fancy roleplay speak.

Focus on the real issue of the low RP currently which is Memers, Trolls and players who intentionally break lore ruining the environment for others.

I believe certain players can adjust to become better rp'ersw/o issue, but it will involve an effort on staffs part to enforce it, and an effort on those players parts to want to change.

    Which begs the question

Are staff the problem? TheSoldier can push through all the rule changes he wants with RP, state there needs to be higher enforcement! But it's all meaningless if the Mod team cant and won't enforce it.

If your recruitment pool has been from players coming from a lowered RP environment then they may not know what higher RP is and consider themselves non-rpers.
So how you get mods who I'm going to just assume are generally Low-RP players themselves to enforce higher standards that they haven't adhered to themselves for the last couple of years?

CM is a LRP server, its pretty clear that now since devs are pushing for a TDM direction. Gimmicks are harmless and are not "degrading the integrity of the server", what is degrading the integrity of the server is staff "wanting RP" and devs "wanting TDM" in an ideal world everyone wouldn't mind a bit of both but the tools needed are not there, the rules needed are not there.

Heck marines spout memes 24/7, myself somewhat included.

yeah cm is a lrp click until they go horizontal or change sprite server.

Windhealer is the reason that I view the staff in such a negative light when it comes to RP. I see him do stupid shit that has no basis at all in aliens or predators or avp lore and the staff allows it. I see the staff crack down on gerdy for farting on someone. I believe the staff is completely biased.
