    Post ASRS Discussion

So recently, Cargonoia got a fancy new toy named ASRS (Automatic Supply Retrieval System).
    Here's what was changed:

    • Free random crates ordered by the ASRS system will come in periodically
    • Crates no longer give as much points, but you will still get them
    • Requisition's now has it's own pad (in the form of Echo pad), but it takes longer to recharge compared to Staff Officer Pads
    • You will no longer get requisition points over time (You still get points via stamping crate manifests and Sending crates in)
    • Requisitions no longer gets the free starting AP and Extended magazine boxes (you still get the grenade boxes, and single mags)

Over the course of the rounds that i've played (so far) we've gotten Free AP, Claymores, more metal and sandbags then i'd normally order, M56D Mounted SG, UAC Sentries, enough spare SG sets to make a new SG crew if we had people with skills and god knows how many grenades, all for FREE.

Honestly, this new system is really friggin strong. Like this would (probably) never happen with the old req system. But I do somewhat like this gives the cargo team something to do, that isn't bumming around the ship doing nothing until called upon.

Granted from the looks of it (by the fact the changelog has it marked under the testing symbol), it will most likely be changed sometime soon. Honestly, i'd just remove the chance for free explosives and defensive equipment and then leave it as is. How would you try and improve ASRS to be more balanced?

I think this system was added to deal with the complaints about FoBs and how the defenses can't hold for shit.

Free sentries? Free mines? Free HMGs? Seems like all these goodies are designed to encourage marines to play more defensively and give engineers more tools to utilize in the defense of the main FoB.

While I have yet to experience it (as of this post), I look forward to seeing what engineers can do with this, and what creative new constructions might be possible with all the free goodies.

Then again, for all I know, maybe it'll all just go to waste as marines put their eggs all in one basket, rather than spreading out the defenses to cover more areas. Give marines 5 sentries, and they'll put them all facing a single direction in one little room just so they can instantly kill anything that enters from the door... Only for a burrower to dig behind them and smash them all.

I don't like that the point trickle over time is gone. This essentially means that Req only has points at the beginning of each round, and that afterwards all supplies coming in will be random. Whether the random supplies are stronger or weaker than what you would have bought for points is neither here nor there: taking a system where the Req officer had resources and had to think of how best to spend them and replacing it with just collecting random shit and sending it off is a bad design decision.

Remember, The Captain can request extra funding for Cargo via DEFCON, so if they really need points quickly, there is a way to get a quick infusion.

If anything, though, I feel what this update is going to do is force cargo to be more careful than ever with their spending, only using points for URGENT purchases rather than just buying things willy nilly. No more spending 200 points on FoB supplies that don't get used, no more buying a bunch of spec ammo in advance only for all the specs to die before they get them, they need to play it SMART now with their funding.

Plus, it might make rounds more interesting now that supply drops are going to be more of a grab bag of goodies, instead of the same old shit that mostly goes unused due to neglect and results in wasted points. I'd rather free junk than expensive junk yeah?

You very clearly have not played with the new system yet. Crates and manifests produced by the new system for free can still be stamped and sent down to generate supply points. This has effectively replaced the old drip feed of pounts.

I've seen Req as SO so far, and it looked amazing.

Looks like an amazing system for me, free stuff of partial randomness, along with the ability to order specifics. Yes please.

what if they re-add the option for a specialist kit crate, where you could convert a normal PFC on a specialist, would be pretty funy

Maybe instead of just having 5 m56 and sentries at fob marines could set up like checkpoints with m56 and stuff to slow xeno push and cause more attrition in a slightly more offensive manner so when they get to fob they have had time to recover wounded and stuff like that for a better defense.

The changelog says you don't get as much points from crates, and the points you get from stamped manifests is miniscule. Are you saying that we get 100+ points alone from sending down crates and manifests, cause I honestly find that hard to believe, even if you get 10 crates to send down.
