Union of Progressive Peoples

The Union of Progressive Peoples (UPP) are the rivals of the United Americas in many aspects. They're highly trained socialist soldiers, ready to fight for the UPP. And their goal is to eliminate anyone who are against the UPP.

A wide-reaching and powerful socialist authoritarian state, the UPP acts as the political and ideological rival of the United States and the UA. Though they have a relatively large presence on Earth (particularly in the Eastern sphere), the UPP is also largely active in colonizing the frontier. While the United Americas have never engaged the UPP in an official war, hostilities broke out between a USCM Task Force and a UPP Expeditionary Force during the Tientsin Campaign in mid 2165. Though the engagement ended in a ceasefire, over fears that the conflict would spread to the more densely populated Sol System, the incident greatly enraged many senior officials in the UPP, who viewed the battle of Tientsin as an attempt by the United States to annex UPP sovereign territory. “Such an insult (referring to Tientsin) can only be repaid in American blood. Mark my words, this will happen”, Colonel Ganbaatar of the UPP Armed Forces was quoted as saying in May 2168.

Divisions within the ranks

Do not expect to climb these ranks without a serious dedication to the cause.

Role	Description
UPP Standard	Enlisted or conscripted into the armed forces, these Standard UPP soldiers are the core and brunt of the UPP forces, armed and equipped with a standard Type 71 Pulse Rifle and their UM 5 Personal armor, these fanatical soldiers are a force to be reckoned with.
UPP Specialist	UPP Specialists are better trained and armed than their standard counterpart. Equipped with special heavy UPP armor that is capable of withstanding a significant amount of damage, and equipped with the formidable GSh-7.62 rotary machine gun, UPP Specialists are not to be taken lightly by even the most robust of marines.
UPP Medic	These trained men and women have access to an array of standard issued UPP medical items akin to their USCM counterparts. While combat is not their focus, they are armed with their old but reliable Type 71 Carbine as a quick response to any threat.
UPP Leader	The commander of the UPP force, the UPP Leader is charged with executing whatever mission the UPP have assigned the squad. They are equipped with mostly standard issue UPP equipment, though the Leader wears similar armor to the UPP Specialist.

Weston-Yamada Divisions in Detail

Special Services Division: This division is focused around sales, transportation, food, employment, disabilities, and the like. This is the division you want to fax when you don't see what you need in the description of other divisions. The everything else division if you will.
- You need to have at least one year in the company to transfer to their division.
Corporate Relations: This division is focused around relations between factions. For example, keeping the UPP happy with 'gifts' or tipping off the friendly CLF that there is a ship that needs to be liberated! These people are who you call for making sure the USCM don't find out about those secret basement experiments.
- You can apply to join their division.
Communications Division: This division is focused around keeping communications up between all facilities and employees of W-Y. Have no service? You'll want to fax these guys- wait.. These people are who you call when a mysterious W-Y facility suddenly stops responding.
- You can apply to join their division.
PMC Dispatch Division: This division is focused around efficiently dispatching PMC teams out to requests. Have someone that really annoys you? Try asking these people. These people are who you call when you need to be safely escorted somewhere or need some data secured.
- You need to have at least three years in the company to transfer to their division.
- You need to have someone within the division as a reference.
Data and Research DIvision: This division is focused around W-Y data and research. Specifically escaped specimen or unnatural chemicals! Very sciency. These people are who you call when you find out something that could be profitable for W-Y through experiments or chemicals.
- You can apply to join their division.
Economics Division: This division is focused around trading between factions. Economics, goods, and all that. Have someone offer to give you illegal black market goods for unmarked bills? You probably call up these guys.
- You need to have at least two years in the company to transfer to their division.
Psi Division: This division is..? What is this division? No one really seems to know. They are just there. No one knows about their ranks or how to join. Or what they do. Don't talk about them. It is safer.

History

The Union of Progressive Peoples (U.P.P.) is a powerful socialist nation that acts as a rival of United Americas (U.A.) in the eastern sphere. However, as years go by, so does the spark of rivalry between the U.A. and U.P.P. as well, with mounting tensions between the two becoming more and more prevalent. Though the U.P.P. has never engaged in wars against the U.A. or USCM, hostilities broke out between a USCM Task Force and a U.P.P. Expeditionary Force during the Tientsin Campaign in mid 2165. It later ended in ceasefire. However, many enraged officials and commanders view this firefight as an attempt for the USCM to take control of UPP territory. 3 years after the Tientsin Campaign there is still an unstable relationship between the U.P.P and the U.A.

In 2186, for the past 14 months the 17th battalion known as the Smoldering Sons (six hundred able-bodied soldiers, strong) have been stationed at a gas giant designated MV-35 in the Anglo-Japanese Arm of the Tychon's Rift sector under the command of Colonel Ganbaatar.
MV-35's only facility, the helium refinery, Altai Station has been the only UPP-held territory in the Tychon's Rift sector for many light years, the soldiers deployed to MV-35 have spent most of their military career holed up in crammed quarters in near darkness, waiting for supply shipments and transport escort deployments.

Heat absorbent coif	A close-fitting cap that covers the top, back, and sides of the head. Can also be adjusted to cover the lower part of the face so it keeps the user warm in harsh conditions. Can not actually adjust the mask. Part of the marine uniform on snow planets. Without one of these or a Rebreather keeping their face warm the bitter cold will slowly freeze them to death. It's a good idea to bring down a few spares in a backpack for those that might've forgot theirs. Spawns at the Automated Closet as Standard Equipment if the map is Ice Colony, Sorokyne Strata, or Corsat. Otherwise available at the Surplus Uniform Vendor.
Combat Boots	Standard issue combat boots used by the USCM for combat situations. Worn by USCM Marines
SWAT Mask	A close-fitting tactical mask that can be connected to an air supply. Can be ordered by Cargo
M8 pattern armored balaclava	An armored balaclava designed to conceal both the identity of the operator and act as an air-filter. Worn by Corporate PMCs
M8 pattern armored balaclava	An armored balaclava designed to conceal both the identity of the operator and act as an air-filter. This particular suit looks like it belongs to a high-ranking officer. Worn by Corporate PMCs
