Rules

Rule 0. Rule Enforcement -

  • Staff members (+Mod) have the right to ignore/enforce rules at their discretion when they feel it is in the best interest of the current round, the server, or the player base at large. When they do so, they are held accountable for their actions and should be able to justify their reasoning to their managers upon request.

Rule 1. Rule Intention -

  • Rules are enforced as intended. Every example of a rule break cannot be defined as written, therefore, enforcement of the rules is subject to staff interpretation of the rule's intention.

Rule 2. No Erotic Role Play (ERP), erotic content, or 18+ content -

  • Roleplay intended to elicit a sexual response from anyone, including but not limited to writing stories (WGW) or posting links to adult content is not allowed. Doing so will almost always result in an instant permaban from our server. In the rare case that you don't get banned, you will likely be susceptible to Marine Law. A good rule of thumb for whether an interaction crosses this line would be to consider if the actions would be allowed in a movie directed towards teens (around age 13).
  • A few basic guidelines are as follows:
    • No character should ever engage in any form of sexual intercourse in the game, whether alone or with another player.
    • No sexual act or genitalia should ever be given explicit description. If a sexual act must be referenced, there should never be a description of how particular body parts made contact or interacted in any way, nor should any particular act be named. Distasteful but non-sexual bravado do not apply to this. A marine scratching their nuts, for example, is fine.
    • Euphemisms that also have a sexual meaning are allowed in non-sexual contexts. Common terms of phrase like "Suck my dick" are fine, as long as saying such is not a literal invitation or solicitation to do so.
    • If you are not sure whether something you wish to say or do is okay, AHelp first. We would rather you ask and be told no, than have it happen and a ban become necessary.
    • The above are guidelines for reference, and it is highly not recommended to straddle the line along what is and is not allowed when dealing with erotic/18+ content.

Rule 3. Roleplay Standards -

  • CM-SS13 is intended to be a Medium Roleplay server. Play a reasonably realistic character. Treat your character as a separate entity from you, the player. Your character's actions, feelings, and knowledge in-game should be based solely on the character's experiences and not your own as the player. Low roleplay actions that have no regard for your character or the setting (memes, silly copypaste spam IC) are not acceptable. Character development can occur over rounds but each round is a soft-reset, meaning you can have previous mission experience but your character will never have died or fled the ship in the past. Both Marines and Xeno know of the others existence, but this does not guarantee every round is Marine vs Xeno.
    • Marines: All personnel employed by the USCM are mentally stable and physically fit for duty. They would not desert their post or go against the USCM without a good reason. Marriages are forbidden, no two people employed by the USCM on the same ship may be married. The USCM has knowledge of most threats, including all human forces (UPP, CLF, PMC, etc) and general knowledge of the Xenomorph hive structure. The USCM does not know there is a Xenomorph threat on the planet of operation unless that information is given in a custom event.
    • Survivors: Survivors have more leeway than marines with their mental stability due to the trauma they may have experienced during the xenomorph attack. They may be suffering PTSD, paranoia or similar conditions for roleplaying purposes.
      • Survivors may NOT be hostile unless they have been spawned as hostile survivors (CLF).
    • Xenos: Aliens have no free will. They are a hivemind, and their purpose is to enforce the will of the Queen and expand the Hive. They are not friendly and will not negotiate. Due to the Hivemind, xenos know everything every xeno learns and know the basics of human equipment. At the start of the round, the Xeno do sense the human's ship looming above their hive and are aware that human forces will be visiting the colony shortly. Xeno hivemind is an English translation of their thoughts, so words such as “hydro” or “shuttle” are acceptable.
    • Predators: Predators are honorable hunters. They must follow the Code of Honor and act like a serious predator, not a prankster. The USCM does not hold any information about these beings, meaning each contact is unknown regarding them.
    • Synthetics: Synthetics are cold and do not feel emotions as strongly as humans, though they may fake them. They serve the USCM and may not turn against them. Synthetics must adhere to the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines.

Rule 4. Being a Dick -

  • This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Harassment, racism, bigotry, homophobia, exploiting bugs, cheating, hacking, and just plain being an asshole OOCly.
    • Giving out plot spoilers to any media with malicious intent.
      • The general discussion of a plot that contains spoilers about media released 1 year ago or longer is fine.
  • Acting in a hostile tone using profanity and minor racism within roleplay is permitted. However, staff reserves the right to make calls on situations if a player has crossed the line.

Rule 5. Griefing -

  • This is the intent of one player wanting to cause grief or annoyance to other players or the server without a valid roleplay reason.
  • Any damage to the station or players caused by griefing can be repaired at staff discretion.
  • If you are being griefed, you should try your best to not retaliate. Report it and you will likely get healed. Shooting a griefer can cause combat logs and make it harder for staff to prove who the real griefer is.

