Basic Questions & StoryWhat do you think is the job of a Commander?
The job of a Commanding Officer is to delegate orders to their men, whether that is XO or a standard grunt. They should inspire in their men a sense of fear and respect, and should be responsible leaders.

Why do you want to be a Commanding Officer?
I wish to be Commanding officer because I firmly believe that leaders should lead from the front, giving a connection between the grunts and the paper pushers.

What do you think you could contribute by being whitelisted?
I think that my time as Chief Engineer, Requisitions Officer, and Chief Medical Officer all show that I can lead effectively. I have led the USCM to victory multiple times as an acting Commanding Officer when no command staff as Chief Engineer.

How will your Commanding Officer behave? Describe their character.
A Commanding Officer should be laissez faire in their approach to leadership, only forcing their will if absolutely necessary. A Commanding Officer should be respectful and never brandish violence against his men unless their life is in danger.

Name and briefly describe your Commanding Officer's own ship.
My Command post was in battlefleet Eridani, aboard the USS Vesper, an ancient world ship transformed into a warship.

Your story (potential topics listed below)
I was born in the asteroid belts around Saturn in Sol. I was conscripted into the USCM Naval Academy on Titan, rising through their school of engineering. I was assigned to the ageing frigate Mercury VIII in the Sol sector. I was assigned an engineer and quickly rose to the position of chief engineer of the Mercury VIII. I was deployed on the Vesper when it was getting refitted as a warship. I would specialize as a reactor specialist and would be promoted to Chief Engineer after the previous one got explosively decompressed by an asteroid collision with the ship. I served on the Vesper for 5 years as the Chief Engineer before the Captain of the Vesper was reassigned to High Command as a member of the military tribunal. I ascended to the role of Captain of the USS Vesper, and have been leading for 3 years.

ExperienceHow experienced are you with the position of a Squad Leader (SL)?
I have a firm grasp of the role of Squad Leader, I understand that the purpose of a Squad leader is to both lead the men into the gates of hell and to give command a direct pipeline into the trenches. Squad Leader is important for providing the marines with CAS and Mortar fire, but should prioritize listening to Command to receive orders. I have plenty of experience as a Squad Leader in my opinion.

How experienced are you with the position of a Staff Officer (SO)?
Staff officer is a class which should give clear and direct orders to the marines, call out the dead for the medics, and call OBs. They are also important because they can act as ersatz medics if needed and can do many important tasks around the ship. I have firm experience as a Staff Officer.

How experienced are you with the position of a Department Head?
I have plenty of time as each head of staff. I understand how to play Chief Medical Officer well, having committed all of surgery, and chem to muscle memory and having a complete understanding of how to do research by myself. I have solo’d req on multiple occasions as a Requisitions officer, providing the men on the ground with all the materials, ammunition, and of course, HEFA they could ever require. I have played as Military Police many times, and have a firm grasp on the minutia of SOP. I have played likely dozens of hours of Chief Engineer, many of which were before the time locks were fixed. I understand how to fix all of the equipment.

How experienced are you with the position of the Executive Officer (XO)?
I have spent some time playing as Executive Officer, and understand all the important parts such as how to call down Orbital Bombardments and create battle plans.

How familiar are you with Marine Law and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)?
I have a thorough understanding of Marine Law and Standard Operating Procedure.

ScenariosWhen do you believe a Battlefield Execution should be used? List some examples of scenarios in which a battlefield execution would be correctly used.
Battlefield execution is only to be used if the person is a direct threat to you or someone near you, jeopardizing the whole operation, they are directly threatening your command, or if they are threatening the direct wellbeing of the ship or associated equipment.

Under what circumstances do you believe it is legal to pardon a prisoner? What are some examples of crimes you would pardon, and those you would not?
Command Officers can pardon criminals, they must list their crimes, have an understanding of said crimes, such as where they were committed, and the Commanding Officer will be held liable for the repeat offenses. Commanding Officers can only pardon Minor and Major Crimes.

What is your routine after starting the round as either a Staff Officer or Executive Officer? Assume you joined round-start and are inside your quarters.
My first thing I do as a Staff Officer or as an Executive officer is to grab a piece of paper and a map and prepare my orders for the operation. Once I finish that I normally give an announcement for time for briefing, briefing location, after that I get the Landing Zone set.

How would you handle insubordinate departments? State what you would do for each department if they were insubordinate.
Insubordination for all departments should be handled similarly, the guilty should be either NJP’d or incarceration depending on the offense and should be caused due to disobedience of a direct, lawful, and clear order. For Requisitions, I would travel down to them and give them their orders, if they violate the orders I will prescribe NJP or Incarceration depending on the severity. For Medical, I would give them a chance to recant and follow orders, otherwise I would prescribe NJP or Incarceration depending on the violations. For Engineering, I might give them a second chance, or at least a chance to correct their actions, I would also use NJP or Incarceration depending on the severity. For normal marines or noncombatants I would give them NJP unless it is a major offense.

