Basic Questions & StoryWhat do you think is the job of a Commander? The job of a Commanding Officer is to delegate orders to their men, whether that is XO or a standard grunt. They should inspire in their men a sense of fear and respect, and should be responsible leaders.
Why do you want to be a Commanding Officer? I wish to be Commanding officer because I firmly believe that leaders should lead from the front, giving a connection between the grunts and the paper pushers.
What do you think you could contribute by being whitelisted? I think that my time as Chief Engineer, Requisitions Officer, and Chief Medical Officer all show that I can lead effectively. I have led the USCM to victory multiple times as an acting Commanding Officer when no command staff as Chief Engineer.
How will your Commanding Officer behave? Describe their character. A Commanding Officer should be laissez faire in their approach to leadership, only forcing their will if absolutely necessary. A Commanding Officer should be respectful and never brandish violence against his men unless their life is in danger.
Name and briefly describe your Commanding Officer's own ship. My Command post was in battlefleet Eridani, aboard the USS Vesper, an ancient world ship transformed into a warship.
Your story (potential topics listed below) I was born in the asteroid belts around Saturn in Sol. I was conscripted into the USCM Naval Academy on Titan, rising through their school of engineering. I was assigned to the ageing frigate Mercury VIII in the Sol sector. I was assigned an engineer and quickly rose to the position of chief engineer of the Mercury VIII. I was deployed on the Vesper when it was getting refitted as a warship. I would specialize as a reactor specialist and would be promoted to Chief Engineer after the previous one got explosively decompressed by an asteroid collision with the ship. I served on the Vesper for 5 years as the Chief Engineer before the Captain of the Vesper was reassigned to High Command as a member of the military tribunal. I ascended to the role of Captain of the USS Vesper, and have been leading for 3 years.
ExperienceHow experienced are you with the position of a Squad Leader (SL)? I have a firm grasp of the role of Squad Leader, I understand that the purpose of a Squad leader is to both lead the men into the gates of hell and to give command a direct pipeline into the trenches. Squad Leader is important for providing the marines with CAS and Mortar fire, but should prioritize listening to Command to receive orders. I have plenty of experience as a Squad Leader in my opinion.
How experienced are you with the position of a Staff Officer (SO)? Staff officer is a class which should give clear and direct orders to the marines, call out the dead for the medics, and call OBs. They are also important because they can act as ersatz medics if needed and can do many important tasks around the ship. I have firm experience as a Staff Officer.
How experienced are you with the position of a Department Head? I have plenty of time as each head of staff. I understand how to play Chief Medical Officer well, having committed all of surgery, and chem to muscle memory and having a complete understanding of how to do research by myself. I have solo’d req on multiple occasions as a Requisitions officer, providing the men on the ground with all the materials, ammunition, and of course, HEFA they could ever require. I have played as Military Police many times, and have a firm grasp on the minutia of SOP. I have played likely dozens of hours of Chief Engineer, many of which were before the time locks were fixed. I understand how to fix all of the equipment.
How experienced are you with the position of the Executive Officer (XO)? I have spent some time playing as Executive Officer, and understand all the important parts such as how to call down Orbital Bombardments and create battle plans.
How familiar are you with Marine Law and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)? I have a thorough understanding of Marine Law and Standard Operating Procedure.
ScenariosWhen do you believe a Battlefield Execution should be used? List some examples of scenarios in which a battlefield execution would be correctly used. Battlefield execution is only to be used if the person is a direct threat to you or someone near you, jeopardizing the whole operation, they are directly threatening your command, or if they are threatening the direct wellbeing of the ship or associated equipment.
Under what circumstances do you believe it is legal to pardon a prisoner? What are some examples of crimes you would pardon, and those you would not? Command Officers can pardon criminals, they must list their crimes, have an understanding of said crimes, such as where they were committed, and the Commanding Officer will be held liable for the repeat offenses. Commanding Officers can only pardon Minor and Major Crimes.
What is your routine after starting the round as either a Staff Officer or Executive Officer? Assume you joined round-start and are inside your quarters. My first thing I do as a Staff Officer or as an Executive officer is to grab a piece of paper and a map and prepare my orders for the operation. Once I finish that I normally give an announcement for time for briefing, briefing location, after that I get the Landing Zone set.
How would you handle insubordinate departments? State what you would do for each department if they were insubordinate. Insubordination for all departments should be handled similarly, the guilty should be either NJP’d or incarceration depending on the offense and should be caused due to disobedience of a direct, lawful, and clear order. For Requisitions, I would travel down to them and give them their orders, if they violate the orders I will prescribe NJP or Incarceration depending on the severity. For Medical, I would give them a chance to recant and follow orders, otherwise I would prescribe NJP or Incarceration depending on the violations. For Engineering, I might give them a second chance, or at least a chance to correct their actions, I would also use NJP or Incarceration depending on the severity. For normal marines or noncombatants I would give them NJP unless it is a major offense.
How would you handle an understaffed CIC? What if you and the XO are the only available CIC crew? If CIC is understaffed, I would give each squad their orders at the start and swap between the different squads, trying to answer as much as possible and respond to as many as I can. If only the XO and myself are available, I would take two squads and the XO should take two squads. They should be able to talk directly to their leaders and convey information.
What would you do if you were deployed and a marine told you they were going to desert the operation? Desertion should be handled in one method, give one chance to return to their field of operation, or to follow a lawful and direct order, or Permanent confinement until High Command delivers a verdict on their fate.