Rule 5.1 Roundstart Shenanigans -

  • Major shenanigans that may disrupt the normal flow of the round are not allowed at roundstart.
    • This includes big or lethal fights, briefing brawls, riots, and massive equipment restrictions.

Rule 5.2 End of Round Grief (EORG) -

  • This is defined as generating any friendly fire logs with friendly players after the round ends and is an immediate 3-hour ban without warning. This includes suicide!
  • Exceptions are between normal enemies, such as Marines and Aliens, Marines and UPP, as these don't create FF logs.

Rule 6. Exploiting -

  • This is defined as abusing bugs or unintended features to gain an advantage for yourself or your team.

Rule 7. Metagaming -

  • Metagaming is defined as acting upon knowledge your character could not possibly have ICly.
  • Keep In Character (IC) communication in character and Out Of Character (OOC) communication out of character.
  • Don't use (( or )) to communicate ICly. Vice versa, you should not use LOOC to share IC information to bypass IC restrictions (unconscious, etc). You may use LOOC to talk someone through something if they ask for help.
    • This includes sharing information through voice chat.
    • Should you be in a voice call with other players, you are still expected to relay information through IC channels (talking, radio, etc) to preserve in-game roleplay. IC information should not be posted to any public location where other parties can be given an advantage (discord, steam, etc). Any form of cheating via metacomms will result in a permaban. All public chat on the CM Discord should refrain from talking about any ongoing round information until the round ends.
    • You should not be sharing current round info anywhere. This includes making player/staff reports. Wait until the round is over before posting said report.
  • A few examples of this are as follows:
    • Building defenses on the ship before the hostile force en route announcement.
    • Knowing Xenos are planetside before deploying and encountering them for the first time.
    • Knowing what a predator and calling it a 'predator'.

Rule 8. Powergaming -

  • Powergaming is defined as obtaining an unfair advantage over others. This is usually repetitive and done for personal enjoyment rather than community enjoyment.
  • A few examples of this are as follows:
    • T3 Xenos sitting next to the dropship landing pad to attack right as the Marines open the doors.
    • Xenos melting every building wall in a specific location to remove a building/defensive point.
  • A few non-examples of this are as follows:
    • Xenos destroying colony assets such as APCs, lights, vendors, etc.
    • Xenos or Marines building traps to catch and kill the other side.
    • Marines killing themselves after becoming infected or captured by the Xenos.

Rule 9. English Only -

  • All communications within the server should be done in English only. Phrases from other languages are fine but should not make up the majority of your conversations.

Rule 10. Advertising -

  • Don’t post byond://, Discord, Twitch, etc, links to other servers purely for the sake of advertising.
    • Additionally, if you want to stream CM, we require you to put a five minute delay on your stream.
  • If you wish to share links to these kinds of places, either ahelp for permission or do so off the server (byond, discord, etc).

Rule 11. Ban Evading / Multi-Keying -

  • This is defined as logging in with different accounts at different times, logging in with another account because you died (or were banned), or logging into two separate accounts at the same time. If you have multiple accounts tied to CM-SS13, please ahelp regarding them. Players caught breaking this rule may receive permabans from the server.

Rule 12. Logging Off -

  • If you are a marine and need to leave the game, go to a cryo room on the ship (near prep or in medbay) and put yourself in a cryotube. This will release your job slot and allow another player to join with your job.
  • If you are unable to get to cryo, send an AHelp to staff.
  • If you are the Queen, Adminhelp to let staff know.
  • If you leave without cryo’ing yourself or informing staff, you risk a job ban, especially if your job is an important one.
    • You do not need to AHelp that you are cryoing if you can cryo yourself.
    • Ghosting as a xeno opens up your slot so another player can join, which does not require you to AHelp either.

Rule 13. Realistic Names -

  • Use a reasonable, unique, lore-friendly character name. We require all human characters to have a first and last name. Short nicknames are allowed inside the name (e.g. Derek 'Double-D' Donahue, Jane 'Crusher' Sanchez, Dan 'The Man' Thompson).
  • Ranked, titled, honorific, offensive, famous and pop-culture names are not allowed (e.g. Dr John Smith, Barack Obama, Lt John Doe, Adolf Hitler).
    • Also, avoid lore-based names like Weyland, Bishop, Ripley, etc.

Rule 14. ID Cards -

  • These should only be taken for a roleplay reason, such as from a dead XO to call for help on a computer in the ship’s bridge.
  • If you have an ID Card of someone who you find out is alive, you should make every attempt to return it to them unless you have a good reason not to. It is the responsibility of whoever initially took it to return it to them unless special circumstances arise.

