As the Hive expands, it is more and more likely to be discovered by your enemies. Thus, a good sentinel will need to be vigilant for incoming threats, and communicate with the hivemind when they arise.

In order to fulfil its role as a defensive xenomorph, the Sentinel caste is given a unique ability. You are capable of spitting paralysing neurotoxin to take down your foes from a distance, and though it is only a short stun, it often provides those valuable few seconds for an allied alien to attach a facehugger.

* '''Neurotoxin''': A weak ranged stun, if this attack successfully collides with a Human, and it is not blocked via a Riot Shield, it'll stun the target for a few brief seconds. The stun is not as long as a melee attack but it can be sufficient to chase down the target, or at least force them to lose their weapon.

* '''Weak Corrosive Acid''': This ability can burn away makeshift barricades, such as normal walls, girders or similar. It can also be used to melt certain Human items. It is slow however, leaves a very obvious sprite on the target as its melting and also cannot melt certain defences like reinforced walls or reinforced barricades.
====Sentinel Tactics====
* Sentinels can use their spit to incapacitate hosts that break free from their nests. The stun is more than long enough to secure the host.
* The Neurotoxin spit stuns long enough for you to run up to a host and slap two aliens onto their face. However, this is only effective if you can isolate a Marine. If spotted, it is always best to retreat.
* When you spot a threat on the borders of (or even within) the Hive, do not engage them immediately! Warn your sisters of the threat, and '''give their exact location''', to ensure you get backup.

Playing a Sentinel

The Sentinel has a moderate slash damage, moderate speed, fast Plasma regeneration and a moderate Plasma cap. The Sentinel has the ability to Spit-Neurotoxin, which stuns any non-Alien creature hit by it. The Sentinel also has the Corrosive-Acid ability, to melt most objects and structures.

Unless ordered to leave by the Queen, you should remain inside or around the Hive at all times. If there are live hosts nested, you should remain close by to stop them from escaping.

Sentinel Evolution

After consuming some Royal Jelly (created by the Queen) and allowing it to become absorbed by their body, Sentinels can evolve into a more powerful, tougher version of themselves.

The Spitter is the next progression of the Sentinel caste. The Spitter is slightly slower, but gains a more powerful spit attack, as well as an Area of Effect spit, and a stronger corrosive acid.

Sentinel Tactics

  • Sentinels can use their spit to incapacitate hosts that break free from their nests. The stun is more than long enough to secure the host.
  • The Neurotoxin spit stuns long enough for you to run up to a host and slap two aliens onto their face. However, this is only effective if you can isolate a Marine. If spotted, it is always best to retreat.
  • When you spot a threat on the borders of (or even within) the Hive, do not engage them immediately! Warn your sisters of the threat, and give their exact location, to ensure you get backup.
