The frontiers of space can be a dangerous place: pirates, raiders and rebels frequently attack colonies and lone ships wandering in space. The military sometimes can't reach those places (or sometimes, those people want to be VERY far away from the military), for solving those problems, many mercenary groups have formed to defend those people... or at least fight for the ones that need a gun for hire. Those groups come in various shapes and forms.


When the marines get outgunned by the aliens or any other potential threat, the commander can send a distress call to anybody in the nearby space vicinity, if heard by a nearby ship a Response Team will be signaled as hearing the signal for help, from this a Response Team will dock with the Sulaco.RNG dictates which of the six Response Teams will be chosen for deployment, however these Response Teams can also be chosen by an admin to either help get the round moving or to deal with an Ic event (Such as the Corporate Liaison requesting help).To join a Response Team you need to set your "Toggle Special Role Candiacy" for Response Team to enabled and then when a Response Team message pops up go to the IC tab and click on "Join Response Team" If enough ghosts/observers do this the Response Team will be full, which means it will be a successful response to the situation at hand on the Sulaco, if not enough ghosts/observers join the Response Team, it will state in game that "There was no response to the signal" this means that no Response Team will be sent.Keep in mind that not always the mercs are here to help, since the admins can set up objectives to the mercs that contradict the marine's mission and just plain ignore them.

Freelancer mercenaries
Various small bands of guns-for-hire roam around the space. These are usually small groups which work in small time jobs such as protecting ships, patrolling for pirates or defending independent colonies. They come armed with the standard military equipment.

Weyland-Yutani PMCs
The biggest on it's sector, the Weyland-Yutani military consultants is a subsidiary of the bigger corporation. They were originally a indepedent PMC on Earth, which was bought by WY and started to provide security to the outer rims of space, which was a growing sector at the time. Now, the PMC provides services of all kinds to governments and companies, they also provide security to Weyland-Yutani facilities, space stations and colonies.

The Iron Bears
The Iron bears is one the most feared merc units. Formed by ex-members of the soviet spec-ops group orbita desantnika shturmovaya gruppa. They are known the be extremely ruthless and aggressive, having been accused kidnappings, assassinations ,mass murders and making part of false flag operations. There's a joke that the only problem with sending the Bears to educate a town is that afterward, there's no more town.

Dutch's dozen
Halling from the jungle planet of Watchman, the Dutch's dozen are a small, yet powerful group of mercenaries specialized in jungle warfare. It's members are trained to fight and depend of less technology as possible, learning special survival techniques and guerrilla warfare. They use the outdated MAR-40, however, they are extremely well trained on it, better than any marine with a M41A.

It's a common rumour that the members of this unit once fought and killed a mysterious invisible creature not before having part of it's squad destroyed.

Deathsquad

The deathsquad is a special event, they can be only activated by admins. When active, they will all spawn from ghosts and will have one mission: kill everybody aboard the sulaco, Alien or Marine. For this, they will have a special equipment to kill and protect from damage more efficiently.

Weyland-Yutani Commandos
A top-secret, black-ops group formed by Weyland-Yutani to deal with any kind of business with the xenomorphs, like capturing or containing infections. They are extremely professional and loyal only to the corporation's high command, working independently from the PMC.

They posses the most deadly equipment available, using the prototype X-13 "Ape suit", a special armor tailored to stop the effects from the xenomorph's acid blood, protect the wearer's head from facehuggers and a thick kevlar cover to protect from bullets. They should not be messed with