How would you handle an understaffed CIC? What if you and the XO are the only available CIC crew?
If CIC is understaffed, I would give each squad their orders at the start and swap between the different squads, trying to answer as much as possible and respond to as many as I can. If only the XO and myself are available, I would take two squads and the XO should take two squads. They should be able to talk directly to their leaders and convey information.

What would you do if you were deployed and a marine told you they were going to desert the operation?
Desertion should be handled in one method, give one chance to return to their field of operation, or to follow a lawful and direct order, or Permanent confinement until High Command delivers a verdict on their fate.

    Few questions and concerns,

How long have you been playing CM?

Your Forum account was made just today and I have no recollection of your IC name or Ckey.

If you have another name you've used that people are more familiar with I recommend putting that up as well.

If you have joined rather recently I highly recommend playing SL to familiarize yourself with squad cohesion, map layouts, and the act of balancing stress. XO/SO for learning ML, shipside operations, managing CIC, and learning how to guide marines through consoles.

Hey, I've seen you around before, I recognize you ICly, however, this is your first forum post, and the application just isn't what is needed. Your story also needs to be a lot longer. I suggest looking at other CO whitelist applications and asking for help on the whitelist app help channel in discord.

I have been playing CM on and off since roughly 2017, I finally bit the bullet and made a Forum account after all this time because I thought it might be worth it to finally try and get a few whitelists. I have played 9.2 hours as a squad leader, and I have roughly 265 hours in CM since the since the introduction of the job time fix. I have a firm grasp of each of the maps, and I already know much of the standard plans that are used for each map.

I'll take your word for it, I'll support this application but I'd like to see you play SL and XO a bit more while this app is up.

Also it doesn't matter if your forum account was made just recently, hell I even made my forum account the day I posted my staff app. Question was more or less just to see if ya played CM before the forum account.

hello, I rewrote some of my backstory since it was a bit barren, I hope you enjoy.

I was born in the asteroid belts around Saturn, Sol, in 2135. I was born to a family of nitrogen collectors, we used atmospheric pumps to take the nitrogen in the atmosphere to create fertilizer. Normally, we would sell it to traders who sell it in turn to the space-borne farms which dot the inner belt, which provide much of the food for the Sol system. I was conscripted into the USCM Naval Academy orbiting Titan after a raid on the capital building of Saturn’s second largest biodome by the CLF. I would rise through their school of engineering, specializing in maintenance and doing my thesis for my doctorate on optimizing fuel injection for starship reactors. I was assigned to the ageing frigate Mercury VIII orbiting Rhea in the Sol sector. I was assigned as an engineer and quickly rose to the position of chief engineer due to numerous small improvements. An example of this was a patent I developed that used excess reactor heat to power heated showers, saving immense amounts of displacement due to the removal of the requirement for solar farms. Many other small upgrades and modifications of the Mercury VIII earned me a transfer. I was reassigned onto the Vesper, an old WY Colony ship which had been modified to fight for the USCM which was refitted as a warship. I would specialize as a reactor specialist, and would serve as the reactor technician for 2 years. We would lose many people I served with due to faulty equipment, rest in peace Hans McBeth. During our deployment to the moon of Neptune, Neso, I was monitoring the reactors looking for what was causing power spikes. I finally noticed what caused the power surges, a faulty heat shunt. I felt a tremor throughout the ship, an explosion had riddled the ship with shrapnel, killing all engineering staff who had been doing periodical maintenance to the external pylons. I was left as the only engineer on the ship, with massive holes leaking atmosphere, 60 million miles from the nearest USCM base. I worked for 72 hours straight patching holes in the ship. We would limp back to the USCM base in the Khyber belt and receive drydock repairs. Later analysis determined the heat vent had been accumulating ice on its surface. Ice had permeated the metal covers and mixed with the molten salt causing a massive explosion. I served on the Vesper for 5 years as the Chief Engineer after the Neso Incident before the Captain was reassigned to High Command as a member of the military tribunal. I ascended to the role of Captain of the USS Vesper, and have been leading for 3 years.

it happens to the best of us I don't expect anyone to be the next George Orwell when it comes to writing stories nor the next novelist when it comes to writing answers.
I'll change my vote to +1 because we have many kinds of CO and I don't think you'll be worse than any that still play here.

Well your story is small so I would be down with that if the other replies make up for it.

Your BE and pardon questions (the only ones I read and care about in this app tbh) are very generic and only show you almost CTRL C + CTRL V from the wiki.
