There's similar metatargeting if you're a T3, if you stay in a group it's easier to avoid I think.

Imagine your enemy targeting the person who is the most lethal, what metahead idiots pls can we fix this?
There's nothing to fix.
I mean, as a SADAR spec, you're the only thing that can ruin a good Xeno's day. Tell me, if you see a rifle and a rocket launcher, what will you be more afraid of?
Simple threat assessment, like Reuben has stated. If you think you have it bad, check out Robusto PFC, or queen, or T3. Really, they will have the entire horde of Xeno/marines pour on them the moment they show their face.
Best thing to do, is work on your own positioning. Make sure the squad is around you to cover you. Make sure you aren't opening yourself to needless risks.
On the same foot, we would need to enforce Marines focusing on T3s over T1s to keep it fair.

I would say the problematic part is that there's a reason to go full-on metatargeting in the first place. If specs weren't the only reliable way to get stuff done (except for human wave assaults), maybe they wouldn't be the immediate number one target.

Most of my time watching specs get targeted is when they are always at into the frontline, Always wanting to shoot their heavy weapons. Then they wounder why they get targeted most of the time. Specs never want to wait for openings as they just charge in. Even though when specs wait, there more likely to FF.
Clearly this all my own opinion.
I've seen this discussion a lot. Even people going so far as to say spec weapons should be immune to acid encase the spec drops it, which I think would just be pure casual hand holding but that's a digression.
At the end of the day xenos are going to target marines who are doing the most damage, because they're the biggest threat. I honestly don't see that as meta unless it's within the first 5 minutes of deployment and the spec hasn't even fired their gun yet.
As others have said, if you don't want to get targeted either don't play spec or get rid of most of the gear that identifies you as a spec.
I think the solution to this would be to give the xenos traditional thermal vision, where they see all marines as heat signatures rather than full on knowing how to discriminate certain characters. Since after all, xenos are stronger but more mindless creatures(aside from the queen). The comics and movies explicitly show how selfless they are for the hive, they're not afraid of death. Whether that becomes a xeno buff or nerf is subjective because a good coordinated attack on a squad would be more useful if the xenos are more aggressive.
However, if people WANT to be able to discriminate between valuable and less valuable marines... then it becomes the issue of whether the marines want to get caught out or not. All spec equipment is suitable to save you from getting metatargeted.
Sniper has extreme range and iff.
Scout has long range AND a cloaking device.
Demo doesn't have an escape mechanic other than its speedy armor, but it's the most powerful spec making it the most useful regardless.
Pyro and Grenadier, especially the ladder have the tools to be more frontline while being safe.
Pyro zones most xenos with green and blue flame, and with the recent armor buff, it's harder to get memed by a fireproof xeno.
Demo has the B18 armor, just that.
The last three have clear strengths and weaknesses, and the last two can deligate their weakness(lack of AP/T3 ) with attachments for the M41A(Mini flamer/grenade launcher), especially the ladder with a grenade launcher that can simply replace the grenade launcher as the main weapon with the basic attachment it starts with.
So if xenos are allowed to discriminate, then it's fine for xenos to try to get the ones with big power. HOWEVER, this shouldn't ever be the case beginning round. If a spec never uses their weapon and the xenos target them it is clearly meta. Even worse so when they say "Boomtube at X" when the RPG has never been fired.
Nothing to fix.
Melee is usually a HORRIBLE SPOT to be in as a marine.
More so as a Spec.
Avoid it.
Stay at range.
Pfcs are your cannon fodder.
I actually wouldnt call targeting rines with fuck-off-big guns meta. I mean xenos are reasonabally intelliegent and it doesnt take a genious to realise that you should prolly disable the thing thats giving you the most trouble.
