Succession/Chain of Command

This is the list of the order in which command passes due to Death, SSD, Imprisonment, or anything else that makes someone unfit to command. Note: You do not assume their title or rank, only their responsibilities.

3. Staff Officer (If there is more then one, the outgoing acting Commander will pick one or they will discuss among themselves who takes charge)
4. Chief Engineer
5. Pilot Officer
6. Requisitions Officer
7. Tank Crewman
8. Chief MP
9. Military Police (If there is more then one, the outgoing acting Commander will pick one or they will discuss among themselves who takes charge)
10. Squad Leader (Starting at Alpha goes through the squads)
11. Cargo/Maint Tech (If there is more then one, the outgoing acting Commander will pick one or they will discuss among themselves who takes charge)

Superiors in the USCM

While rank is to be respected at all times, during normal operations, command is determined by position. If someone is given conflicting orders, they must give priority to those of their department’s superiors. The following section determines whose orders crew members are bound to follow. Note: The acting Commander of the is the ultimate authority unless overseen by higher ranking officials of High Command. All personnel are subject to his authority and his orders override those of all others, except in the case of Military Police and ONLY when enforcing Marine Law.

Enlisted: Enlisted men must obey any lawful order given to them by commissioned officers, with priority given to those of their department. Additionally, enlisted combat marines must obey the orders of enlisted personnel with higher rank than theirs.

Officers: Support Officers have authority over their own department but must obey the orders of Command Officers (SO, XO, CO). Command Officers must follow the orders of higher ranked Superior Officers.

Civilians: Civilians are under the direct authority of the acting Commander. They must obey his orders, but are not required to obey the orders of any other military personnel unless the acting Commander places them in a department, in which case the department superior’s orders come second. Additionally, civilians employed in the Medical and Research departments must also obey the orders of the Chief Medical Officer.

Warrant Officers

Warrant Officers are separate from both the officer and enlisted ranks within the USCM. Their commissions is issued through "Warrant" within their specific field as recognition of their expertise, as opposed to a standard officer’s commission. Generally, they are considered to outrank all enlisted personnel, and are afforded the same respect and deference as a Lieutenant Commander. They outrank everyone in matters related to their specialty (in the case of the Chief MP, Marine Law) but must still follow the orders of their superiors in all other matters.