Rule 15. Escalation -

  • The escalation this server follows is fist fighting to melee weapon combat to then gun combat. As long as you follow this escalation, you won't have a problem. The escalation is direct person to person unless there is an event being run that states otherwise.
    • For example, if an ally escalates fully on your friend, you may not escalate on them unless they have done so on you as well.
  • Whitelisted Commanders are allowed to instantly kill any player at any time if the player fulfills the conditions found in Marine Law. Excessive or poorly-reasoned battlefield executions (such as BEing MPs over a valid arrest) may end with the Commander being removed from the whitelist. If you believe this is the case, make a player report on them on the forums.
    • Shooting a CO in defense once you know, for a fact, they are going to BE you is allowed. This goes for illegal and legal BE execution attempts.

Rule 16. Military Police -

  • All Military Police jobs must follow Marine Law. They may ignore Minor Crimes unless ordered to enforce them, but they may not ignore Major Crimes nor commit any crimes themselves, Minor or Major.

Rule 17. Mutinies -

  • In order for a mutiny to occur, they must meet all the following requirements:
    • Requirement Period
    • First drop as already occurred and the chosen leader has deployed at least once.
    • The chosen leader must AHelp, stating the reasoning and at least 5 character names willing to join the mutiny.
    • The mutiny AHelp must be accepted by a staff member.
    • Only the CIC or Brig, as a whole (including their respective occupants), can be mutinied against for their actions, decisions, or inactions. Both sides must be given a chance to stand down peacefully.
    • Grace Period
    • The chosen leader of the CiC/Brig and the lead mutineer must meet and discuss the terms in an attempt to resolve the conflict. No fighting or destruction is allowed to occur before or during this period.
    • Once this grace period is over and neither side could come to an agreement, the leads must be allowed to safely leave the meeting area and then the mutiny may officially begin.
    • Mutiny Period
    • Before the mutiny, if you want to surrender, you must leave the department area. You may not surrender during the mutiny period. Either side may not attack uninvolved, medical, or surrendered personnel. If you are not involved before the mutiny period starts, you may not join. If you have surrendered during a mutiny, you must remain as such.
    • Due to the high risk of staging a mutiny and fighting in one, neither side is required to give mutineers medical treatment as sedition is considered one of the most capital crimes.
    • The staff member that accepted the mutiny is required to MOOC that the mutiny is over once all members of one side has been subdued or dealt with.
    • End Period
    • Once the staff member announces the mutiny is over, neither side is permitted to engage in combat anymore against the other.
    • Whichever side wins will retain ownership of the department they fought for and dictate how to run it. The leader of the winning side will be able to decide who they want to appoint to the places in the department, whether it be new people or old.
    • Medical treatment can be offered to the losing side but is not obligated.

Rule 17.5. Prison Breaks -

  • A player is perfectly allowed to engage in a prison break after first drop. Though, they must escalate properly on MPs and may not use lethal force unless they were fired upon first.
  • Additionally, they are still subject to marine law to the fullest extent as well as their accomplices. Full scale riots may be dealt with appropriately.

Weston-Yamada Divisions in Detail

  • Special Services Division: This division is focused around sales, transportation, food, employment, disabilities, and the like. This is the division you want to fax when you don't see what you need in the description of other divisions. The everything else division if you will.
    • You need to have at least one year in the company to transfer to their division.
  • Corporate Relations: This division is focused around relations between factions. For example, keeping the UPP happy with 'gifts' or tipping off the friendly CLF that there is a ship that needs to be liberated! These people are who you call for making sure the USCM don't find out about those secret basement experiments.
    • You can apply to join their division.
  • Communications Division: This division is focused around keeping communications up between all facilities and employees of W-Y. Have no service? You'll want to fax these guys- wait.. These people are who you call when a mysterious W-Y facility suddenly stops responding.
    • You can apply to join their division.
  • PMC Dispatch Division: This division is focused around efficiently dispatching PMC teams out to requests. Have someone that really annoys you? Try asking these people. These people are who you call when you need to be safely escorted somewhere or need some data secured.
    • You need to have at least three years in the company to transfer to their division.
    • You need to have someone within the division as a reference.
  • Data and Research DIvision: This division is focused around W-Y data and research. Specifically escaped specimen or unnatural chemicals! Very sciency. These people are who you call when you find out something that could be profitable for W-Y through experiments or chemicals.
    • You can apply to join their division.
  • Economics Division: This division is focused around trading between factions. Economics, goods, and all that. Have someone offer to give you illegal black market goods for unmarked bills? You probably call up these guys.
    • You need to have at least two years in the company to transfer to their division.
  • Psi Division: This division is..? What is this division? No one really seems to know. They are just there. No one knows about their ranks or how to join. Or what they do. Don't talk about them. It is safer.
