    Would be fun to hear someone explain how and in what way those things i listed were unbalanced / broken to the point where removing or nerfing them into the ground were the only options.

    The only thing that was actually wrong with those features is them not fitting with CM's logic and aesthetic. That could've been fixed by adapting certain objects / mechanics to better fit the game, instead of outright making them unusable.

    A marine using metal cades instead of tables makes much more sense, yet a metal cade is basically a resprited table with different stats and tool interactions. Same treatment could've been applied to racks, for example.
    Other things could've been tweaked by changing the way both sides interact with them. Just take a look at r-walls in current CM.

    This could be applied to things outside of the game's focus.
    Meanwhile CMs weapon and gear system are much deeper than those of vanilla ss13 because its something players actively interact with. I believe the construction aspect of engineering is also one of the core system of the game, since most times at least half of the round is spent defending / sieging an FOB.

    General consensus among people that played combat engi always was that due to those changes engineering got oversimplified, that combat engi turned from a role that manipulates the environment into a guy that leaves his sentry at the FOB and builds nothing but cades in the same spots every round.

    Its not that those things affected the game in a bad way. Its just that the old dev team picked the worst possible solution when trying to shape the vision of the game that old headstaff had in mind. They took a role and made it boring, there is not much else to it.

    From memory I can only bring cades that weren't legacy SS13 code.

    It’s not fun because it’s linear as fuck and basically an on-rails shooter at this point. This day and age, most game devs seem to think hand-holding and railroading are more important than actually creating a dynamic, fun sandbox to play in. And with the lack of any meaningful story or character elements (otherwise known as AR-Pee), why would anyone waste their time on a 2D shooter built on a 20 year old engine? What made CM fun 5 years ago was being able to do whatever you want, but too many tards started whining that it wasn’t “fair” and constitutes “power gaming,” so they made everything as simple and straightforward as can possibly be and in the process removed what was fun about it in the first place.
